Thiese 4 minutes here are the music video for the song "S&M" by Rihanna, the must successful American (music) import from Barbados in a long time. She was already a big star back in 2011 despite being only in her early 20s. Last year she turned 30, the same age her director here was: Melina Matsoukas, a prolific music video film maker. Now with this song and video, Rihanna mocks the press who keep calling her the sl-word that rhymes with cut (not sure I am allowed to use it in my review, so better safe than sorry) for her occasionally pretty explicit scenes and (lack of) clothes in other music video. So they get the full load here with this one depicting many situations closely related to Sadomaso, be it Rihanna walking around with a human dog or the press watching her on stage being stuc against the wall while they have SM toys that shut them up, well that shut their talking up, not their writing though as we see. In my opinion, this is neither a particularly sensual (as some call it) nor intelligent video, but hey it comes from Rihanna and if you know her Twitter history (she was Trump before Trump basically, without the intellect), then you won't be surprised at all. Rihanna has always profited a whole lot from the recognition value in her voice, more than from great range and this is true here too. The song is pretty catchy I can't deny it, especially the chorus overall. This makes at least partially up for the weak and over-the-top (not in the good way it wants to be) music video we got here. Luckily it wasn't even five minutes long. Listen to the record, skip the video. As this is the iMdb, I give the outcome here a thumbs-down.
