While Forbes noted in May 2017 that a sequel would never happen due of the underwhelming performance of the film in most markets, Later that same month, it was reported that the sequels could still be made thanks to record breaking merchandise sales, But in 2018 Hasbro Brands purchased the rights to the Power Rangers brand effectively killing the sequel that would have been made from the Power Rangers 2017 film. Instead they chose to reboot the film entirely, making this a new franchise. Once again Forbes commented in October of 2020 on the failure that it would be, even though director Jonathan Entwistle and the writers were the only ones announced on the project.
According to some sources claiming this project of Power Rangers will be appealing towards young adults as they will also keep on going with the children's series at the same time. While there will be an more-matured tone in both of the young adult's series and children's series of Power Rangers.
In 2018, Hasbro bought the Power Rangers brand from Saban.
According to some sources there were rumors that the Power Rangers young adult series will start production as soon as possible after Power Rangers Cosmic Fury is released on Netflix on Fall 2023. The Young Adults reboot series of Power Rangers is in development process with Hasbro, Toei, and Entertainment One.
This project was originally pitched with Hasbro in partnership with Paramount Pictures. It was later moved from Paramount to E-One, which Hasbro purchased in late 2019 early 2020.
Jonathan Entwistle was originally hired for the film when it was at Paramount. When the movie moved to E-One, he moved with it and his role in the franchise increased. Now spearheading several forms of media that will all interconnect with the films.
