In his review of the new horror film Immaculate (you can read it Here), JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray said the movie – which reunites Sydney Sweeney with Michael Mohan, who directed her in the erotic thriller The Voyeurs and the Netflix series Everything Sucks! – is “a decent throwback to Dario Argento-style Italian horror movies.” During a recent post-screening Q&a at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Boston Seaport, Mohan also revealed that one particular scene in the movie was inspired by the work one of my favorite grindhouse era filmmakers, Jack Hill – and that same scene also had to be salvaged with the help of Saw X director Kevin Greutert!
Our friends at Bloody Disgusting shared the information from the Q&A, reporting that Mohan said, “The biggest scene that did not work and I’m still not happy with is the scene when Isabelle tries to drown Cecilia. I studied a...

Sydney Sweeney is one of the rising stars in Hollywood. Although she began acting at an early age with guest roles in TV shows like Pretty Little Liars and Grey’s Anatomy, she did not gain recognition until she starred in the 2018 comedy-drama TV series Everything Sucks! Fast forward to 2019, she had the world’s attention with her breakout role as Cassie Howard in the HBO series Euphoria.

Needless to say, Euphoria, the fourth most-watched show in the history of HBO, exposed the artists to greater opportunities in the industry. Sweeney is one of the breakout talents from this show. In every generation, there is a scream queen–an actress known for starring in horror films who comes to embody the genre landscape of her time. From Janet Leigh and her daughter Jamie Lee Curtis, Sarah Michelle Gellar to Maika Monroe, these women often originate a beloved character or star in a variety of cutting edge films, pushing the boundaries as cinema evolves.
The jury’s still out on which Gen Z actress will ascend to the scream queen throne, but Sydney Sweeney is making a strong case for her legacy. Though not exclusively known for horror, this versatile actress specializes in creating fearsome characters that break the mold set by her predecessors. With her wide eyes and angelic smile, Sweeney has a knack for luring us in with the perception of innocence only to shock us with a cutting remark or withering glare.

Sydney Sweeney’s had a huge 2024 so far — and her most startling act of the year is still ahead.
In the early weeks of the year, her Sony Pictures romantic comedy with Glen Powell, “Anyone But You,” showed remarkable staying power at the box office, eventually building from a tepid early result amid holiday competition to over $200 million at the global box office on the strength of word-of-mouth. Sweeney’s Fifty-Fifty Films shingle produced the film, as well as the upcoming “Immaculate,” which is to be released by Neon on March 22.
In “Immaculate,” Sweeney plays Cecilia, an American nun who arrives at an Italian convent, hoping to find safety and solace. The seeming miracle of her shortly thereafter becoming pregnant — a 21st-century answer to the Virgin Mary — quickly turns sinister, as Cecilia’s body and her faith both rapidly turn against her.

From eighth billing to bankable leading lady, Immaculate director Michael Mohan has played a key role in Sydney Sweeney’s rise to superstar status.
In 2017, Mohan helped cast Sweeney in the ‘90s coming-of-age series, Everything Sucks!, and while she was only billed eighth in the closing credits, her character played an integral part in the show’s central coming-out story. Mohan was certainly impressed by the Washington native’s acting ability, but it was her extracurricular efforts that indicated she was bound for great things, as she spent her downtime learning the ins and outs of production. Unfortunately, in April 2018, despite a passionate fanbase, Everything Sucks! became one of Netflix’s first of many more heartbreaking cancellations. However, within a matter of months, it opened the door for Sweeney to join the cast of HBO’s eventual hit, Euphoria.

Last month, the Motion Picture Association ratings board announced that they had given the psychological horror film Immaculate, which reunites Sydney Sweeney with Michael Mohan, who directed her in the erotic thriller The Voyeurs and the Netflix series Everything Sucks!, an R rating for strong and bloody violent content, grisly images, nudity and some language. Now, in an interview with Variety, Mohan has promised that the film gets extreme, just like that rating explanation indicated.

Fresh off her recent stint hosting “Saturday Night Live,” Sydney Sweeney made her way to Austin and SXSW for the world premiere of her new religious horror film “Immaculate” — and on Tuesday night, she had the crowd screaming (and laughing at their own reactions) at the Paramount Theatre.
The jump scares, in particular, had the entire theater jumping — and then giggling at their own fear. “Immaculate” leans into horror but also has plenty of moments of dark humor.
“I think that you really truly care about the characters and story,” Sweeney said during the on-stage conversation after the screening. “Yes, we wanted you guys all to jump in your seats and be hopefully horrified shitless. But you still care about the story.”
Neon is behind “Immaculate,” while Sweeney also produced the movie with Black Bear and Middle Child Pictures. The film is set to be released on March 22.

“Immaculate” is the third project that director Michael Mohan and Sweeney have collaborated on, after the 2018 series “Everything Sucks!” and the 2021 thriller “The Voyeurs.” Their newest creative vision is a project filled with twists, blood and a surprising amount of horniness for a movie set at an Italian convent. Sweeney plays Cecilia, an American nun who transfers to Italy and is forced to face a lot of dark secrets hidden in the walls of the gorgeous nunnery. Sydney Sweeney is the woman of the moment. Headlines do not seem to be getting enough of her just like her fans, whose over-enthusiasm is not the actress’ favorite thing at times. While Sweeney is best known for her character in Euphoria, she has recently taken the internet by storm with her movies Anyone but You and Madame Web. The latter of these is not the best project on her resume, but it definitely attracted a significant amount of attention.
Sydney Sweeney recently proved that she is not only a bold actress but also has a good sense of humor. She does not mind poking fun at herself or her recent appearance in Madame Web. She also put her Saturday Night Live monologue to good use by addressing some of the wild rumors about her on the internet.

The Internet demands to know: did Sydney Sweeney fabricate parts of her inspiring backstory?
Let’s rewind. In November, the 26-year-old actress and budding producer graced the cover of Women’s Health to promote a starring role opposite Glen Powell in the romantic comedy Anyone But You. Writer Lindsay Geller recapped Sweeney’s humble beginnings as a teenager who made extra cash by babysitting, cleaning restaurant bathrooms and leading tours at Universal Studios to help her family pay the bills while she was trying to make it in Hollywood. “I watched my parents lose a lot. We filed for bankruptcy, and they lost their house back home on the lake,” she said. “We couldn’t afford life in L.A.”

"Euphoria" and "The White Lotus" star Sydney Sweeney has been having a pretty stellar moment. While the actor has been performing since childhood, her star has been shooting across the sky in the last few years. Just last year, she starred in the thrilling drama "Reality" for HBO and the box office smash hit "Anyone But You," and is kicking off her 2024 by entering Sony's Spider-Man Universe with "Madame Web." But becoming Spider-Woman isn't the only exciting venture on Sweeney's horizon. She's also reteaming with director Michael Mohan once again, this time for the horror film "Immaculate."
With a script by Andrew Lobel, "Immaculate" is a psychological horror film wherein Sweeney plays Cecilia, a nun who is given the opportunity to join an illustrious convent in Italy. Her new home seems absolutely perfect until strange things begin happening around the convent, including what appears to be an immaculate conception.

Sydney Sweeney is starring as a twisted Virgin Mary in horror film “Immaculate.”
The “Euphoria” actress leads the Michael Mohan-directed feature, re-teaming with her “The Voyeurs” director. The official synopsis reads: “Cecilia (Sweeney), an American nun of devout faith, embarks on a new journey in a remote convent in the picturesque Italian countryside. Her warm welcome quickly devolves into a nightmare as it becomes clear her new home harbors a sinister secret and unspeakable horrors.”
The trailer shows Cecilia realizing she is pregnant despite her nunhood while fearing the sinsiter potential of the baby growing inside her.
Andrew Lobel penned the script for the Neon film, while Sweeney produces with Jonathan Davino under her Fifty-Fifty Films production banner.
“Immaculate” marks many reunions with Sweeney’s past collaborators: Sweeney and director Mohan first worked together on the Netflix high school comedy series “Everything Sucks!,” while producer David Bernad was behind “The White Lotus.

Euphoria Star Sydney Sweeney’s Net Worth Takes An Unimaginable Jump ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney has witnessed a stardom that is rarely bestowed upon artists. Thanks to her characters Cassie Howard in Euphoria and later Olivia Mossbacher in The White Lotus, her position as a fan’s favorite was cemented. Interestingly, the two shows made quite a difference to her net worth in two years.
Sydney began her career as a guest star in TV shows like 90210, Criminal Minds, Grey’s Anatomy, and Pretty Little Liars. Her first big break was with Netflix’s drama Everything Sucks! where she played Emaline Addario.
Talking about films, the 26-year-old star starred in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. However, all her name and fame came along with Euphoria – a teen drama series also starring Zendaya. Before starring in Euphoria, her net worth was somewhere between $3 million and $3.5 million.
