"Bonbone" has a broad thematic spectrum
info-7574226 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The short movie "Bonbone" has a broad thematic spectrum. It deals with dreams and wishes of a couple becoming a free family and how they use mental creativity to follow their dreams even in the most dangerous situations. Also a part of the short movie is the confilct of Israel and Palestine, as well as the meaning of a wall and what it does to the people. The artwork inspires to think about political walls, but in the same time it tells a story about humanity and pure emotions. It portrais in a short film individual dreams, restricted freedom of human being and global borders.

Original and entertaining
garysze27 January 2019
I am not sure if this could really happen, both the science of it and the way these prison visits are supposed to be really conducted, but it is a smart tale to bring our attention to the Palestinian issue, which is being overshadowed by the many other political issues from that region. A clever and entertaining use of cinematic art to highlight one of our most pressing political problems. Highly recommended.

powerful

Warning: Spoilers
A powerful film. Impeccable crafted, impressive message, precise portrait of a world, manifesto. A man. His wife. The grill of prison and the bus to home. And the expected child . Difficult to define because it is like a kick in stomach. It gives, at the first sigh, an absurd story. It seems, in its first half, a poetic short film about life in prison. It becomes a short romance and eulogy to freedom from past. And , in the last minutes, it becomes one of the most touching hommage of life. The last words defines it as a real possible case. Short- a film who must see. Again. For understand and feel. The roots of near reality and the force of hope.

A truly original take on the absurdities of living under oppression
info-4043612 September 2018
Bonbone delivers a hysterically poignant message. The portrayal of the protagonists as two adults who simply wish to start a family together contrasts starkly with traditional narratives revolving around conception. Rather than being at the mercy of their bodies and their reproductive systems to make a baby like most couples, the two are instead held captive by the militarised system of injustice which incarcerates and separates.

Bonbone is by far one of the best short films I have watched. A beautifully shot tribute to Palestinian resistance and an important account of the situation in Palestine.

A surprising story, full of feelings, that brings us closer to the reality and resistance in Palestine. A short film full of human messages and a brilliant direction of Rakan Mayasi. It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to program the film in Censurados Film Festival.

I really got caught by the story which I found original, entertaining and informative - I did not know such thing was happening. Cherry on the top, the film is served by a catchy music, perfectly suiting the tone of the film. Worth to watch and to ear!

A deep and touching story of distance

It's unusual, but really fundamental, to see Palestinian stories represented on the screen. Bonboné does it with great direction and cinematography.

A thrilling bus ride.
daniel-361-6302974 March 2019
While I was watching Bonbone for the first time, I did it with disbelief, considering this love story between a Palestinian couple in which the man is being held in an Israeli prison exaggerated and somewhat elaborated. But the text that at the end of the trip tells us that everything we saw is inspired by real events was a slap in my cynical face and made grow this story built by Rakan Mayasi in which he turns a bus trip into a race against time and where the suspense gets goosebumps.

An amazing short film!
ramaratarr16 January 2019
Bonboné is an amazing short film. The film highlights a difficult and taboo problem of Palestinian society in a touching and humorous way. In a zone of political war, art is an important tool to denounce the injustice and the producer of this film knew how to make a perfect use of it with actors to whom we get attached quickly. Definitely recommend!

It's not easy to make a film worth repeated viewings
tarhad01-261-49750512 October 2022
Well done short includes; writing, directing, and performance.. It's been awhile since I have seen a powerful idea about Palestine.

The prison scene in particular, where the camera never leaves actors faces, shows how much they can convey with nothing but their voice flashing love.

The Scene where the actress uses the bonbone shows how smart the camera placment ended with the empty bonbone throw on the ground.

It's rare movie that succeeds on almost every level, where each character, scene, costume, shot and directing..

It's really not easy to make a a film worth repeated viewings, but you guys DID it.
