Funny is Funny

The show is funny. I hated the last year when in its original run. In fact I stopped watching after 4 episodes. That was the year they won the lottery.

Luckily the show is back and has a talented writing staff that knows how to show a family struggling with life but "Holding on together".

Now I might not like "Roseanne" personal beliefs but I can put that aside and watch a well made show that makes me laugh.

Welcome back Roseanne.

A faithful Reboot!

I'll admit, I haven't seen everybody episode of the original. However, from what I have seen, this show appears to pick right back up. Roseanne's classic quick wit is as same as ever. The show is loyal to the original, while main ting a modern twist by focusing on today's hot topics. Though, we haven't known the new characters for long, they seem to be like able enough. So if you're in the mood for a good life, you definitely want to watch this!

All are back and in top form!

Good writing and fine familiar refined acting by our regular cast. I'm so glad everyone could be on good terms with each other and bounce jokes and lines off each other as well, if not better then you did long ago. Not many people work that close for so long and then be apart and still come back like no time past at all. You guys make me feel good about life in general Your show is smart and engaging and I welcome it back in the midst of the many heart and soul lacking television as of late. If I had to complain about something it would be the too loud canned laughs. Unless maybe it's live, I should have checked. If it's live then sorry no problems at all

Still the best out there!

It has been 21 years and I was a bit worried if the show still had the same thrill as back then. I wasn't disappointed! Chemistry is working, jokes are on point and the whole episode was funny but also serious. I have always loved Roseanne because this type of humour is funny but not offensive.

Amazing.

So exciting to see this show back, and in order with the best seasons of the original series. This doesn't feel like a reboot, but a continuation. I love the nuance and shades of grey that are natural to real life. There is no simple answer to some problems. Realistic, awesome, fantastic.

Takes me back and shows they still got it

Like they never missed a beat. The use of innuendos if politics was great and the life lessons withthe jokes are classic Roseanne.

Twenty Years to Life

Warning: Spoilers
There was a lot of ways this reboot could have gone wrong, but for the most part, a lot of it went right. They were quick to dive right into the heart of the show, and that is family and poverty.

They had an edgy tone, openly discussing President Trump, which surely impacted some people, but I think TV was overdue for something that at least partially presented "the other side".

Funny to an extent, and about as good as a multi-cam can be in 20118.

There are much better shows out there, but just as a 90's sitcom fan the returnw as more than welcome.

Unstable and lacking charm
thekiddouglass28 March 2018
Writing is the weakest I've seen. Whereas Roseanne, in the past, blossomed with being funny yet still grounded in realism, this feels like any sitcom you flip through today. It's a combination between Big Bang misogynistic humor and Broke Girls attempt at showing the 'liberal' point of view. Roseanne as always had complete control over the writing -- you definitely can see it show through with this first episode. Her staunch need to display the opposite side as submissive and over the top while conservatives are the opposite (minus the occasional rip on conservatives.) Let's not forget the drastic change in Dan and how much he mocks the grandson. You can just feel John Goodman's uncomfortableness as he reads the dialogue that are so blantatly transphobic and misunderstanding of culture today. Back in the 80's and 90's Roseanne was ahead of the time -- now she is more behind the times than ever. Laurie Metcalf and Sara Gilbert are the only two actresses that keep the shows old energy alive that even give this show the 4/10 stars I managed to give. As a devote fan of the previous show it is sad to see the writing drop and a show that previously celebrated alternative lifestyles now trashing on them.

It gets better as it goes along.
futuretype28 March 2018
Not having had television when the original series aired I cannot comment on how it measures up but the first episode, from twenty years later, seemed forced and performances stilted. Maybe the actors need time to get into gear or maybe it is the writers that need time to write better material. The delivery wasn't funny but bordered on being amusing. Articles previewing the showed promise but it didn't come through in "Twenty Years io Life". Maybe future episodes will be better. Maybe I would not have liked the original series.

The second half/episode "Dress to Impress" was better. I think it was because there were not so many people in the scene waiting to say their lines. Perhaps that is why they put the two episodes together.

Disappointed
ottawa10128 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I really hoped they would go back to the early years in their attempted return. Struggling family fighting about money and jobs. Instead they went back to the social issues that ruined the first run. To keep up with the gay angle, lets have Darlene gay but to one up it, let's insert a cross dressing 10 year old. To keep up with the race issue, insert a black grandchild. They fell short however, we don't have any religious issues covered. The political bantering was horrible. Just write a comedy show. We don't need social injustice shoved down our throats. We watch comedy shows to get away from that

Just no
bombersflyup30 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Twenty Years to Life is about Roseanne and Dan adjusting to Darlene and her child living with them and Becky announcing she's going to become a surrogate, to make money.

I like most of the old show, but I had a strong feeling this was going to be bad. With an old cast and that it would lack feeling, but especially today with unrestrained content. Well it was more than bad, it was disgusting. Being weird for the sake of it and I didn't care or laugh once. Not to mention politics discussion, I won't be watching this. The X-Files revival seasons are mediocre, but at least watchable, this is garbage.

Unfunny from the beginning
Emberweave15 April 2024
With so many people screaming that The Conners would have been funnier if they'd kept Roseanne, I wanted to revisit this "final" season of Roseanne, because I watched it when it first aired and wasn't very impressed. Well, I just watched the repeats on COZI and I was right the first time. The show is not funny. There is no balance whatsoever between humor and commentary. The humor is missing completely and the commentary is delivered with a sledgehammer, regardless of the viewpoint. During the first three episodes I watched, I think I might have chuckled once. The dialogue consists of nothing but angry yelling. The characters are pale shadows of the original portrayals. It's as if the writers never actually studied or even watched the first five seasons of the original show in order to capture the Conners. I gave this three stars because it was nice to see the set and the cast, but after a few minutes, that novelty has worn through. If the Roseanne twitter fiasco hadn't happened, I doubt this revival would have lasted more than two seasons.
