- Alex Danvers: I don't know why I thought throwing a lesbian wedding shower would curb mom's cheesy antics.
- Kara Danvers: Nope. Gay, straight, whatever, Eliza will not be stopped until she digs up every bridal shower game since the beginning of time. You know what? You're gonna love Bridal Bingo.
- Alex Danvers: Kill me now.
- Supergirl: [in J'onn's car, distracting a group of White Martians] Hi! I'm, uh... I'm sorry to bother you during... um... whatever it is you're doing. But I think I took a wrong turn at Albuquerque and... can any of you give me directions back to Earth?
- Alex Danvers: How are you doing?
- Kara Danvers: Fine. Great.
- [seeing her expression]
- Kara Danvers: Alex, what's going on with me has nothing to do with you and Maggie. I could not be happier for you.
- J'onn J'onzz: I have to go away for a few days. I'm gonna need you both to manage the DEO until I get back.
- Kara Danvers: Where are you going?
- J'onn J'onzz: Mars.
- Alex Danvers: You... Mars?
- J'onn J'onzz: M'gann sent me a message. She needs my help.
- Kara Danvers: Help with what?
- J'onn J'onzz: I dunno. The message was short, urgent. I tried to make contact, but I... I couldn't reach her. I can sense that she's in danger.
- Kara Danvers: No, J'onn, you're the last Green Martian. The Whites have been trying to kill your kind for centuries. Going back would be a suicide mission.
- J'onn J'onzz: Look, M'gann came to our aid when we were in need. I must go for M'gann.
- Alex Danvers: If you're going to Mars, then Kara's going with you.
- Kara Danvers: Yeah.
- J'onn J'onzz: I won't have you endanger your life just to fight my battles.
- Kara Danvers: Your battles are my battles, J'onn.
- J'onn J'onzz: I can't take you away from Alex's shower.
- Alex Danvers: Are you kidding? If I thought that I could survive Mars, then I would be right there fighting by your side.
- Kara Danvers: J'onn, if Krypton still existed and I had to go back to where my parents were buried under rubble, I know you wouldn't let me do it alone.
- Supergirl: There's no seat belt.
- J'onn J'onzz: It's from a different era.
- Supergirl: And a different planet.
- J'onn J'onzz: I come from a race of shapeshifters, Kara. Why shouldn't our technology shapeshift, too?
- Supergirl: Fair enough.
- Maggie Sawyer: Eliza, the lasagna is incredible. Alex and I order in so much, I forgot what real food tastes like.
- Oscar Rodas: So, um, you're a homicide detective?
- Maggie Sawyer: Yeah. Among other things.
- Oscar Rodas: That cold case you cracked sounded very interesting, the Marshall murder.
- Maggie Sawyer: You know about that?
- Oscar Rodas: Well, I'm an old man, but I know how to Google. I follow all your cases. Tell me something. For eighteen years, they didn't have a single lead. How did you solve that?
- Maggie Sawyer: I went back to the scene of the crime, studied the ordinary details everyone dismissed, like you taught me. You used to say "The key to most mysteries is in the mundane."
- Oscar Rodas: You remember that.
- Maggie Sawyer: I remember everything you taught me.
- Supergirl: Shouldn't we just call Winn to fire up the transmat portal?
- J'onn J'onzz: No, you can't transmat planet to planet without a gate on the other side. We'll have to get to Mars the old-fashioned way.
- Supergirl: [he opens a garage door] It's a cool car. So, is this like an elevator to a secret hangar that'll take us to...
- J'onn J'onzz: No, it isn't.
- Supergirl: This is your ship?
- J'onn J'onzz: Yep.
- Supergirl: We're taking this to Mars?
- J'onn J'onzz: Yes, we are.
- Supergirl: [skeptical] Okay.
- J'onn J'onzz: [she plops down into the passenger seat] Careful with the leather there, Supergirl.
- Maggie Sawyer: I told a girl at school that I liked her, and my parents found out. I came home that day; it was winter, and my dad was there with a suitcase. And he told me to get into the car, and, um... we drove in silence, and I just stared out the window looking at the icicles on the trees. And I was terrified to say anything, but finally I said, um... I said "Papi, what did I do?". And then he just looked at me with such contempt and said, um, "You shamed me." And then he pulled up to my aunt's house and left me with my suitcase. That was the last thing that my father said to me.
- Eliza Danvers: The only thing shameful about that story is how your father treated you, Maggie.
- J'onn J'onzz: M'gann.
- M'gann M'orzz: J'onn, you came. I wasn't sure that you would.
- J'onn J'onzz: I'd do anything for you, M'gann. You know that.
- M'gann M'orzz: [noticing Kara] Kara. You didn't have to...
- Supergirl: You came when we needed you.
- J'onn J'onzz: What's going on, M'gann?
- M'gann M'orzz: We recently stormed a White Martian base near the D'ori'i Crater.
- N'keyy: There was a prison camp there, for Green Martians.
- J'onn J'onzz: There were dozens of camps.
- Till'all: This one was still in operation.
- Supergirl: How is that possible?
- J'onn J'onzz: I'm the only Green Martian left.
- M'gann M'orzz: No. There's another one. I brought you here because I didn't think you'd believe me unless you saw this for yourself.
- Supergirl: [seeing J'onn recognizes him] J'onn? Who is it?
- J'onn J'onzz: It's... my father.
- Alex Danvers: You never told me the whole story about your dad and the car.
- Maggie Sawyer: What's the point?
- Alex Danvers: I want to share everything with you, Maggie. The good and the bad. I knew that he was hard on you, but...
- Maggie Sawyer: Look, before that day, he was the best father. I know he sounds like a monster, but... you just don't know where he came from.
- Alex Danvers: Well, it sounds like you still really love him.
- Maggie Sawyer: I don't know. I... I'm just saying that he didn't have it easy.
- Alex Danvers: Well, have you ever thought about calling him?
- Maggie Sawyer: Of course I have.
- Alex Danvers: And?
- Maggie Sawyer: My aunt told me that my mother removed every picture of me from the photo albums. They erased me. I... I don't need that.
- Alex Danvers: Look, what your family did to you was incredibly hurtful. But sometimes parents can do really stupid thing when they're up against something that they don't understand. What if you invited them to the shower?
- Maggie Sawyer: Are you kidding?
- Alex Danvers: Well, it's the perfect excuse to reach out.
- Maggie Sawyer: Yeah, right. "You kicked me out because I'm gay, but hey, come to my gay shower".
- Alex Danvers: It was a long time ago. Okay? The world has changed. Maybe they have, too.
- Maggie Sawyer: I don't think so. Babe, look, I love you, just please drop it.
- M'yrnn J'onzz: I survived two centures of imprisonment and torture. Alone! So if you think exploiting the form of my dead son will break me, you are a fool! I will never tell you where the staff of Kolar is.
- J'onn J'onzz: Father, it's me, J'onn. I lived. I... I fled to Earth. I survived.
- M'yrnn J'onzz: You give yourself away, White. My son would never have fled.
- Maggie Sawyer: Hola, papi. Soy yo Margarita. Como esta? I'm living in National City now. Oh, tio told you. Yeah. Yeah, I'm a... I'm a cop. I like it. It's good. So, um... anyway, I'm calling because I'm getting married. No, it's, um... it's not a... her name is Alex. Anyway, we're having a party, a wedding shower, on Sunday and I, um... you probably can't make it, but I thought maybe I would, um, invite you. See, I'd like it if you came. Anyway, I hope you and mom are good.
- [bidding goodbye in Spanish, she hangs up; looking around, she sees Alex in bed watching her]
- Maggie Sawyer: Why'd I do that?
- J'onn J'onzz: I don't understand why he couldn't sense me, couldn't see me.
- Supergirl: He's been in prison a long time. He's probably used to tricks.
- Till'all: If the Green won't share the information willingly, we'll have to invoke the Rite of Tiagar, take it by force.
- Supergirl: What's Tiagar?
- J'onn J'onzz: It will allow him to force through my father's mental block, show him where the staff is.
- Supergirl: Could that hurt him?
- M'gann M'orzz: It could kill him.
- Till'all: We don't have a choice.
- Supergirl: There's always a choice.
- Till'all: Our survival depends on getting this information.
- J'onn J'onzz: Is that all you care about? Survival?
- Till'all: I swore to die fighting for this resistance. But I'm not gonna die standing here waiting.
- J'onn J'onzz: You think you have what it takes to break my father's mind? More powerful Martians than you have tried, boy.
- M'gann M'orzz: Enough. Till'all is right about one thing. If we don't find the staff soon, we're finished. So you have to do this, J'onn. You have to get through to your father. Can you?
- J'onn J'onzz: I can. And I will.
- M'gann M'orzz: Good. So hurry, because time is running out.
- J'onn J'onzz: You ever wonder, Kara, what your parents would say to you if they could see you now after all this time? What they'd think of the person you've become?
- Supergirl: Every day. They'd be proud of me.
- J'onn J'onzz: Yeah, I thought that, too. And I actually got the chance to ask. My father thinks I'm a coward.
- Supergirl: Then he doesn't know you. 'Cause the man I know has dedicated his entire life to making sure what happened on Mars never happens anywhere else. So go in there, J'onn. Show your father who his son really is.
- Maggie Sawyer: I wish you would have called and told me you were coming. I would have picked you up at the airport.
- Oscar Rodas: The bus was fine.
- Maggie Sawyer: Is mom...?
- Oscar Rodas: No, your... your mother isn't coming. She doesn't like to fly...
- Maggie Sawyer: Oh, you don't have to explain.
- [awkward silence]
- Maggie Sawyer: Are you hungry? We... we could grab a bite.
- Oscar Rodas: That party of yours is soon, no?
- Maggie Sawyer: Well, in a couple of hours, but we have time.
- Oscar Rodas: I can wait.
- Maggie Sawyer: [opening wedding presents] Alex, before I open this, I just... I want you to know that you are the greatest gift I could receive.
- Maggie Sawyer: You're just gonna walk out? After all this time, that's it?
- Oscar Rodas: I can't do this.
- Maggie Sawyer: Can't do what? Tell me, please. What exactly have I done that is so offensive to you?
- Oscar Rodas: You spit in my face.
- Maggie Sawyer: I spit in your face? For loving somebody? I can't... I don't understand. I... I don't get it.
- Oscar Rodas: I came to this country at nine years old. At eleven, I was working in a factory.
- Maggie Sawyer: Yes, I know.
- Oscar Rodas: Do you?
- Maggie Sawyer: Yeah.
- Oscar Rodas: Do you know that I was the only Mexicano working alongside a bunch of white boys? Do you know that they would wait for me at night by the road, and laugh and call me "wetback" and kick me 'till my ribs were broken?
- Maggie Sawyer: Dad, was does this have to do with...
- Oscar Rodas: With you being a lesbian? I worked to win their respect. Those same boys, when they grew up, elected me their sheriff. I endured for my children. So that you would never have to face that kind of hatred, so that you would belong!
- Maggie Sawyer: I am accepted for who I am. The world is different now.
- Oscar Rodas: Ha! They're building a wall to keep us out, because in their minds, we're nothing but rapists and murderers! The only thing they hate more than a Mexicano is a homosexual. The world is not different, my dear. Look, you can live any way you please, but don't ask me to witness it.
- Supergirl: Look at me. I'm not a White Martian. You can sense that, can't you?
- M'yrnn J'onzz: You're a Kryptonian.
- Supergirl: Yes, that's right. I come from a dead planet. I come from a dead people, just like you.
- M'yrnn J'onzz: Krypton is gone, but my world remains. And every day for 200 years, I have been forced to remember the horror of what happened to my people.
- Supergirl: You're right.
- M'yrnn J'onzz: There is no future for Mars.
- Supergirl: Not for Green Martians, no. But this is bigger than you now. This is about your faith.
- M'yrnn J'onzz: What do you know of my God?
- Supergirl: I heard you earlier. H'ronmeer tests us. This is a test. You have a chance to save your planet. Not for your people, maybe, but for another people who want to do better than those that came before. I don't blame you for not wanting to believe that J'onn is actually your son. I don't blame you for not wanting to open your mind, because if it weren't true...
- M'yrnn J'onzz: It would be like losing him all over again.
- Supergirl: Yes. And whether or not you believe he is your son, he wants to save Mars. So please, M'yrnn, open your mind just a little bit. Just give him a chance.
- J'onn J'onzz: This is my favorite memory. This is our home, father. I haven't thought about this in a long time. Can you see it?
- M'yrnn J'onzz: I see it. I remember it. K'hym. T'ania.
- J'onn J'onzz: My daughters. Your granddaughters.
- Supergirl: They're beautiful, J'onn.
- J'onn J'onzz: They were excited about something. They were terrible at keeping secrets.
- Supergirl: What did they know?
- M'yrnn J'onzz: That I had left worship early to surprise J'onn.
- Oscar Rodas: [at the bus stop, preparing to return home] What are you doing here?
- Maggie Sawyer: [handing over his baby picture of her] Came to give you that back. That little girl, so desperate to win her father's love. You left her on the side of the road. And all these years, I've been that little girl. Yearning for my papa to come back for me. Praying that one day he would see me and love me for who I am. Thank you for coming to the shower. You gave me an amazing gift. You showed me that I am not that scared little girl in that picture anymore. I am an adult woman, and I am happy in my own skin. And I am so fortunate that I am surrounded by people who value and cherish me. I finally understand I... I don't need you to see me or to get me or to even like me. I... I don't need anything from you. I'm already good. Goodbye, papa.
- J'onn J'onzz: I don't suppose that I can persuade you to come back to Earth.
- M'gann M'orzz: My fight is here. The war is far from over. We've come closer to victory than ever before, thanks to you.
- J'onn J'onzz: I'll see you soon.
- M'gann M'orzz: I hope that's true.
- Maggie Sawyer: You're all the family I need.
- Alex Danvers: I'm happy for you. And I'm glad that you're getting closure. It's good for you. And who knows? It might make you feel differently about things.
- Maggie Sawyer: Do you mean kids?
- Alex Danvers: Yeah.
- Maggie Sawyer: Sweetie, my not wanting kids has nothing to do with my parents or my childhood. My feelings for you are deeper than anything I've ever known. I can picture our life together. And it's full and it's rich, and... amazing. But there aren't kids in that picture. You're all that I need, Alex. I guess you gotta let me know if you feel the same way.
- Alex Danvers: I do. Of course I do.
- M'yrnn J'onzz: So this is Earth.
- Supergirl: This isn't even the nice part.
- M'yrnn J'onzz: I don't know. I rather like it.
- J'onn J'onzz: You know, I'm not sure I could have done this without you.
- Supergirl: Yes, you could have. You're the strongest man and Martian I've ever known, and I was glad I could be there to help you, anyway.
- J'onn J'onzz: I'll see you tomorrow.
- Supergirl: You got it, boss.
- M'yrnn J'onzz: [watching her fly away] Can everyone on this planet do that?
- J'onn J'onzz: No. She's special.
- M'yrnn J'onzz: Mars was once a paradise. But H'ronmeer wanted to test his children, Phobos and Deimos. To be sure they were worthy of it. So he offered them two gifts.
- J'onn J'onzz: A book of sacred symbols on morals that govern Martian life, and the staff, a weapon.
- M'yrnn J'onzz: The symbols could be shared, but the staff wielded by only one.
- J'onn J'onzz: Deimos chose the symbols. But Phobos chose the staff. He was the first White Martian.
- M'yrnn J'onzz: H'ronmeer was furious that his son would choose destruction over knowledge. And so Phobos was banished to the underworld. But his descendants clawed their way back and slaughtered my people.
- J'onn J'onzz: Our people. I am your son.
- M'yrnn J'onzz: H'ronmeer buried the staff for a reason. The Whites disgraced his name by slaughtering my people. I will serve my God by refusing to let you use his staff to slaughter each other, too.
- Supergirl: [plans to go along to Mars] J'onn, if Krypton still existed and I had to go to where my parents were buried under rubble, I know you wouldn't let me do it alone.
