Just because someone has a different opinion from you does not mean that they are lying.
I love weird shows. I just do. I know that many find confusion and bewilderment frustrating, but for me they are viscerally satisfying emotions, regardless of whether or not they are followed by clarity. It is perfectly fine to dislike a show like Legion or Twin Peaks for having an abstract style of storytelling. People can like different things, and just because you enjoy different things than I do does not mean that you are less intelligent than me, it just means that we have different tastes. What I cannot stand are people who think that anybody who likes something that they don't is either pretentious or a liar. I'm not pretending to like things just to seem smart. I haven't been paid to review things positively. I just like different things from you. I don't get why it's so hard for some people to grasp the concept that people can have differing opinions without a hidden agenda. This isn't just a one-way issue, either. Fans of shows like this have long been guilty of accusing naysayers of just being "too dumb to get it". This is an equally closed-minded and damaging way of looking at the world, and extremely condescending.

I hope that people will eventually learn to accept that others can have different tastes, and to respect their decisions about what is and isn't for them. Somehow, I doubt it. As Oliver said in episode 4 of season 1, "We are the root of all our problems; our confusion, our anger, our fear of things we don't understand. Violence, in other words, is ignorance."

Warning: Spoilers
I have almost 20,500 ratings at this website. Been here 17 years, I believe. Trust me when I say: I know bogus ratings. There are members here who rate varying ways. Some rate everything either a 1/10 or a 10/10. There's no middle ground for them. It's either a perfect film or show or it's not and is deserving of a 1/10. You seem to be near that class of raters. I checked out your ratings and while you do have some regular ratings they are all mainly 1/10 or 9/10 to 10/10. So, in your mind, it seems, if it isn't near perfect or perfect then of course it no doubtedly must garner a 1/10.

There are padded ratings by people who worked or are connected to films and/or TV; usually they are independent films and TV rather than film and TV that are high cost or considered "A" films/TV; and those extreme fans who want the film/TV to be a success so they rate them high, or want them to fail so they rate them low (as if this website has such dramatic effects on studios, in such regard.) My ratings, on average, are between 5/10 to 7/10 which means only a handful do I believe garner 1/10 or 10/10. But those are my ratings.

In the first season of this show I rated four out of the eight episodes 7/10. None of them 10/10 and none of them under 7/10. The first episode of this season I rated a 7/10. The episode I actually thought I was going to rate low before watching it I ended up rating it higher than I thought. It was the episode where he was back in the hospital and it was all fake. They've done a version of that episode in so many television shows it's just cliché and redundant; and they're always the same. I hate those episodes in shows. This show surprised me and it was actually quite different and they did a better job than I thought they would do.

Overall, for me, while I'm still watching the show, it's still barely keeping my attention as a whole. While I find the episodes to be of high quality, well written and directed it just feels as if it's building to something huge but never has a follow through. There are only a couple of things keeping me holding on; once those are gone I probably will be, too but maybe not. But this show, in my opinion, doesn't have majority padded votes but if it makes you feel better: your vote is padded because no episode of this show is a 1/10 and since you rate a lot of films/shows 1/10 your whole review seems a tad hypocritical. Padded votes aren't always in the positive.

A little better than Season 2 episodes 1 and 2
thebig-e-019042 May 2018
Good interaction with the Shadow King. Actors seem more into it than e1 and e2. So maybe this is picking up. Still lacking, and seems inconsistent. As in the voices David hears and e1 and 2 seem to be gone. Where did they go? I think I liked him better when he had the shadow king inside him.

Landmark episode that blows you away
Br4ve-trave1or4 June 2018
Imo this episode is up there with part 1, 5, 7, and now 11! This one was brilliant! New viewers debating whether or not to watch this series? Experience it! That's what this is it's an experiece. I just binged season 1 and watched part 11 and started June 1st 2018 it's that good!

The second season has been so fun I have no idea what the haters are talking about but I have ways to go but all the negative reviewa for this episode, let's me know that this is art! You're either going to love it or just not, simple as that! The last two episodes have been sp straightforward imo, so I'm trying to figure what it is that may not appeal so far and I think its hyper cerebral. It requires you to really watch and be absolutely alert and awake. If you're tired your likely not going to be into it. I can totally understand why someone wouldnt like this show just like people dont like Cloud Atlas, which I LOVE!

Season 2 has after 3 episodes raised the bar from season 1. It should be thought of as one long movie too imo. A few episodes play out as one long one but not filled with filler just that the way this series is captured and the way it executed, it requires it I think, at least I'm not complaining I really like the pace which may be an unpopular opinion because I binge as opposed to watching weekly.

It's tough because each episode has so much to process but also is better to watch in heaps.

I loved the cow in this episode because it made me think of Fringe and I'm wondering if that was the point for some homage.

I love the John hamm narration and what he talks about I find it very intriguing and makes me question what is really going on and how this season is especially about mental illness more than the first. This episdoe in particular raises good examples in the beginning with John Hamm qbout reality and how yawns are viral. How can you not be fascinated by this????

This episode is absolutely a 10/10 and I barely ever give them out but it had me on the edge of my seat with critical thinking situations. Bravo to Noah Hawley and boo to anyone bashing this show for poor quality.

I just find it annoying that...

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is really good, in fact, the whole show is, it's not for everyone I must say, I recognize it is made for a particular fan base. But for those who belong to that base, I at least find them to be masters at work. Some of their episodes are truly amazing.

But I've gotta say something about this episode, even thought the cinematographic side of it is mind blowing (like most episodes), I think the plot fails on some parts. Like, the whole point of this episode was to find the monk, who apparently had all the answers, but when David does find him, his finding is basically inconsequential to the whole show, as he gets no answers off of him, rants about how his girlfriend on two timelines needs this information to survive, instead of letting the man give him the answers, and then let's him throw himself off the building while standing 2 inches away from him and having extraordinary telepathic powers that could have saved him. Like, the whole point was to get the information this guy has, and the whole episode, David seems very determined to get it, but then when he gets there he just doesn't even try. Seems really convenient to the storyline but really bad plotwise. Kinda annoyed me and threw me off, but it's still an amazing show though.

This is the last scene but the rest of the episode is really good, so an 8 out of 10.

Paid votes? Production crew votes? Family support votes?!
rsvp32119 April 2018
Currently, there's 268 voters for this episode, and 195 give it a "10", 30 "9's", 23 "8's", the remaining seven stars are single digits...if you watch this episode, you'll see how suspicious this is!

This episode without spoilers: Women with robot voices that look like Freddy Mercury when he had the porn star moustache, a person with a garbage can over his head, zombies that click their teeth fast, a dairy cow that pops in wherever David is, a nightmare restaurant, an albino monk, and the non-sequitur scene flash hopping in and out of David's scrambled brain.

I'm convinced that the people responsible have a great laugh, week after week, when they see how highly rated this insanity show continues to be, and especially hearty laughs at the remarks by the pretentious that only the highly intelligent can understand it, and they'll not waste their time to explain it.

The beginning of this episode touches on the phenomenon of "mass hysteria", and the like. I think they are referring to all the "10" votes! lol

For the record, I enjoyed season 1 even as odd as that was, season 2 is complete nonsense.

Tics are not contagious
louiepapp21 April 2018
It bothers me when the premise of the episode is based on something a writer makes up thats not true. You can add it to your world but don't pretend it exists in the real world.

I don't know why this show has suddenly decided to "define" psychological conditions.
yu_gi_oh_yea19 May 2024
Nocebo has absolutely nothing to do with tics.

Tics are absolutely not contagious.

Claiming that an individual can develop tics due to psychological trauma, and then "infect" other people with "the tics" is one of the dumbest claims a TV show has ever made.

Nocebo and tics are real world psychological conditions.

I don't understand why this show has gone into season two suddenly trying to connect each episode with real life psychological connections, when it fails so hard to describe and represent them properly.

If this is how this show is going to continue I'm going to stop watching because this is genuinely one of the dumbest things I have seen in a very long time.
