The editors of Ladies in Black, Bloom and The Final Quarter were among the honorees of the Australian Screen Editors’ annual Ellie Awards presented on Saturday night at the Eternity Playhouse in Darlinghurst.
Mark Warner’s work on Ladies in Black won best editing in a feature drama, James Manché’s episode 5 of Bloom was recognised as best editing in a drama and Sally Fryer’s The Final Quarter took the feature documentary editing prize.

Dom Bird will head up a new unscripted division for MGM in the U.K. Bird is a former head of formats for Channel 4 and creative director at the BBC. The new unit at MGM will handle development of formats locally as well as working up original ideas on the ground.
Bird and Mark Burnett, chairman of MGM’s Worldwide Television Group, go back a long way. “I’ve known Dom for more than 15 years. He has a keen understanding of how to build great shows that relate to audiences worldwide,” Burnett said. “The U.K. is a very important market for MGM, and I’m excited that Dom will be leading our charge of unscripted content.”

MGM Television is planting a flag in the UK as it looks to ramp up production of non-scripted projects and has hired former Channel 4 exec Dom Bird to oversee the expansion.
Bird, who was responsible for commissioning some of Channel 4’s biggest unscripted hits in recent years including recent hits including Hunted and Lego Masters, will oversee new division MGM International Unscripted Content.
The unit has been tasked with producing original unscripted shows out of the UK, expanding its reach with UK talent as well as adapting the studio’s unscripted slate of formats, which includes CBS competition format Tko and Fox’s Beat Shazam as well as a revived World’s Toughest Race: Eco Challenge Fiji.

Lego Masters is coming to Fox in 2020, and the new competition series now has its host. Will Arnett is set to host the new series. The series will arrive on February 5. The CW has finalized its summer plans as it continues to push for more year-round programming. The network today revealed its 2019 post-tv season schedule including a half-dozen new series and dates for two returning dramas and three unscripted veterans. British series “Lego Masters” is looking to build a blocky empire Stateside, thanks to a joint effort between Endemol Shine North America and production company Tuesday’s Child with Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.
The popular Channel 4 talent competition show, which the Independent has compared favorably to “Great British Bake Off,” pits all-age contestants against one another to design and construct Lego masterpieces.
“Masters” bowed in 2017 in the U.K. and became Channel 4’s highest-rated new series, according the companies in a joint statement. Endemol Shine Group has exclusive rights to distribute the show outside the U.K. and produce local versions internationally. Endemol Shine International has exclusive distribution rights to all final produced versions.
“Lego Masters” is currently in its second season in the U.K. In February 2018, Endemol Shine Group announced that local versions were being produced for Australia and Germany.
