The two-part season finale of “Timeless” ticked up in the overnight ratings from last week, but it is unclear if that will be enough to earn the show a third season.
Airing from 9-11 p.m., “Timeless” averaged a 0.6 rating in adults 18-49 and 2.4 million viewers on NBC. That is up 20% from the 0.5 the show drew last week and up approximately 8% in total viewers. Earlier on NBC, the episode of “Genius Junior” at 7 drew a 0.6 and 3.1 million. A second episode at 8 drew a 0.5 and 2.8 million.

ABC’s American Idol, recovered Sunday from the previous week’s series low, suffered during dinging by CBS’ Acm Awards in its timeslot. Idol was the night’s top-ranked show in the 18-49 age bracket.
Meanwhile, CBS’ 60 Minutes fell 36% compared to previous week’s 1.1 demo rating when it enjoyed that Acm Awards lead-out, though the newsmag handily won its 7 Pm time period in viewers with a 56% lead over closest competitor. 60M was the night’s most-watched broadcast program.
The lower 60M lead-in resulted in a week to week 33% drop for freshman drama Instinct, which matched its lowest rating to date. At 9 Pm, NCIS: Los Angeles wobbled by a tenth in the demo week to week.
Despite Idol’s rebound, freshman drama Deception drooped to its lowest demo rating at 10 Pm, after a week off the air to make way for ABC News’ first crack at sacked FBI Director James Comey.

As a child, Neil Patrick Harris made a big splash on ABC's Doogie Howser, MD. More than a decade later, he made his big, small-screen comeback in How I Met Your Mother on CBS. After that successful sitcom ended, he ended up on NBC with a variety show, Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris. Since Nielsen households seemed to find something better, the series was cancelled, after one season. Now he's giving them a second chance, with the Genius Junior TV show. Does the first season have what it takes to earn solid ratings and keep Harris on the Peacock Network? Will Genius Junior be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. Let's just blow it and start over!
That's what literally happened on Timeless Season 2 Episode 1.
And you know what? The series is actually more coherent now.
While immensely entertaining, Timeless Season 1 had a distinct pattern to it.
Lucy, Wyatt, and Rufus would chase Flynn into the past and keep him from screwing up history too much. Every so often, they'd sprinkle in some Rittenhouse mythology.
If it doesn't make much sense, that was Ok, because Rittenhouse is a shadowy organization. No one was supposed to understand what it was up to.
Let's quickly recap Timeless Season 1 Episode 16:
The team was getting ready to get Lucy's sister Amy back.
Rittenhouse members were getting rounded up thanks to evidence gathered by Lucy's grandfather, Ethan Cahill.
Flynn was arrested by Agent Christopher after meeting with Lucy.
Rittenhouse's double agent, Emma, took possession of the Mothership.
Lucy found out her mother, Carol, is also a Rittenhouse member.
