Damn. it was a good year for music.
It didn’t always feel that way, though. While Kendrick Lamar’s aforementioned fourth studio album -- which hit like a meteor on the Friday before the rapper’s monster set to close out Coachella -- much of 2017 was defined by growers rather than out of the gate jams and much of the summer passed without a bona fide “Song of” said season. (Barely. More on that in a second.)
Really, it's only on looking back at the cavalcade of "Best Of" lists that footnote every year that you realize how full of noteworthy sounds 2017 in particular was. And now, with the nearly ubiquitous acceptance of streaming as the primary method of song consumption, not only is the roster of artists who find both large audiences and critical acclaim more diverse and democratized than ever, but the entire idea of a publication-determined "Best Music of the Year" feels almost silly. Cousins Naomi Anderson, Chitoka Light and Drew Stewart are all bonded by blood, and by their shared struggle with obesity.
Combined, the family members weigh just under 2,000 lbs., and are battling for their lives on TLC’s new show, Family By the Ton.
Stewart, 43, is addicted to eating.
“I need to knock off this overeating before it kills me,” he says in this exclusive clip. “If you’re on drugs, you can hide it. If you’re an alcoholic, you can hide it. But if you’re fat, everyone sees your problem.”
Light, 49, is bed-ridden and hasn’t gone outside in three years.

In the late 1970s, an associate professor in the Philosophy department at Johns Hopkins (thesis title: "The Nature of the Natural Numbers") began publishing essays on Hollywood movies. George M. Wilson wasn't the first person to undergo this shift in specialism. At the start of the decade, Stanley Cavell had published The World Viewed, a series of "reflections on the ontology of film." But Cavell had always been concerned with how works of art enable us to think through philosophical themes such as knowledge and meaning, and he held a chair, at Harvard, in Aesthetics. Wilson differed in that he brought a range of analytic gifts to an ongoing revolution: the close reading of American cinema, conceived as part of the "auteur" policy of Truffaut and other writers at Cahiers du cinéma in the 1950s, and concertedly developed in the following decades by critics in England such as V. F.

A long time ago, a grade-schooler got his hands on a spaceship. He followed the assembly instructions as best he could, snapping on the cannons, the landing gear, the tiny interstellar-chess table. Soon enough, Rian Johnson was holding his very own Millennium Falcon. "The first thing I did," he recalls, "was throw it across the room, to see how it would look flying." He grins. "And it broke."

On Wednesday, the rock band announced a new album, One More Light Live, dedicated to their late friend and lead singer. The LP is a compilation of songs that Bennington and the guys recorded live on their One More Light World Tour, which they were on when the singer died on July 20.
"We dedicate this live album to our brother Chester who poured his heart and soul into one more light. after we finished recording the album, we joked with Chester that -- since he had delivered so many stunning performances in the studio -- he had set the bar extra high to produce that alchemy on stage each night. Not surprisingly, he welcomed the challenge," the message posted on the band's website reads.
