Peace Hero
hannesjungbeck17 July 2019
Watching colonel Fakhir Berwari walk around war torn streets and buildings looking for explosives with only a few tools will surely have you sweating on the edge of your seat. Equipped with some kind of pick axe digging for mines and bombs, defusing them with only his wire cutters and a knife is incredible to watch. Don't forget his loyal and as daring camera man who in a caring way follows him in to almost certain death, collecting footage is mind blowing and inspiring. The way he communicates with locals and possible enemies in a respectful and fearless way makes him a man of high character and integrity. How many countless times Fakhir risked his life for what he felt had to be done, and how many countless lives he saved we might never know. I will never ever forget this documentary, or his name, Fakhir Berwari. A man who found himself totally engulfed by war, but lived his life as a true peace hero.

Better than The Hurt Locker
Leofwine_draca13 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
THE DEMINER - shown on television under the title HURT LOCKER HERO - is very much the real-life HURT LOCKER story, following the life of a Kurdish colonel in the Iraqi army who makes it his life's work to disarm as many terrorist mines as is humanly possible, often using just a pair of wire cutters. This documentary was put together with the aid of the colonel's son and is as moving, thrilling, and suspenseful as you could wish for. Most of it takes the form of a video diary, following the characters as they go about their work. There's no music and no added drama, not even much in the way of context. But then you don't need it. This hero's actions speak for themselves, and by the end this has become one of the most powerful documentaries I've seen in a while.

True hero

Warning: Spoilers
If ever the label "hero" was applicable, then Fakhir Berwari deserves it, ten times over. He saved thousands of lives, survived 7 explosions until he got killed clearing a mine riddled house. A modest man, devoted father, loving husband and Kurdish warrior fighting and helping defeat the beastly jihadi fanatics. Humanity owes people like him a lot.

Incredible Film, Words Can't Describe Major Fakhir
Phanghoul30 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Wal! Just watched this and it was an incredible film about what can only be described as the bravest man you couldn't ever hope to imagine. This Kurdish Major defused thousands of bombs in Iraq after the mess left by the bumbling coalition. Impossible to say how many lives he saved but it must be in the thousands (so many of them being children). Worked tirelessly everyday without fear, his defusing was absolutely fearless and without any regard for himself. The tenseness throughout this film is turned up to 10 and the emotion is overwhelming at times.

That this man had to struggle to pay his rent and afford medical services is shameful. One particular scene lays this heartbreakingly bare.

The word hero is applied to many people but it would be hard to find anyone who comes near Major Fakhir Berwara in this respect. Rest in peace Major Fakhir, you were one in 7.5 billion.

A fearless & heroic Kurd

Wow. Left me in tears.

Here I was thinking we wouldn't see Fakhir's face because he'd be covered head to toe in protective gear... nope. He put his life on the line daily to save others. This man is the definition of fearless and this documentary is so well made it's a must watch. I'm inspired and challenged as a film maker and as a human. Well done to everyone involved and most of all thank you for sharing this legends story.

Watched this it was intense all through the film a pair of wire cutters and a knife he makes Jeremy Renner look like an amateur. Very sad i think that after he lost his leg he felt helpless he loved his job helping keep people safe from those IED's what an Awesome amazing guy. Very sad ending. How he went about disarming them like it was second nature was impressive do not think there another like him doing that to this day like he did. RIP Hero.
