Recently seeing a number of Italian movies I've been meaning to watch for years,I took a look for similar flicks not from Italy. Picking up this short last Halloween,I decided it was time to meet the American cannibals.
View on the film:
Wisely keeping this low-budget, shot on low-res digital video to a trim 37 minutes, the screenplay by co-writer/(with Justin McFarlane) director Beau Batterson offers a refreshing sign of humour in the opening, via the writers playing on the absurdity of an Amish Slasher (!) Losing the comedic side once the Final Girls are in place, the writers disappointingly match the flat shooting format, as any horror or character development is left bare. Weirdly holding back from indulging in skin and gore, director Batterson & cinematographer Adrian Bravo fail to give any bite to the stumbling performances or give the bone-dry gore any colour for the fine young cannibals.
