The Making of 'The Night of the Hunter' (2010)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Excellent, thirty-seven minute documentary that takes a look at the making of THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER. The documentary features interviews with producer Paul Gregory, second unit director Terry Sanders as well as historians Preston Neal Jones, Jeffrey Couchman and F.X. Feeney. If you're a fan of the Charles Laughton movie then you'll certainly love this documentary as it pretty much takes you from the beginning when Laughton decided to direct a movie to how he learned about the novel, the casting of the picture and how it was originally a flop in theaters. the documentary does a terrific job at pretty much telling you everything you'd want to know about the film including Laughton's obsession with D.W. Griffith and how he wanted the film to have the look and feel of a silent picture. There are some terrific stories here so fans of the film will certainly love this.
