Our Job in Japan (1945)

*** (out of 4)

This seventeen-minute short was produced by the Army Pictorial Service and was actually written by Theodor S. Geisel who of course was better known as Dr. Seuss. The film starts off showing Japan surrendering WWII and from here we see the various bad things that they did during the war. From here a narrator explains that even though the war is over we still have to handle the people of Japan and their thoughts. From here this basically turns into a propaganda piece and a rather interesting one to say the least. The film offers up a lot of wartime footage from Japan so sensitive viewers should be warned that actual death photos are shown. It should also be noted that the narrator talks about how America doesn't judge based on race, creed or color yet we know that wasn't exactly the truth and especially when this was made. With all of that said, it is a rather interesting WWII short that history buffs should enjoy.
