Very much a mixed bag

Warning: Spoilers
I'm a big fan of the Purge films so I was really excited going into this show. Sadly it's kind of a mixed bag. It's basically The Purge: Anarchy stretched into a 10 episode show. Some of the characters worked pretty well and had interesting arcs. Pete the Cop, Jane Barbour, and the love triangle participants were all well written for the most part. I also like some of the elements the show introduces to further develop the world of the Purge like the Matron Saints and the Death Carnival.

But the plotline that really brings the show down was Miguel's search for Penelope. The acting from them both just wasn't that great and the writing for them didn't help anything. Also, Joe's reveal as the big final boss was awful and he really brought down the last two episodes.

Deeper detail on The Purge

Warning: Spoilers
This review contains spoilers.

The Purge's first season finale is entitled "A Nation Reborn." The episode follows up on the previous episode and has Joe Owens holding many of the main characters hostage as he holds a trial for all of them. The episode has Pete the Cop and Miguel trying to find Penelope before the Purge night ends.

The season one finale is everything that any viewers of The Purge television series will appreciate. The episode has the nonsensical logic from previous television episodes and movie installments. The villains in The Purge series are often frustrated characters that take advantage of The Purge event. Joe Owens is no exception. His entire goal of various people that have wronged him is a mix of schlokyness and hilarity that I found enjoyable. This is a predictable finale, but it is an entertaining one. The television episode seemingly utilized this well with some slapstick moments. For example, Joe Owens gives up on trying to kill Miguel and Penelope after The Purge sirens sound. He tells that pair that he will try to find them in the next purge.

I would recommend the final season one episode "A Nation Reborn." The finale caps off an entertaining season.

Grade: B

The Purge Season One

The Purge's first season is a ten episode television series that premiered on USA network. The television show follows the same mold as The Purge movies. The television series is able to explore more of the concepts that the movies were not able to. With a greatly expanded running time of ten episodes, the television series is able to follow a group of characters as they try to survive The Purge night. The television series takes its time in developing the characters. For example, the television series has a main character in Miguel. The entire series follows him going across The Purge night in the city. In addition, more of the New Founding Fathers of America are explored. Anyone that disliked the concept of The Purge will find the television series not much better. The television series is not going to convince detractors from the movies into enjoying the television series. This is a series that can offer entertainment to anyone that did like The Purge concept.

The television show seemingly has a slapstick quality to it that felt enjoyable. This quality showed in strange moments. For example, one of the captives of Joe Owens escapes captivity and runs. She trips a shotgun and goes flying. The camera work made it seem more comical than it should be. In addition, Joe Owens is petty enough to purge someone who wanted to be purged because the person did not thank him when holding a door open. The television series also has many special moments such as Jane visiting her boss David Ryker. These moments were foreshadowed in the earlier episodes but it made the television series more at odds with the overall tone.

I would recommend "The Purge Season One."

Great finale to a great season

Warning: Spoilers
Essentially, in the end, all the guilty got their due. The survivors were the truly innocent or the righteous.

I was surprised that Jane died cause for the most part she was righteous. But she did kill her boss. As much of a creep that he was, she shot him point blank. That I suppose doomed her to her fate.

Joe reminded me of me with all my old anger intact. I thankfully have let it go, but had I not, yeah. I could see me on purge night hunting down old bullies, maybe not old dates, but the bullies for certain. His character showed what happens when you do not let go and let anger poison your soul.

I love this show like so much. And all those nine episodes of theories. Really paid off, I loved each and everyone of the story lines.

Finally purge ends !
saptesh78616 November 2019
Finally purge night ends. It takes 10 hours means 10 episodes with most of boring sequences. All the thrill and tension of purge ( which is brilliantly created in movies of same titles) is dimming by totally trailing story with unrealistic way. Climax turn is not impressive. It seems a long drama of boring four stories with a loosen back ground of purge. For god's sake second season is also waiting to irritate you. My suggestion is not to watch this waste of time series. Instead this you can watch Purge movies to get value of money and time.
