Kate Winslet, the seven-time Academy Award nominee and Commander of the Order of the British Empire, is pulling her left leg out from under the table, stretching her bare foot out above her head, and showing off the black leggings she’s chosen for her long day of Zoom interviews.
“Sure, I put a bit of mascara on because I’m talking to fine journalists, but trust me, I’m wearing tracksuit trousers,” Winslet said. “I’m wearing sweats and bare feet right now, and wouldn’t normally wear makeup at all.”
This particular comment arose when the Berkshire-born actor was explaining what inspired Mare Sheehan’s perma-lounge look in HBO’s limited series “Mare of Easttown” — and how the character’s relaxed style isn’t that far removed from Winslet’s.
“Mare Sheehan is — she’s kind of disgusting,” Winslet said. “She’s a hot mess most of the time,...

Youth is wasted on the young. At least, that Russell Crowe’s take on it.
The actor responded today to an online commenter who disparaged the 2003 epic Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. The film starred Crowe as Jack Aubrey, captain in the Royal Navy.
The film grossed $212 million worldwide and was nominated for 10 Oscars at the 76th Academy Awards, winning in Best Cinematography and Best Sound Editing, but losing for Best Picture and Best Director to The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
Crowe called out the commenter who recommended the film as a sleep aid.
That’s the problem with kids these days.
No focus.
Peter Weirs film is brilliant. An exacting, detail oriented, epic tale of fidelity to Empire & service, regardless of the cost.
Incredible cinematography by Russell Boyd & a majestic soundtrack.
Definitely an adults movie. https://t.co/22yjNtQRbg

The Pongal holiday is kicking off in southern India with the release of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Master, the first major local picture to hit cinemas since the Covid crisis began. The Tamil action thriller stars Vijay (who’s also referred to at home as “Thalapathy” or “Commander”) and Vijay Sethupathi, and hopes are being pinned on it to jumpstart the Indian box office. (Check out the trailer below.)
The industry has rallied around Master, seeing it as having the potential to revive box office and spur the release of tentpoles throughout the country. One person on the ground tells me the film could help producers make future decisions, calling it “a very important release.” That’s particularly true in a market that typically leans about 90% towards local movies.

The first Standard expansion of 2021 for Magic: The Gathering will be accompanied by two Commander decks, leaks have revealed. Spotted by user Littleorlock over on Reddit, product listings on an unknown distributor website confirm that the preconstructed decks will be available at retail for approximately $19.99 each.
As far as release windows ago, February 5th is specified as the date that fans should mark on their calendars, with stock supposedly scheduled to ship later this month in preparation for launch in the New Year. Confirmed several weeks back by Wizards of the Coast itself, Kaldheim is intended to kick off the next Standard cycle and will be followed in the summer and fall with Strixhaven: School of Mages and a return to the plane of Innistrad, respectively.
While that concludes everything we officially know about Kaldheim’s Commander merch, recent edits to the Mtg Wiki appear to have revealed the names...

Of all the colors available in Magic: The Gathering, white continues to be bottom of the pile when it comes to the collectable card game’s Commander format. It’s worth noting, of course, that regardless of how well Wizards of the Coast manages to balance the meta, there’s always going to be a ‘worst’ deck and/or color to play, but when it comes to singleton rules, the archetype has lagged far behind its fellow members of the rainbow. While there’s no individual cause for this, one major drawback for white in Commander is a lack of unconditional draw.
It goes without saying, then, that in a 100-card deck which strictly prohibits more than one copy of any individual card from being used, a near-total absence of reliable tutoring effects or hand reloading tools makes closing out a match in the user’s favor unlikely at best and borderline impossible at worst.

Preview season for Magic: The Gathering‘s Commander Legends set may have started earlier than planned, thanks to several leaks over the last week or so, but there’s still plenty more to come ahead of the expansion’s launch next month.
Streamers, influencers, fan sites and a whole host of other outlets have been given their own individual cards to reveal and are sworn to secrecy until the fun kicks off on October 26th, and it’s an impressive list indeed. To save you from having to keep tabs on the wide digital world of Magic coverage, though, Wizards of the Coast has released a handy rundown that consolidates every single scheduled preview in one place.
This time around, spoiler season runs from the aforementioned date up until November 3rd, leaving players with roughly three weeks to get their pre-orders in and start brewing decks containing new cards.

Magic: The Gathering developer Wizards of the Coast is certainly no stranger to seeing its latest products leaked ahead of official release.
On several occasions in the past, fans have managed to get their hands on shipped cards early and naturally revealed their contents to others online. While Wizards would no doubt prefer to eliminate such circumstances entirely, there’s little it can do to track, trace or otherwise prevent the leaks from occurring. That is, of course, unless the cards in question have been pulled from a booster box known to have been stolen.
Unfortunately for AminoApps member NoUsernamePls – who has been gradually revealing cards from upcoming set Commander Legends – that’s exactly what has happened. According to a recent blog post written by the user, the German language box they obtained from an eBay listing was stolen. It’s worth specifying, of course, that NoUsernamePls had no involvement...

Standard may be considered Magic: The Gathering‘s primary format by Wizards of the Coast, but it’s by no means the most popular. Ever since its consolidation as an official rule set, Commander has established itself as the go-to format for a huge portion of the Magic community, likely due, in part, to the exponentially larger pool of legal cards available and, of course, the central deck-building restriction of only allowing one of any individual creature, sorcery enchantment or artifact in a 100-card deck.
It’s somewhat surprising, then, given the overt popularity of Edh, that Wizards of the Coast has waited until now to release a dedicated set for Commander designed specifically to be drafted. As revealed earlier in the year, Commander Legends is the name given to that highly anticipated expansion, and it’s out in just a matter of weeks. That proximity means spoiler season is...

Despite overwhelming negativity from large swathes of the player base, Wizards of the Coast has soldiered on with its pre-release hype campaign for Magic: The Gathering‘s latest crossover product. Announced last week, Secret Lair X The Walking Dead immortalizes several characters from AMC’s hit series as playable cards in the Ccg, an important distinction to make and the primary reason why folks have taken umbrage with their creation.
As a limited product (Secret Lair drops are only available to pre-order for roughly one week before they’re gone forever), many are concerned that each card’s short availability period and unique abilities set a dangerous precedent for future offerings, potentially alienating those who perhaps don’t have the means to secure their copies before the window closes for good. Whether the backlash will be enough to make Wizards think twice about doing something similar in the future remains to be seen,...

Magic: The Gathering‘s latest crossover product is causing something of a small outrage among fans of the card game on social media.

Crossovers with other media franchises are nothing new for the collectible card game, of course, with the likes of My Little Pony and Godzilla just two of many immortalized on cardboard over the years, but there’s something different about this particular collaboration.

Magic: The Gathering‘s next major release, Zendikar Rising, may be primarily focused around expanding Standard when it drops later this month, but that certainly doesn’t mean Wizards of the Coast is leaving fans of other formats out in the cold. As expected, the final third in 2020’s three-part block (Theros: Beyond Death and Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths being the other two) will be arriving alongside a handful of accompanying products, chief among them new Commander decks.
For those not familiar with the format, Commander eschews the usual Magic rules and tasks players with constructing a 100-card deck consisting of only individual cards – no copies. Due to the comparably difficult nature of building such a deck, Wizards regularly releases pre-made versions intended to be playable straight out of the box. These usually contain cards not legal in any other format and always provide a titular commander card, often in foil.

In case you hadn’t heard, Wizards of the Coast is pulling out all the stops for fans of Magic: The Gathering‘s Commander format in the latter half of 2020.
The card game creator recently outlined its release schedule plans for the long-awaited Commander Legends set as well as a breakdown of the various different products that players can find at their local game store. Split into two versions, 20-card boosters intended for drafting and 15-card collectors packs featuring exclusive extended art and foil variants will be available, and which you choose to pick up will largely come down to what you prioritize more in a Magic product.
For those that primarily play green, however, a third option is on the way. You’ll have to wait until December 4th to pick up Commander Collection: Green, but for those with a preference for playing decks with big creatures and mana ramp,...

If you thought Wizards of the Coast was finally ready to begin winding down operations as the final quarter of 2020 rolls around, you couldn’t be more wrong. So far this year, Magic: The Gathering fans have already witnessed the arrival of a record number of card expansions, but while up until now the lion’s share of releases has been focused on Standard, one major product still to come focuses entirely on one of the collectable card game’s most popular formats, Commander.
For those not aware of how it works, Commander tasks players with compiling – either pre-constructed or via drafts – 100-card decks consisting of zero duplicates. The unique requirement leads to a wildly different strategy and meta to that of Standard or other formats and often allows cards that would otherwise go unused or ignored to find a place in so-called singleton decks.

The Senate impeachment schedule will see President Donald Trump’s White House and personal lawyers begin their allotted 24 hours of oral arguments defending Trump on Saturday. As any former reality TV host-turned U.S. President knows, that’s no good for ratings.

According to the impeachment rules which were hammered out in a marathon session Monday, each side gets 24 hours over three days to try their cases. The House impeachment managers wrap up their portion today.

Although the recent “Crisis on Infinite Earths” managed to pack a lot of cameos into its five-part event, there were apparently many other ideas that didn’t make the final cut. You can see the full list of dropped concepts over on FandomWire via the link below, but one that stands out to us is that Smallville‘s Michael Rosenbaum was originally down to appear as Lex Luthor in the series. If this had happened, the actor would have joined Tom Welling and Erica Durance in returning for the crossover event.
The relationship between Rosenbaum and “Crisis” is intriguing, given that We Got This Covered was the first outlet to break the news that he would be returning as Lex Luthor for the special. However, Rosenbaum then explained that while he’d been approached to appear in the crossover, due to a combination of personal timing, there being no script at the time,...
