How easy is to fly through Venezuelan air space? Really?
lqfigueiro4 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Ok. Is Hollywood been Hollywood. But really? That easy to take an helicopter though Venezuelan main city and land at the palace? The writers gave room to superman complex US has about their soldiers and armed forces superiority. But... This is to dumb.

Down the board
vaguira2 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In what already was a mediocre season, this chapter is absolute nonsense. Invading the Palacio de Miraflores? We're not in the 1920's anymore. A waste of closure in what otherwise could have been a much better finale. The plot involving offshore companies was a much better avenue of closing season 2.

I don't see how this series can honestly go on.

Season Two: More "24" Than "Homeland" (And That's Not A Good Thing)
zkonedog30 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The first season of "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan" managed to do something pretty incredible: it combined great action/adventure scenes with solid acting, PLUS crafted a B-story (Suliemon and his family) that often overshadowed everything in terms of overall quality. Essentially, the show was able to take the best aspects of the action/adventure political thriller (like "24") and combine them with "Homeland"-style nuance. It resulted in a tour-de-force opening salvo for this show.

Unfortunately, Season Two doesn't come all that close to matching that first campaign. Instead of nuance and character-driven story, it takes the "political potboiler" approach and as such ends up being little more than action set-pieces for eight episodes. Gone are the emotional storylines and top-notch acting, replaced by prolonged action sequences and a plot that barely holds together (if one could even say that).

For a very basic overview, this season sees Ryan (John Krasinski) pulled into a conflict in Venezuela when his Senate mentor is murdered. The corrupt President Reyes (Jordi Molla) is seemingly pulling the strings behind this, and Ryan vows to get to the bottom of it and expose him. At the same time, new political candidate Gloria Bonalde (Cristina Umana) is challenging Reyes at the polls, provoking even higher levels of tension within the country. Oh yeah, and a U.S. military covert ops fighter (played by Jovan Adepo) is lost behind enemy lines, necessitating a rescue mission.

There are three major missteps this season seems to be suffering from:

1. Not letting Krasinski really act. S1 saw him get to be analyst, boyfriend, and action-hero. Here, he is reduced to a series of pained expressions. The thought process seems to be that the death of his Senate mentor will carry his arc, but it simply isn't enough for an audience to hang their hats on and robs this show of perhaps its best feature (Krasinski's talents).

2. The Reyes/Bonalde angle simply can't hold a candle to Suliemon in S1. To be honest, the entirety of S2 needed to be built around the President/challenger dynamic, as that is the main thing that kept me watching. As it stands, the plot branches off into so many different directions here that trying to do any character arc(s) with any depth ends up being downright impossible.

3. The arc involving the rescue mission is clearly an excuse to do a bunch of on-location action scenes, and it shows. It is filler to the highest degree, not resulting in any truly emotional payoff in the end. I understand that this show prides itself on being very cultural/international and filming in multiple locations, but I think the technical aspects of that goal got in the way of how it may or may not serve the story in S2.

Overall, then, I have to say I was let down by S2 of "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan". The experience has me wondering which season (of these initial campaigns) will prove to be the outlier? Will it continue to be a visual (if somewhat vapid) visual spectacle, or will it try and recapture the gravitas that made S1 seem more important/deep? It is indeed getting a third slate of episodes, at least, so only time will tell.

Despite all the negative commentary, the one thing I can say about the show (hence the 6-star rating) is that it is expertly produced. Even though the events of the season never really seemed to add up to anything, I can't really say I was ever bored with it either. It was just strictly a political potboiler through and through, while I prefer the deeper-dive that S1 conjured up.

Fire this season's lot of directors and writers, bring back season 1 group
rsvp3217 November 2019
"Pathetic Hollywood" best describes this season.

Obviously, no one writing or directing has any knowledge of Jack Ryan, Tom Clancy, or military details.

An unbelievable eight episodes that only children could be impressed by.

First season was excellent, and close enough to Clancy's Ryan character. This year, this "Ryan" guy is unrecognizable. They should have the decency to call the series something else.

** If you haven't read any Clancy books, read just one to see what you're missing - and more importantly - what Hollywood's missing!

I see that there's another season already approved for next year, 2020. I am already cringing.

I love the series but MAN is this far-fetched!

Warning: Spoilers
Only ONE thing to say; you STORM the Presidential Palace of the Venezuelan government - which constitutes an invasion - kill a bunch of people, and then say "as much as you want to take out Reyes, we don't have the authority." REALLY?!?! You've just declared WAR on another country and now you're nitpicking?!

The writing needs to get their facts straight
BruceWayne317 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
So is jack Ryan a analyst or a trained killer?!? A few episodes before jack Ryan is in a jungle raid wearing white pants and is just walking around, not crouching or taking cover, just a casual stroll, while the trained soldiers duck and crawl. Now in this episode all of a sudden jack is a head shot expert taking out bad guys non stop in head to toe gear. Just be consistent writers, please?

Season 1 vs season 2
Chef7412 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This will be a review for the first two seasons in general. The second season was missing everything that made season 1 great. You don't see many personal stories in the second season. There is more action but it doesn't make your heart beat. Season 2 is pretty much "go and kill them all" style Rambo movie. Our analyst Rack Ryan became a reckless field agent who acted more experienced than any other soldiers. He did some analysis because I guess the writers remembered that he was an analyst in the first place. Also they tried to present the story in a mysterious way so it wouldn't be easy to guess what will happen in the next episode. However story telling was more like obscure than an unfolding one. Although there as also a family here, namely the husbands of the 2 sisters in constant competition. But this family drama pales in comparison to the family drama of Suleiman. Suleiman's wife took 2 daughters with her, and her mind was always with the boy she left behind. The story was mostly about how to catch the guy without hurting the boy. In the second season, it was very clear that the president would kill the brother-in-law (general) from the beginning. Also there were too lengthy political speeches that made it unwatchable at times. Involving the father figure senator as the other 50% of the mess was another Hollywood cliche. In short if I give season 1 a 9/10, this should be 6/10 at best.

Jack Ryan in 'Call of Duty'
MegaMaexn11 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Season 2 was supposed to be based more in realism/authenticity, but to me that has been a mistake and made the show cringe and less interesting. This particular episode was like a uncensored version of the video game 'Call of Duty', Jack Ryan running around with a gun shooting everyone in sight is not only against the image he has been trying to personify, but also a blatant attempt at injecting more pointless action into the show, all of which falls flat on it's face. Unbelievable and poorly acted, with this episode in mind I won't be returning to watch season 3...

A predictable and underwhelming outcome
kriptexxxx9 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, the title says it all. Just imagine the most obvious outcome based on what happened and that was it. I mean, when in episodes 6 there haven't been another player introduced, it was kinda obvious who will be the big bad guy behind the scene.

The only surprising thing in this episode was when they just flew in to the presidential palace on a helicopter and took it completely over with 5 men. If the first season was James Bond, this was G. I. Joe.

Jack Ryan was this emotional hothead. The acting and production was really good, but the writing of this season was terrible. Just a bunch of cliches rebranded as Tom Clancy.

I am changing my 10 star rating of season 1 to 8 as combined.

Destroys all the previous build up
feyipuk14 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
President Reyes has declared the Americans persona non grata, kicked them out their embassy and accused them of tampering with the election to the degree he can virtually imprison his political opponent.

Yet one video - verified by the Americans - is enough to bring everything down around him? Reyes has control over the military, police and anyone else he can pay off, yet he's left the phone and TV networks open? An armed, American helicopter can land in the Presidential Palace without any guards telling the President and having him carry on the message it's all American interference? It's great that it's all wrapped up, but had expected more subtly - something Tom Clancy could do - in those actions. They had a plan to the palace; couldn't they sneak in underground (similar to how they escaped the embassy), rather than massacre a load of Venezuelan guards? Or that they arranged to take the airwaves back from Reyes grip and then get the video out to mobilise the people? And I had to go back to episode 7 to see what happened to the satellite terminal. Tom Clancy would have taken the terminal, had Xander take over control and give Jack the advantage, rather than just take it out!

Honestly, I wish Reyes had been innocent and it had been Sergio Bonalde who was behind the drilling, launching the satellite, all the murders, and just used Reyes as a political pawn. As the season went on, Reyes just became more and more of a cut out figure; too obsessed with the lifestyle as leader. Bringing Sergio in as the mastermind could have left Gloria more determined to crack down on corruption, if even her husband could be coopted. Instead we have the leader of Venezuela being helicoptered onto an American warship, not long after America is accused of helping her win the election. Why couldn't the reunion happen back at their house, now it's safe again?

So much potential that seems rushed for eight episodes.

It wasn't a terrible finale, but this summed up the season as a whole: a line or two that makes you chuckle, a few scenes that are okay, but just so much drawn out nonsense that by the end you don't even care about the bad guys getting justice.

One Sequence Detracted from the Series
IAM4UK15 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This show is typically entertaining, and often cleverly-scripted. Unfortunately, the writers' discussion of this episode apparently had a moment like this: "We need a thrilling action sequence!" "Let's storm the presidential palace and have Jack & Co shoot lots of people there." "Uhhh... That would be incredibly stupid." "But it'll look cool. We're doing it."

That's disappointing.

How did it all go so wrong
conjh13-15 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
While season 2 wasn't as good as 1, It was at least decent and entertaining, right up until this episode. Then it totally went off the rails; practically nothing that happens in this episode is within the realm of believability.

The helicopter flight was so ridiculous, it was hard to accept that they even put it in. But even more hilarious was how they didn't have authorization to kill the president (on a completely unsanctioned mission) but somehow, it's A-OK to murder dozens of innocent guards just doing their duty? And in front of a massive PARTY on ELECTION DAY, no less? But since they didn't shoot the president, apparently the rest is going to be fine, and won't cause an international incident of cataclysmic proportions, because of course it won't. Why? BECAUSE IT WON'T, THAT'S WHY.

Those are not necessarily even the most egregious examples, just the ones that stood out most to me.

This is not Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan any more, not even remotely. It is 100% Hollywood.

At this point, I have no interest in any future seasons of this.

Entertaining but misses the realism
rahuldalal-047882 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Much awaited Season 2 was quite a disappointment. The mystery was quite predictable & there are many flaws in the story. For instance is it that easy to kill a prisoner in the CIA protected prison and that too was guarded by Venezuelan asset and not an American?! They didn't even bother to figure out how he died? Also, realism was missing in the story/direction. 5-6 US soldiers moving around Venezuelan jungle on a boat freely and no Venezuelan soldiers have a clue how to find them? How about these same US soldiers with GOD mode type shooting skills were able to freely enter Venezuelan Presidents compound on a Helicopter without any resistance from the air or ground and easily managed to get to the President?!! I feel the story could have been better and direction definitely lacked the punch.

The entire 2nd season was a major dissapointed
BuckeyeChamp1419 November 2019
They have tried to make Jack Ryan into James Bond / Jason Bourne. Jack Ryan was not a Field Operative superman as this series has made into. Jack Ryan is a analyst who uses his wit and yes has some field capabilities when called upon but more of a common man and not NAvy seal elite as edited on this series.

Really liked first season give it a solid 9 maybe 10) second season more like a weak 7. They chose action and too many characters over a better acted and written plot in season 1. Season 1 you could connect with all the characters even the villains.

Season 2 Jack is an arrogant SOB; which is a far leap from season 1 which had many more similiraties with real Jack Ryan character. Not to mention that completly avoid any reference to Cathy Ryan like how did they break up but now hes foreign spies like James Bond.

The Vote is In, and We Have a Winner!
lavatch13 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Dr. Jack films the crime scene in the Caicara jungle, where President Reyes ordered the deaths of the dissidents and Jim Greer. When the footage appears on television, Gloria Bondale recognizes an image of her long-lost husband Sergio.

The stage is now set for election day. But after Reyes learns of the public release of the footage of the atrocity in Caicara, he closes the polls, resulting in a near riot in Caracas. The walls are closing in on Reyes.

Dr. Jack and Mike November now plan a daring rescue operation by chopper to free Jim Greer, who is being held in the basement prison of the Miraflores palace. The race is on to complete a daring commando mission.

Behind the scenes, Dr. Jack places a call to Harriet "Harry" Baumann in Germany. Somehow, some way, she must miraculously retrieve the phone of Thorpe currently in possession of MI5. The phone may reveal information about a mysterious phone call placed to Thorne at the time that Dr. Jack visited London.

As the commando team is rescuing Jim Greer, the populace has broken down the barriers and has entered the palace. The fate of Reyes is not entirely clear. But what is incontestable is that Ms. Bondale won 70% of the votes by the time the polls closed. The powerful military now give the salute to Madame President! Aboard the U.S.S. Peralta, Gloria and the children are reunited joyously with Sergio. Greer laments his fate to take a desk job, due his weak ticker.

In the denouement, Dr. Jack meets in Washington D.C. with Senator Mitchell Chapin. The senator is briefed about the mysterious Northlake Allied company working out of Philadelphia, which owned a half-interest with Cinco Palmas in the tantalum mining project in Venezuela. It was none other than Senator Chapin who placed the call to Thorpe, giving him advance notice of Dr. Jack's arrival in London.

The dirty hands of the senator were due to the proprietary interests of the United States over the precious resource of tantalum in Venezuela. Chapin did not want China to beat the U.S. to the punch to the mineral deposits. As a consequence, Chapin worked in league with Reyes with no consideration for the people of Venezuela. For the death of Senator Jimmy Morena, Dr. Jack tells Senator Chapin, "You paid for it; you arranged it." Senator Chapin is called in for questioning by the FBI, which possesses a warrant.

The end.

That was ridiculous, never seen such amount of plot holes
madmada5 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Yeah, 5 people will fly to the white house equivalent and kill all the guards, sure. The protesters can break the "cheaply made" gate and go kill the president, of course. A president who controls the army and the election committee and can stop the election can't rig the result, ok. He can make a minister disappears and kill a general, but can't do a thing to a civilian he has evidence she contacted a foreign operatives, makes sense. The big crime that they were hiding, is they're mining in their country, how bad of them. A German spy trying to save someone who was already safe (and killing people), may be she's an idiot. She tell the Americans he assassinated their senator, I hope no one tries to help me like that! Every one is suddenly Rambo including the guy with a heart condition and all "the bad guys" can't aim, it happens. Can you go break into MI5 and get me a phone, no biggie.

Explosive climax.
cruise0120 December 2019
3.5 out of 5 stars.

A great action packed season finale. Jack comes closer to bringing Reyes down. Lots of action. It does have a little too much exposition. But exciting.

Overall, Jack Ryan 2 i will rate this season 4 out of 5 stars. Better than the last. This season is action packed and a thrill ride in the corruption political world of Venezuela. Lots of action. The cast is great. A little too much exposition. It is an exciting season.

Season 2 went from enjoyable to Transformers 3...
peterlindstrom8213 November 2019
The first season of Amazons "Jack Ryan" was a a nice take on Clancy´s pretty old character. Having read all the books, it didn't diviate too far from the source material and stayed very believable. The second season started good, but started to scrape the line between believable and a marvel movie. The last episode of season two brutaly breakes that line and makes a somersault into sci-fi. Nothing makes sence and the ending turns into Michael Bay-style Transformers action. Characters makes decisions and reacts in ways that contradicts anything they´ve done before. The laws of physics goes out the window, bad guys runs into bullets conveyor belt-style, military tactics and international law is literary laught at.

If season three dosen't improve, I'm done.

Warning: Spoilers
But I have worked on theHill, and I promise you that there are correct elements about how Washington can work when someone's got a ton of power and skewed ideas about whose Interests come first, and how much greed can be excused. Self enrichment happens. Wish it didn't, but .... Now, how come so many other reviewers were able to get away with publishing shorter reviews??

And, just so you know, I'm not only a disabled NVy vet myself, I also am the former wife of an army officer who was in the Riyadh building which was the very first selected bombing of ibn Laden. So, yes, you reviewers who slammed the action scenes and the tactical issues have. Wry valid points. Just remember that intelligence community and federally elected officeholders operate in some ways that most veterans don't have a clue about.
