Good...

Thought this is a usual movie-making struggles and associated struggles kind-of movie.. and my assumption was not completely wrong to very extend. However, the film scored high at certain elements and that makes it a worthy watch.

Its not a commercial film as you saw in trailer. The director had did a good job. Nice silent movie full of sentiments. If you going to see this movie based on ratings please see that for ordinary audience that it was rated bt critics. Its not the movie for all. Its a class movie. Must say festival type movie. But good movie.

"And the Oscar goes to.." Malayalam movie

Salim Ahamed does extensive research on his movie thread on the facts ,as well as on the emotional side of his characters. This movie is about an upcoming filmmaker struggling to fullfil his dream movie, his financial and emotional struggles, the callous attitude of the industry, social interactions...all vividly portrayed. And when that movie becomes nationally acclaimed to be representing India at the Oscars, the change in the social attitudes....still the filmmaker struggling to meet the finance to present the movie at Oscars. Tovino Thomas as Isaak Ibrahim, the filmmaker, has done a creditable job. Unlike his flamboyant characters, Tovino is presented as a calm, timid, matured gentleman. Camera work and Sounds are of international standards. 8 on 10 for this 'very serious' project. Script, even though drags at times, has some powerful dialogues, which haunts you even after the movie.

Postscript: Movie about a filmmaker's struggle and his dreams to achieve Oscars.... Is it the biography of Mr. Salim Ahamed itself presented to us... 🤔 If you are expecting a movie of laughs and fantasies...wrong auditorium. This is realistic reel-life, which is sure to put you in emotional turmoil, especially the climax.

Capsule Review: And the Oskar Goes To... (6 Stars)
nairtejas12 October 2019
As you begin to watch And the Oskar Goes To... you feel like you are watching a substandard film with a low production value that somehow got to cast the talented Tovino Thomas in it. Then as the story of a determined filmmaker takes pace you begin to see the magic that director Salim Ahmed spews as he tugs at your heartstrings by showing the plight of independent filmmakers who struggle with production, promotion, and other aspects of creating cinema. Although the autobiographical traces are a bit arrogant when you read between the lines of the dialogues, And the Oskar Goes To... manages to keep you hooked with its simple story and a deeper description of the madness of cinema that some people harbour. Ahmed writes his characters well and that is one of the reason why that substandard nature rubs off from the film as veterans like Salim Kumar and SIddique grace the screen and make it more lively. Thomas drives the film with his nuanced performance and I am really starting to see a range here. I also have issues with how the female foreigner character is portrayed in the film, but I guess the other female character played by Anu Sithara makes up for it. Overall, there are glaring issues with this emotional drama but it still finishes the race with good marks. The meta element at the end is clever. TN.

A Film that goes deeper into Movie Maniacs.
SameirAli2 July 2019
A movie with only good deeds... how can it be possible? Those who watch films beyond the language and border knows, it is possible.

A film filled with goodness could be the reflection of the director's mind. Salim Ahmed never creates evil characters just for the melodrama of the story. His films always agrees on the fact that, there is a good person inside every human being.

If this film's title sequence makes your eyes wet. then definitely you are a movie maniac like me, rather an aspiring film maker who couldn't reach any heights yet. Almost all films about film making in Malayalam are super hits. That's because Cinema is so close to the heart of Keralites.

As the protagonist travels, he comes across a film lover. Most of the characters had to choose between life or cinema. Some are forced to choose life over cinema, yet the deepest desires for cinema remains deep in their hearts. And a few choose cinema over life, yet their life suffocates them forever. A few overcomes these hurdles and success embrace them. Vettukili Prakash's character just before the interval remains as a pain for those who have struggled a lot behind cinema.

It's a semi autobiographical movie. Those who know the director personally can never see actor Tovino, they can see Salim Ahmad throughout the film.

It's definite that this film showcase the career best performance of actor Tovino Thomas till date. Let it be just a beginning, hope he will conquer more heights.

Opening shot, sequence after the title animations etc were wonderful. There is no need of saying anything about the legend Madhu Ambat or his cinematography. Just perfect is the word, nothing more nothing less that requires for the movie was shot.

Santhosh Raman is a rare production designer who knows exactly what the director needs. Getting the right result from the right things is not an easy job.

Oscar winner Resul Pookutty is another example of perfection. Salim Ahmed is keen on choosing his crew. Today, those Directors who add accuracy and perfection to their work is hard to find.

Kerala has the most number of film makers, hope they accepted the movie very well. Those who haven't seen the movie, go ahead and watch it at the earliest.
