A Small Light co-showrunner Joan Rater knows that Anne Frank’s story ends in heartbreaking, horrifying fashion. We all do. Frank’s diary, written while the teenage Jewish girl and her family hid from Nazis in World War II-era Amsterdam, comes to an abrupt close when their secret annex is raided. Anne, and most of her family, later died in concentration camps.
“When I read the diary, still to this day — Joan Rater, 60 years old — I get so caught up in Anne’s humanity and in her everyday stuff, her amazing voice and just in her that I find myself going,...

Cable was still coming of age when the original “Night Court” aired on NBC in the ’80s and early ’90s. Forget Netflix; when Harry Anderson first sat behind the gavel as Judge Harry Stone, Napster founder Sean Parker had just turned 4. This “Night Court” starring Melissa Rauch as Judge Abby Stone exists in another century, but it may as well be another world.
However, showrunner Dan Rubin (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”) knows he has an advantage other freshmen do not. “It’s great if you have that name recognition,” he told IndieWire.
This is not the heyday of broadcast TV, but there’s always room for a hit like Fox’s “Accused,” NBC’s “Night Court,” and CBS’ “Fire Country.” The path to making it from idea to air is both similar and different. These days, we have summer originals, straight-to-series orders, smaller episode counts; a midseason premiere is no longer a sign of desperation.

The film, written and directed by Nicole Gomez Fisher, centers on Jessica Nieves-Sanders (Martinez), a high school drama teacher in Queens who longs to be a mother before she hits 40 and is forced to explore alternative methods to become one, after several failed attempts at IVF. Just as Jessica’s about to throw in the towel, she meets a young professional con-artist named Bridget, who she believes will be able to give her what she most desires, striking up a deal with her. Subsequently, though, she gets caught up in a criminal underworld, and is forced to consider how she wound up in dire straits.
Johnstone will play Jessica’s high school sweetheart-turned-husband, Gordon, a seemingly meager desktop analyst with a heart of gold, who dreams of having a large family.

Exclusive: Torrey Peters’ groundbreaking novel Detransition, Baby is in the works for the small screen. Anonymous Content is developing the novel as a television series. Peters is executive producing the project and will write the pilot episode. Veteran writing and producing duo Joan Rater and Tony Phelan will also executive produce and serve as showrunners. Kevin Cotter will oversee the project for Anonymous Content.
Detransition, Baby is a half-hour dramedy that follows Reese (34), a trans woman living in Brooklyn, who is unexpectedly contacted by her ex, Amy, with a proposition that turns her world upside down: let’s raise a baby together. Motherhood has proven an elusive dream for Reese, but there are catches: Amy is now Ames (30), a cis man, having detransitioned after living as a trans woman, and the woman carrying the child in question is his boss Katrina (39). Fox’s newest unscripted series, “Cherries Wild,” is, among other things, a very easy trivia show, an opportunity to watch the dial of a giant slot machine turn, and a thirty-minute-long advertorial sponsored by Pepsi. It’s also something that no one would mistake, at the present moment, for a show appearing anywhere else. While the show may not work, that’s likely good news for Fox.
Of late, Fox has had a brand identity of almost-startling consistency. Its scripted offerings include a robust suite of animated comedies and, on the drama side, “9-1-1” and its Texas-set spinoff, both of which generate chatter the further they distance themselves from realism or even sense. And its unscripted shows — especially those rooted in music, like “The Masked Singer” and “Dancer,” “I Can See Your Voice,” and the “Name That Tune” reboot — are so committed to their bits that they achieve a sort of sublime inanity.

Exclusive: Piper Perabo and Kevin Daniels have joined The Big Leap, Fox’s ballet-themed hourlong comedy-drama pilot, in recastings, and Mallory Jansen also is set as a lead in the project inspired by the UK reality series Big Ballet.
Written by The Passage writer/executive producer Liz Heldens, The Big Leap is described as a funny and contemporary tale about second chances, chasing your dreams and taking back what’s yours. The show revolves around a group of diverse underdogs from all different walks of life who compete to be part of a competition reality series that is putting on a modern, hip remake of Swan Lake. What they lack in the traditional dancer body type, they make up for with their edge, wit and desire to reimagine an iconic story to fit their own mold.

It will be a true family affair on the set of The Walking Dead. Hilarie Burton is joining her real-life husband Jeffrey Dean Morgan on the show, portraying his character Negan’s wife Lucille in a recurring role.
“Been pretty hard to keep this a secret,” Burton tweeted Tuesday. “But I love working with @JDMorgan. I love watching him become #Negan and take on that swagger. And I love the @TheWalkingDead family. They’ve been a part of our family for ages and I’m so grateful for their kindness.”
In Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comics, Negan was married to Lucille before the events of the zombie apocalypse. She was diagnosed with cancer, and Negan, whom Lucille was aware had been having an affair, broke off the relationship to spend as much time with his wife in her final days as possible. “The Walking Dead” has chosen the actor who will take a swing at playing Lucille.
The show has cast Hilarie Burton in the guest starring role of Negan’s late wife. As such, she will be joining her real-life husband Jeffrey Dean Morgan who of course plays Negan. Burton will appear in bonus episodes adding on to the events of season 10, the finale of which was delayed by the pandemic.
News of Burton’s casting comes less than a month after AMC announced its historic zombie series will end after season 11. The final season will air over two years on the network, beginning in late 2021, and consist of 24 episodes in total.
Burton and Morgan expanded their relationship with AMC earlier this year by hosting the half-hour video chat series “Friday Night In with The Morgans.” The weekly show was shot from their farm in upstate New York.

Jeffery Dean Morgan's wife is set to play his on-screen wife.
According to ComicBook.com, Hilarie Burton will appear on an episode of The Walking Dead as Negan's late wife, Lucille.
The outlet states that work has already begun on the episode, which will air as one of the six bonus episodes added on to The Walking Dead Season 10.
Little is actually known about the TV iteration of Lucille, but in the comics, Negan was married to Lucille ahead of the world falling apart and becoming littered with zombies.
Lucille, unfortunately, was battling pancreatic cancer, and Negan was having an affair that he ultimately called off to spend the rest of his time with Lucille.
Lucille died just as the outbreak was intensifying and became a walker in her hospital bed.
It's a tragic story, and given how much it connected with fans, it's hard to imagine the TV series changing much of it.

ABC’s game-show trio of Holey Moley, newcomer Don’t and To Tell the Truth swept their respective time slots Thursday, giving the network overall victories for the night in both the adults 18-49 demographic and viewers as the lineup returned from a week off.
Don’t continued to be the biggest draw, with the show scoring a night-leading 0.7 rating in the demo and 3.25 million viewers, even with its last original two weeks ago. Holey Moley, meanwhile, dipped a tenth, and To Tell the Truth was even.
Univision finished second overall in the demo last night with its lineup of Te Doy La Vida, Amor Eterno.
NBC’s night included back-to-back airings of Blindspot, with a special 8 Pm showing in the spot formerly occupied by Council of Dads on par with last week’s regular episode, while a 9 Pm episode...

TV academy voters are faced with a daunting task when they fill out their 2020 Emmy Awards nominations ballot, They have to consider 199 shows for Best Drama Series, which is 35 more than last year. At least they no longer have to winnow their choices down to just 10 favorites. As with last year, they are being told to “Vote for as many achievements in this category that you have seen and feel are worthy of a nomination.”
This year’s Emmys are guaranteed to have a new winner for Best Drama Series with reigning four-time champ “Game of Thrones” no longer on the air. Of its unlucky seven rivals last year, six of them –“Better Call Saul,” “Killing Eve,” “Ozark,” “Pose,” “Succession” and “This Is Us” — are back on the ballot. The seventh, “Bodyguard,” did not air any new episodes during the eligibility period from June 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020.

There was no dead-cat ratings bounce for Council of Dads, but the just-canceled NBC freshman drama series did not end its run on a low note. The Season 1 and series finale drew 2.8 million total viewers and a 0.4 adults 18-49 Live+Same Day rating on Thursday. That was on par with last week in the demo and down just in fraction in total viewers. (The L+Sd audience was still one of the largest for the drama since its premiere.)
Following Council of Dads, NBC’s Blindspot held steady as it too is headed to its series finale.
The other two broadcast originals on repeats-dominated pre-holiday night were the CW’s Burden of Truth and In the Dark, both relatively on par.
A rerun of CBS’ Young Sheldon was the most watched (4.2 million) and highest-rated in 18-49 program of the night, tied in the demo with a Holey Moley repeat on ABC.

That's a wrap on Council of Dads.
The season finale served as the series finale after NBC announced the show's premature cancellation.
On Council of Dads Season 1 Episode 10, we say goodbye to the Perry family way too soon.
It's possible the writers had a feeling they might not be renewed for another season, considering the way most of the storylines received closure.
But, that cliffhanger! It's now even more disappointing NBC chose to leave us hanging on that note.
Based on what we've learned about these characters, I'm pretty certain Larry chose not to drink after getting a text from Robin. But, we'll never know for sure.
He spent the entire season working through his guilt towards his daughter and how he treated her in the past. He made a conscious effort to change and show up for the Perry family.
Of course, he feels bad that he's the one...

This is it, Council of Dads fans.
The finale airs tonight. Will the story leave you satisfied?
We're not ready to weigh in on that just yet, but it's obvious there were a lot of plans to continue the journey of the Perry Family.
Council of Dads Season 1 Episode 10 picks right up in the middle of the terrible storm that will leave many devastated.
When such an event occurs, family rediscovers their appreciation of and need for each other, and you'll see that here, too.
It's not as if the Perry family and the dads need more fuel to fully appreciate what they have, but it never hurts for the reminder.
Before it all ends, though, there are some loose strings that need to be addressed.
One of those strings involves Anthony's presence in Savannah.
On "Fight or Flight," Anthony arrives at the storm-ravaged Perry home to find Robin and Theo in peril.
