Kung Fury Street Rage: Simple but addictive
Platypuschow13 December 2018
Kung Fury (2015) was a fantastic short, one that was met with critical acclaim so it's not all too surprising that a video game adaptation was created.

Video game adaptations are usually terrible, they're usually barely connected cashgrabs but to its credit Street Rage is far from that. In keeping with the retro 80's theme of the movie it looks like an old school arcade title and it really works.

The game itself couldn't be any simpler, you have two buttons essentially just being attack left and attack right. Playing as Kung Fury or one of his three friends you survive for as long as you can being besieged by criminals, soldiers, robots and ninjas. Each enemy type requires a different combination, namely for example 2 attacks for the soldier leaders and forward, back, forward for the stealthy nurses.

Considering the simplicity you'd think it would be easy but that couldn't be further from the truth. Not only is it very addictive but it's utterly merciless and gets real difficult real fast.

I personally have put many hours into it and though it's a one trick pony it's entertaining enough to steal plenty of your attention.

Simple addictive fun.

The Good:

Very addictive stuff

Has a real charm about it

Great pick up and play fun

The Bad:

Not much content

Steep difficulty curve

Things I Learnt From This Game:

All these hours and I still don't know what the red ninjas do

The simple ideas are usually the best

It's the 80's. All of the 80's.

Kung Fury is what you get when you take a bunch of ideas from a group of imaginative people and throw a lot of money at them. You get the best of the 80's action movie tropes in one package.

The story itself is a buddy cop / revenge movie. You have Kung Fury, a policeman who's partner was killed he's then hit by lightning while being bitten by a cobra. He then gains fantastic martial arts powers and uses them to take on the biggest Kung Fu villain of all times. The evil Adolf "Kung Fuhrer" Hitler. Along the way he's joined by his partners, the technological Hackerman, the dinosaur police officer Triceracop, some viking babes armed with machine guns and the god of thunder himself Thor. It's ridiculous. It's epic. It's over the top. It's everything you could ever want in a comedy / action movie.

The story behind the scenes was very interesting. They started a kickstarter to make this and as the money kept rolling in the movie got longer and longer. And it's available for free on Youtube. It's full of digital effects and green screen work and has been given a kind of filter that makes it look like an old VHS tape from the 80's complete with tracking errors and missing scenes.

It got so much hype and buzz that they were supposed to make a big budget Hollywood remake of it a couple years ago but only recently has this come to pass. It's not going to be a remake so much as a retelling and will include Hollywood stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Fassbender as well as some of the original stars.

Looking forward to it.

Silly film and it knows it

A movie that takes no apologies for riding the coattails of vaporwave/80s aesthetics and comedy ridiculousness.

This is a great short flick for those who want to enjoy a few good laughs and see some epic fighting.

Did I mention that Hitler gets his ass handed to him in this movie?

4.5/5. Don't watch the sequels.

For me it's a 10/10. The story, effects and the music make it a must watch. And it's completely free as well. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

The best worst film ever made

This isn't Sharknado good/bad.....it's Kung Fury good/bad.

It's an early 90's arcade game, crossed with sleep deprivation and the story writing skills of a time traveling crackhead trying speed for the first time.

Watch it and watch it until the end.
