its better than average.

Having seen quite a lot of real murder docu series along the years one gets pretty squemish,believe me, the worst must be'' the nightmare next door'' and on the opposite side you have'' the devil speaks'', and american nightmare settles somewher inbetween there. it tells the stories quite well, but there are to much repetitivness within each episode,as seeing the same live footage 8 or 9 times becomes boring . some of the cases are really heartwrenching and terrifying,and i do feel the pain that relatives explain during the time of investigation, and about the time afterwards. the producers of this serie could have retrieved a wider spectre of live recordings,espesially the use of live video interrogations and trial sessions.

all episodes has not been released when writing this review,so take the weight of the eight with a pinch of salt, but it is over average.

The victims are strong, smart, privileged (in some ways), lucky, and have gone through multiple SA until they're finally granted some sort of closure, can you imagine how MANY more victims out there who aren't as fortunate and fell victim the second.. third... fourth time to the corrupt ecosystem? And this is the 21st century where we have a lot of advancements in forensic science and we take SA more seriously than in the past.

This is one of the most frustrating things to watch. What's the corrupt ecosystem made of?

• corrupt law enforcement
• media too eager to just sell stories
• women not being taken seriously
• toxic and mediocre men (pigs) at the helms
• capitalistic and mindless goals and pressures that contribute to the worsening of all the above

Ugh.

Kudos to the producers for letting people speak, in full sentences, without being constantly interjected by inane effects, sound bites, external commentaries, irrelevant montage or visuals like in some other documentaries.

It feels scripted

Good stories but I can't help but feel I'm watching a bunch of actors. Some of the family and friends especially just don't ring true. To the point that it's distracting.

Unanswered questions

I usually enjoy these documentaries but this one falls short. You'd be better just looking the story up rather than endure this . Seemed unnatural, scripted & for some reason the couple didnt elicit any sympathy. Why was no CCTV checked, emails traced etc. We don't get the polices version at all. So many loopholes. Badly edited . The woman gave me covert narcissist vibes. Her family seemed like they were acting too. Something a bit off about the whole thing. Was intrigued up until part 3 but then realised this was basically about money in the end. I also feel something was strange regarding his ex too .
