- In this documentary we aim to explore ABI/TBI through shared experiences and brain injury services. We also talk to experts in the field of neuroscience and neuropsychology and get their take on this sometimes hidden phenomenon.
- The two-part documentary series aims to raise public awareness and promote a compassionate, open, honest, understanding to this sometimes hidden, misunderstood occurrence. It is a most in-depth personal, telling look about what happens to the complex wiring of our brain (something most of us take for granted) when something on a minuscule or massive scale goes accidentally wrong and leads to processing problems. ABI (Acquired Brain Injury) or TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) does not discriminate against the size of the accident. No, it just brings many questions that need answering such as: How is our soul affected? How are our thinking and reaction times affected? How is our personality affected? How long does the damage take to repair itself-if at all? How do our families cope? Is there any hope for us? Are there other people out there facing the same apprehension and fears as us? Can we share and care together? What support groups/specialists are available in Australia to help? Author, Presenter, Award Winning Journalist Dr. L.B. Wilshere-Cumming hosts. She interviews survivors and their families about their Brain Injuries (experiences, frustrations, outcomes) and speaks to neurosurgeons, neurologists, neuropsychologists, support organisations, university researchers and other rehabilitation specialists. Footage of how the brain works before and after ABI/TBI, along with no-holds-barred images of the host's own horrendous car crash are also featured. It makes for dramatic, compelling, emotional, and deeply personal viewing. The outcomes of it led to an honours degree and a PhD and an incredible APP called 'Mind Your Ethics' that teaches doctors, the media and families how to better communicate with a person who has sustained a head injury.—Lisa Wilshere-Cumming
