Very Bad Things (1998)
Overrated and tedious but has some moments
First of all - my standards for what I define as real Black Comedy are quite high ('Ebola Syndrome' is one of them), so I wasn't as shocked or impressed by the tone and violence in this movie as many of the other commenters here. If you leave aside the shock-value of this movie you are left with a remarkably slow-moving plot and badly written dialogue which mainly relies on people having nervous breakdowns and shouting at each other.
If I want to see a black comedy, I either want to see real outrageous scenes and situations ('Ebola Syndrome') or have witty and sarcastic dialogue between the mayhem (like in 'Shallow Grave') - both of which Very Bad Things did deliver only occationally.
Final verdict: 4 out of 10, just for the effort :)
Guinea Pig: Ginî piggu - Akuma no jikken (1985)
Vile, vile, vile
Quite possible the sickest and most vile movie ever put to celluloid (and one of the few times even people like myself start thinking wether it's a snuff movie or not - which it isn't)
Dark City (1998)
Nice concept but bad execution
Dark City looked like a fusion of 'Brazil' and 'They Live' to me, yet it was not nearly as good as these two films. Design and special effects were great, but the story and character development were lacking.
Cannibal Holocaust (1980)
Sick but intense
The film starts rather slowly and mundane (just like all the other italian cannibal movies) but once the movie swaps to the POV of the filmteam the films shows tremendous energy and offers some really sickening scenes. This is NOT a nice, fluffy teeny-slasher but a real horror film in the truest sense of the word, which goes to the limits to shock its viewers.
