Bend It Like Beckham (2002)
A nice feel-good film
Everyone except the tragically hip and terminally cynical should enjoy this film. It's sweetly innocent, even chaste, while both modern and timeless in it's tale of an adolescent's struggle for her own identity. Perhaps surprisingly, soccer, not sex, is not the most important issue she has to deal with.
Miracles (1986)
One Of The Best Religious Movies Ever Made
and undoubtedly the only one to contain a reference to oral sex. I must confess that the "Miracles" of the title were not apparent to me as such until the second viewing.
In this film, every prayer (Even an "Oh God!") is answered, in such a way as to be unapparent to the beneficiary. Conversely, every use of you-know-Who's name in vain is swiftly punished in the same manner. Especially, note the prayer that opens the film and how it is eventually answered.
Nothing flashy, no parting of the Red Sea or the sun standing still in the Heavens--just a deft touch to give the deserving a little help when needed.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Weak characters, but a visual feast
Wonderful visuals. I'm going to have to see this movie three times to have a chance to pick up the details. Dialogue ranges from mediocre to bad--but who goes to Star Wars expecting to hear the banter worthy of the Algonquin Hotel? The heart of a Star Wars movie is visuals and action, and this movie delivers the goods.
You can begin to see the beginnings of plot elements developed in Episode IV. Now that Yoda is a CGI character instead of a puppet, we get to see why he is such a respected Jedi Master. We meet the young Boba Fett, as well as the young Owen and Beru. And for this movie, the guys in the white armor are fighting on the right side.
This is a must-see for Star Wars fans (of course), but also worth viewing for action movie fans and technically minded movie buffs as well.
Evolution (2001)
A fun special effects movie
This movie makes no pretensions--it's a simple, fun summer movie full of special effects. The cast handles its duties in a professional manner, and there are enough laughs to keep you entertained throughout the movie.
