Halloween II (1981)
The series should have ended with this film
This is, by far, the best sequel of all the "Halloween" films. As far as I'm concerned, the producers should have ended the series here, because, after all, it is very, very clear MICHAEL MYERS IS DEAD IN THE END.
Never mind that this is just another slasher film. Dino DeLaurentiis works his magic here, as he would do three years later with "Dune". This is one sequel that will have you on the edge of your seats to the very end. To me, what John Carpenter started, DeLaurentiis finished.
For maximum effect, see the first two "Halloween" films on Halloween, October 31, and time it so that the end of "Halloween II" falls at midnight, the morning of November 1.
"Halloween II" is a sequel masterpiece.
Dune (2000)
Empty-handed TV remake of the original Lynch film.
This new remake of the original 1984 David Lynch film is empty-handed. Despite some great special effects (of course up to television standards), this film is too intellectual. The story line, allegedly more closer to the Frank Herbert novel than Lynch's film, lacks the action and impact of the 1984 film (and in some respects, the original novel), the pace of the story is too fast, and the characterizations are dull. Hardly enjoyable for my tastes. For an adaptation that's more up to par with Herbert's novel, stick with Lynch's film (the theatrical version, that is).
Superman (1978)
One of the last all-star epics of our time.
"Superman" represents one of the best...and the last, all-star big screen epic films of our generation...and certainly one of the greatest comic book films ever made. This movie tells the legend of the Man of Steel like it is. From Krypton to Metropolis, there has been no better treatment of Superman in any medium other than motion pictures. Christopher Reeve was born to be Superman, the performances top-notch, even John Williams' score is one of the most memorable. "Superman" is that rare one-of-a-kind film that lifts your spirits up from beginning to end.
