The Seven-Ups (1973)
One of the greatest car chases ever!
This little crime drama packs a pretty good punch, with fine performances by Roy Scheider and Lo Bianco. The film is shot on location in NYC so it has a gritty feel to it, making it more believable. The car chase in the film is one of the best ever put on film. The use of actual NYC streets makes the chase that more tension filled and riveting. If you like a good car chase, see this film. Overall, it is a pretty good cop story, in the same realm as the French Connection and Bullit.
The Driver (1978)
The Driver is the ultimate car chase film
The Driver is one of my favorite films. The style of this Walter Hill film still impresses me today. The car chase sequences are some of the best ever filmed. The chases are both exciting and realistic. If you like a good crime drama with compelling characters and thrilling chase scenes, this is the film to see. Most of the film was shot at night, thus the atmosphere of the film is moody and dark, and it has a film noir feel to it. The protagonist played by Ryan O'Neil is very quiet and laconic, he lets his driving speak for him. If you enjoyed movies such as Bullit, French Connection and The Killer Elite, you will enjoy the Driver as well.
Onna hissatsu ken (1974)
Sister Streetfighter! Kickass cutie kicks butt!
Ahhh a true classic, a cinematic masterpiece of epic proportions. This was part of the Sonny Chiba Street Fighter series from the mid 70s. This one is my favorite because Sonny takes a back seat to Sue Shiomi who plays the main character Sister Streetfighter. Another colorful hypnotic Japanese film full of outrageous dialogue, tons of karate action, and a whole slew of various ancient martial arts weapons are shown in full force throughout. I show this film a lot to friends, it's a rollicking good time and always provides big laughs. All you gotta know about this film is that it has classic dialogue like "Save the wigs!" in it, what more do you want?
Zhong guo chao ren (1975)
A Hong Kong Sci Fi Masterpiece!
This film is a true gem, anyone who has seen it loves it. Even Siskel and Ebert proclaim it to be a guilty pleasure of theirs. This film is a rarity, a Hong Kong Sci Fi film, HK is not known for it's sci fi films, this in fact was the only one the famous HK movie company Shaw Brothers ever made. The film is 90 mins worth of blindlingly colorful characters in all sorts of hysterical costumes kicking the crap out of each other. It's a simple superhero film, the plot is meaningless, all you have to know is that the main villainess is named Princess Dragon Mom!
The Green Slime (1968)
Wacky Sci fi film alert!
Long before the Alien movies became a staple of the sci fi genre, this 1969 Japanese cult classic introduced us to the concept of gross looking aliens running amuck on a space station. With ultra hip music, LSD conceived color schemes and the most stupidest alien monsters you've ever seen, this film will have you rolling with laughter throughout. Though a Japanese film, it has an all American cast, watching the bug eyed monsters take out everyone one by one is a pleasure. See this one.
