What is all the fuss about
19 April 2009
After the Oscars, I was expecting a movie that actually had some merit. Sadly, this is about the worst trash the movies have produced in many years. Boring and oppressively violent, I didn't see any redeeming values, unless you think obsessive exploitation of children is OK. I know some will dismiss my comments with, "He just didn't get it." Well, I did get it and this semi-documentary is simply not worthy of any of the accolades heaped upon it. I never ceases to amaze me how films like this advance an unsupported agenda my making the plot hard to follow. Wake up! folks, just because you didn't understand what was going on, doesn't make the move deep or even meaningful. Heartfelt trash is still trash.

Quite Possibly the Worst Movie of the Year
1 October 2004
I looked forward with great anticipation for the DVD release of this movie that had received a 10 for 50% of it's viewer ratings - making it #37 on the all-time list. After having seen this drek, I'm wondering if we all saw the same film. It appears that lots of people are believing the Hollywood hype that, "If you don't understand it it most be great". Well believe me this isn't great; it isn't good; it's awful. Uneven direction, purposely choppy plot line and ssslllllooooowwwww (to the point of being boooooring) pace combine to make the one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I loved the idea behind the story and the acting was fair, but give me a break. This movie never comes together and certainly doesn't deserve to be rated any where near the company of "Apocalypse Now", "To Kill a Mockingbird" or "The Pianist". Save your money, don't rent this trash; don't even bother with it when it comes on regular TV.

A Paltry Shadow of the Original
31 July 2004
I loved The Whole Nine Yards and was eagerly hoping this sequel would be similarly funny and entertaining. Unfortunately, it didn't even come close. Several times during the first two thirds of the movie I wondered out loud, "Where is the director (story) going with this?" It was like they were just combining random daily shots. Scattered between too many misdirected and confusing sequences were a few some genuinely funny scenes, reminiscent of the original. Enough to make it mildly entertaining, but not nearly enough. After listening to director's comments on the DVD, I understood why. He confirmed that they really didn't have a complete script until more than half way through the shooting. Too bad. The last 1/3 of the movie was much better. Just think what they could have done if they had started shooting _after_ they had a coherent story and a real script.

The BEST Bond yet!
22 November 2002
Clearly the best of the "modern" Bond series to date. Non-stop action with outstanding special effects; one or two not quite so good, but overall outstanding. Halle Berry was beautiful and believable as an action hero herself. Two hours really flew by. WOW!

More like a video game than a movie.
16 June 2002
Let me start by saying I'm a huge Star Wars fan; this one simply isn't in the same league. "Attack of the Cones" plays like a video game with overwhelming special effects and predictable action. The Acting was awful from top to bottom - we have some very capable actors here giving the appearance of just reading their lines with no emotion or involvement on the story. I can happily watch the other SW films over and over. I even saw Episode I six times at the theatre. I doubt I'll go to see Clones again. What a shame Lucas doesn't let his films grow up along with his audiences.

Panic Room (2002)

Good, but not quite what it could have been.
29 March 2002
In "The Panic Room" we have a fine colleciton of actors, a good director and an interesting premise - all the elements for a great film. Sadly, it never quite got there. There are gaps in the story line, bouts of unnecessary violence, predictable plot turns, and incomplete character development. There are some great directorial choices involving unusual camera angles and live action intermixed with B&W closed-circuit TV effectively using both visuals and audio. The movie kept moving at a fair pace and the 2 hours flew buy. Overall it was eminently entertaining. Not as good as "Wait Until Dark" but better than "What Lies Beneath."

If you liked the Mummy, you'll LOVE the Return.
4 May 2001
Few sequels are ever as good as their predecessors, but this one is actually better. The Mummy Returns with a better story and similar effects and manages to keep the campy attitude, accidental humor and adventure of the original. Great fun!
