it could be better
1 July 1999
I went to see this movie with high expectations, however, this movie is a disappointment. As an action/adventure/comedy, this movie seems to drag without much energy, and it is really not that funny. With such a cast and such materials, this film have great potentials but failed to fully utilize its resources. Will Smith looks good, Kevin Klein and Kenneth are both great, Salma practically did nothing in the film. Overall, this movie fails to deliver what it advertise, and don't expect much if you like to check it out for yourself.

The Governess (1998)

It could be shorter and more intense.
5 March 1999
I like Minnie Driver, I really do, but honestly, this film is a disappointment. The story and characters have so much potential, but the movie is a drag of uninteresting scenes that are way too long and unrealistic. I keep waiting for something interesting or intense to happen but somehow it never did. The build up that supposely leads to the relationship between Rosina and Charles seems weak and vague. The relationship between Rosina and Henry, however, seems more interesting but too short. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone unless you are a huge Minnie Driver fan, it is always a treat to watch her act.

keeps you on the edge!

This movie is definitely a roller coaster ride. Just when you thought you have a good idea what's going on and then comes a big surprise. There is not a boring second in this movie and you will never know the truth until the very end. One of the coolest movie of the year. Watch it! You will regret if you miss it!

a story that stays with you
7 November 1998
I drove 40 miles in rain and gusty wind to see this movie and it's definitely worth it. When the credits started to roll I was left teary and speechless in my seat. Joan Chan shows great talent as a director. The performances are flawless and the story is powerfully moving. Just the fact that Joan Chan made this movie without permission from China's official and it might probably never be released in PRC made it especially worth seeing. Watching this film will be an unforgettable experience.

Antz (1998)
10/10
very entertaining!
24 October 1998
This is one of the best movies I have seen lately. Antz is extremely entertaining, and the visual is just simply great. Some say the movie is a little slow, but I think the pace is excellent. I didn't find one frame of boring film. The story is simple, and I think simple is a good thing that many overlook. Woddy Allen is great, the character Ant Z is just perfect for him. Overall, the movie is fun and humorous,it potentially has something deeper to say but it didn't come out quite clearly. You sense that this is something like Animal Farm by George Orwell, but the message is blurred and was paid little attention to. This is not exactly a movie for childern, but as for teens and adults, you will find seeing this movie as one of the most fun and relaxing experience.

it'a ride if you have a strong stomach!
14 October 1998
I had people warned me about A Clockwork Orange, but no one ever warned me about The Cook, the thief, his wife and her lover. I lost my appetite for the entire evening after I finished the movie. However, if you have a stomach strong enough to stay tune to the entire movie, it will be one of the best movie you will ever see. The story, the use of color, the performance are all brilliant. The ending, in my opinion, is the best ending I have ever seen. If you are looking for something different, this is the movie you want to see, just don't watch it with a full stomach!

Four Rooms (1995)

it's not Pulp Fiction, but it's still good!
8 October 1998
I really don't understand why this movie got such bad reviews! Overall, this is a creative and refreshing movie. It is not Pulp Fiction but it is still a good performance. Tim Roth, especially, is the best thing in the film. Out of the four I like Robert Rodguize's misbehavior the best. The missing ingredient was indeed a bit cheesy but the rest are still above average performance. If you are interested in this movie but discouraged by the movie critics, I ensure you that you won't regret seeing it.
