Peacemakers (2003)
A treat for all Berenger fans
What a great thing to have Tom Berenger in my living room every week. This show is terrific. Great writing, great acting, and everything you could want in a show. The ensemble cast work so well off each other, and the historical aspects of the show make it so much fun to watch. I look forward to a nice long run of this series. This role was made for Tom.
Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (2001)
Go see this film. Critics need to lighten up...
It's been a very long time since I've seen a movie with my children that did not have to rely on gross-out humor just to get a laugh. "Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles" is a FUN movie. It's fun to let go and get in on the silliness of the jokes. Critics should not be comparing it to the first or even the second Dundee movies. This film is wonderfully different than both of them, and uniquely funny and endearing all on its own. Yes, Paul Hogan's Mick Dundee is still the same--still sweetly naive. Why critics feel the need to rip the character up for that just goes to show how jaded our society has become when people can't appreciate and embrace a quality like that in a film character. I, for one, love that my children can sit and watch a character who is moral, who is loving and attentive to his wife and child, who seeks out new things and learns from them and for the most part who sees the good in people. What's wrong with sending our children THOSE messages?
Diplomatic Siege (1999)
Ups and Downs
Tom Berenger, Peter Weller and Daryl Hannah deserve much better than this very weak script. Kudos goes to all of them for being the talented professionals that they are in doing the best they could with this script. This story had lots of potential, and with a cast less talented, it would have been a difficult story to sit through. Tom Berenger, especially, brought to his role the backbone that held this entire thing together. His character, literally, was the only one who seemed to not view the whole idea of terrorists holding human hostages, and the possibility of an atomic bomb falling into their hands, as a big joke. For whatever reasons, the rest of the characters found plenty to joke about at all the wrong times, in my opinion, and it made it difficult to get into the drama of the whole story because of it. On the plus side, the location shots really enhanced the feeling of the story, and the action scenes were very exciting. This is one of those films you don't hate, but you wish you could have liked it better.
In the Company of Spies (1999)
A thrilling movie...
I can't say enough good things about this movie, or the stand out performances by Tom Berenger and Clancy Brown.
This movie keeps you literally glued to your set, and catches you up on the intrigue and excitement of the CIA and the kinds of things they do to keep our national security safe.
Tom Berenger is cast perfectly as Kevin Jefferson. He is morally strong and determined in what he believes in. Berenger deserves these kinds of roles more often...and in these top notch kind of productions.
Clancy Brown, known more as a character bad guy, deserves much more attention from now on in Hollywood after showing this much different side of his acting.
Strong acting, great ensemble cast, first rate writing and directing.
One Man's Hero (1999)
A Movie Worth Fighting For
The struggle by many to get MGM to release this epic movie was worth every effort as you watch this beautiful movie on the big screen.
This is one of the performances of Tom Berenger's life. There is no denying the magnitude to which he portrays John Riley's great strength and character. His scenes, quite literally, draw you in like no other role he's played since Sergeant Barnes in Platoon. You'll gasp out loud when witnessing the consequences the San Patricios and John Riley face for desertion.
Berenger brings to this movie his heart and soul (along with an excellent Irish brogue)and it shows in the first frame to the last.
Artistically shot under Director, Lance Hool, and enhanced by the beautiful score from composer Ernest Troost, this is a film that will stay with you long after you leave the theater.
Tom is supported by an equally impressive and strong cast. Daniela Romo, as the fiercely independent and beautiful Marta, is captivating in every scene she is in. Mark Moses, as American Col. Benton Lacy, is a stand-out as John Riley's friend and one of the few fair-minded soldiers in John Riley's former American unit. Character actor James Gammon, who played coach Lou Brown in Major League and Major League II, brought to the movie his homey, down-to-earth talent as the likable Zachary Taylor.
This movie tells a little known chapter in American and Mexican history--a chapter that deserves to be told.
Tell everyone you know to go out and support this film to ensure a wider release throughout the United States.
THIS IS A MOVIE WORTH FIGHTING FOR.
A Murder of Crows (1998)
Strong supporting cast
A movie with twists like this is always enjoyable to see, although it had enough weaknesses to make me pause and take note. The writing was a strong point, overall, but the voice over effect was distracting and the movie would have been strong enough to stand without it. Berenger, as the cranky detective, stood out as the breath of fresh air this film needed--and I remember the days when he would have played the Cuba Gooding part and Cuba would have played the smaller role. And Berenger would have done it better.
Shadow of Doubt (1998)
Tom and Huey Rock...
Who'd have thought that Huey Lewis would have turned out to be a pretty good actor? The supporting cast of this film really hold this movie together, under Melanie Griffith's lead. Tom Berenger gives a great performance as the ambitious DA, and some of the best moments of the film are his scenes with Melanie Griffith. Overall,
I think the writers tried too hard with some of the dialogue, but the movie has enough twists and turns and a surprise ending that will keep you thinking past the movie's ending.
The Gingerbread Man (1998)
Stop the dang rain...
If it weren't for Tom Berenger being in this film, I wouldn't have made it through. And he only had 3 scenes.
The background noise was incredibly distracting and annoying in this film and made it very difficult to hear the actors and to settle into this movie. I understand the whole "artistic" reason for this kind of effect, but in this case it didn't work. Robert Downey and Tom Berenger were the two bright spots in this film..and Berenger especially has some great lines. Kenneth Branagh's great talent was wasted in the atmospheric focus of the movie.
