8MM (1999)
Good... but wait for it to come out on video.
All in all, I suppose that this film was watchable, and, in fact, good. But, in retrospect, it isn't exactly a movie that I'd rush to see.
I waited about a year-and-a-half for this to come out. Andrew Walker did an amazing job on "Se7en", and despite the fact that the person who's most famous for putting nipples on the Batsuit was directing it, I had confidence that both Walker and Cage could pull this disturbing subject matter off (anyone who has seen "Wild at Heart" knows what Cage is capable of doing-- he's come a long way since "Firebirds"). But alas, Hollywood got their hands on this film and I don't think that its current ending is the way that Walker envisioned it.
Nevertheless, save a couple melodramatic scenes (the actress who plays Mrs. Wells has to go), the film was okay. Gandolfini, Stormare and Bauer all put in extremely noteworthy performances.
Ulitmately, though, I suggest that any moviegoer not rush to go see it. If you're in need to see a flick, give it a shot; otherwise, don't plan your evening around it-- wait for it at your local video store.
Basically, just be aware of the fact that it takes a major turn for dark and licentious; also, expect the worst and you can only be reassured, or pleased.
Maybe next time Walker?
Killing Time (1998)
A worthy effort.
Quite frankly, I don't think that this movie is as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I concede the fact that at times it is a bit slow, but that is the desired effect; as the viewer, you're supposed to feel a part of the scene.
The film tries to accurately depict the lives of the hitmen and women in the film, and do you know what? It's not always that glamorous.
During the film, as in life, there are periods of intense action- and then there are those moments that leave you just "Killing Time."
