Deep Impact (1998)
The best sci-fi movie I've ever seen.
27 April 2000
Disaster movies aren't usually remembered for the human emotion that's in it, they're remembered for the special effects. Here, the two are brought together in a unique and memorable way. James Horner did an excellent job writing a beautiful score. The special effects are dazzling and the storyline held my interest until the very end. The performances also make up the core of the movie. Tea Leoni works well here. She has some nice scenes with Maximilian Schell and Vanessa Redgrave. Leelee Sobieski and Elijah Wood are convincing as the two teenagers. Morgan Freeman makes a very good President. However, the film's best performance comes from the brilliant Vanessa Redgrave, who is quietly emotional in her scenes and also very sad. We, unfortunately, don't see her as often as we should. Overall, a great movie that is one of the best in the sci-fi genre.

Wonderful!
27 April 2000
I enjoyed this film very much. Geena Davis and Madonna were terrific as well as Tom Hanks, Rosie O'Donnell and Lori Petty. Before I saw this film, I never knew there was a women's baseball league way back then. There isn't really much else to say, except that it is highly entertaining and features the brilliant song, "This Used To Be My Playground".

A beautiful and remarkable film.
6 April 2000
I can honestly say that this is one of my all-time favorite films. "The Sixth Sense" has it all. Drama, fantasy, a little horror, and occasional humor that makes it worth watching. Haley Joel Osment gives his spectacular Oscar-nominated performance here that is quite memorable. Bruce Willis is great in his sentimental role as the psychologist who works tirelessly to help this poor boy who sees dead people. Toni Collette (who also received an Oscar nomination) is also wonderful as the boy's mother. Overall, an enchanting film that was splendidly directed and acted. James Newton Howard also did a marvelous job giving the film it's spiritual feel with his beautiful music.

Plan B (1997)
Quite charming.
6 April 2000
I actually was surprised by how much I enjoyed this film. It stars Jon Cryer as a struggling writer living with his friend, Ricky (Mark Matheisen), who is a struggling actor. Then, there's the couple, Clare and Jack (Lisa Darr and Lance Guest) who try endlessly to have a baby. And lastly there's Clare's sister, Gina (Sara Mornell) who can't find the right man. This group of five are long-time friends and we get a view of their everyday troubles that seem amazingly realistic. The performances are terrific, especially by Darr and Mornell as the sisters. It also is quite funny, too!

Popular (1999–2001)
A surprisingly realistic show.
31 March 2000
This is a really great show! When I first tuned in, I found myself hooked. The actors are all great, especially Tamara Mello and Sara Rue, who really seem to concentrate in their scenes. Leslie Bibb and Carly Pope are not only beautiful, but unique and very pleasing to watch. I also have to say that I wish we could see more of the parents. Lisa Darr and Scott Bryce are a cute couple and they should get more camera time. To sum it up, I'll definitely be watching this show for many years to come.

By far, the best film of 1999.
28 March 2000
Without a doubt, this movie is a masterpiece and gives the audience a blisteringly honest look into the life of two ordinary families in 1999.

The first family is the Burnhams. Kevin Spacey (Oscar winner for his touching performance) is Lester, a sexually frustrated man who is looked upon as an idiot by his wife, Carolyn (Oscar nominee Annette Bening) and daughter, Jane (Thora Birch). He's just simply misunderstood. The spark has long been out of the marriage and they just tolerate one another.

The second family are the Fitts. Chris Cooper is the father, Frank, a military colonel, who abuses his son Ricky (Wes Bentley) and makes him take a urine test every six months to ensure that he's not on drugs. Allison Janney is the mother, Barbara, who seems to be emotionally neglected and is often seen as very sullen and distracted.

These two families intertwine when Ricky and Jane begin dating which leads to a shocking climax.

There's also a subplot involving Lester, who develops a crush on Angela (Mena Suvari), Jane's friend. The infatuation isn't disgusting, just showing a man who has finally met his dream girl.

All in all, this is a very honest and engaging film that received five Oscars, including Best Picture.

Death of a Salesman (2000 TV Movie)
Brilliant!
25 March 2000
I saw this play on the Showtime network and I loved it! The performances are great especially by Brian Dennehy and Elizabeth Franz (who won Tony Awards for their brilliant performances). Arthur Miller wrote an excellent book and this play is a story of a family battle, with an aging salesman who still wants to provide enough money for his wife and two sons. Sadly, it's not available on video, but if you see it, you're in for a treat!

If These Walls Could Talk 2 (2000 TV Movie)
A wonderful movie.
25 March 2000
This movie deals with lesbianism in an honest and brilliant way. The first segment features a marvelous performance by Vanessa Redgrave, who definitely deserves an Emmy for this. Hers is a unique and sad part that leaves you breathless. The second segment features Chloe Sevigny and Michelle Williams who give rich performances. And the last segment, features Ellen DeGeneres and Sharon Stone as a couple in 2000, who try having a baby and go to great lengths to find the right man. A simply great film.

It (1990)
A scary movie based on a great Stephen King novel.
25 March 2000
This film is probably one of the scariest movie's I've ever seen. Tim Curry is perfectly cast as the evil clown, Pennywise. There are some scenes in this movie (mostly involving Pennywise) that send shivers up my spine. The rest of the cast is mediocre and the best performances come from the child actors, namely Jonathan Brandis, Seth Green and Brandon Crane. Also good, is Olivia Hussey who does a great job in the short amount of time she's seen. Overall, an excellent horror movie that sticks with you for a long time!

Dick Tracy (1990)
"Dick Tracy" is an excellent film!
18 December 1999
Warren Beatty directs and stars in what is probably the best comic-strip movie ever. I've watched this film many times and never got tired of it. The acting and set design bring this film over the top. Madonna shines as Breathless Mahoney, giving the character a very unique and charming personality. Glenne Headley gives one of the best performances in the film as Tess Trueheart, helplessly devoted to Dick Tracy but still her own independent person. Al Pacino is the perfect choice for Big Boy Caprice and deserved his Oscar nomination. There's many cameo appearances including Dustin Hoffman, Kathy Bates and Paul Sorvino. Entwined in all the action is Danny Elfman's amazing score. If you want to be entertained, look no further than "Dick Tracy", a remarkably memorable film that has many qualities to brag about.

The best Batman ever.
6 September 1999
The first Batman introduced us to the main character, Bruce Wayne by day and Batman by night. In both films he is played marvelously by Michael Keaton. Another excellent trait from the first is the flamboyant and extremely enjoyable performance by Jack Nicholson. Now comes the second film which is better than the first by far. The story is more intriguing and the characters provide brilliant background to an awesome story. I love this movie on the basis of its special effects, make-up, and the performances by Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny DeVito. I couldn't have found a more perfect actor to play the Penguin than the incomparable Danny DeVito. He has the movie's funniest lines and creates a character very unique and memorable. The story is too complex to say here since it has many subplots but believe me, it's worth your time and money.

Flinch (1994 Video)
Excellent.
7 March 1999
Gina Gershon and Judd Nelson star in this underrated excellent film. Daphne (Gina Gershon) and Harry (Judd Nelson) have a very boring job, filling in for mannequins at a clothing store. One night they decide to have fun and watch what people are doing at night and what they see is a man strangle a woman to death in his car. Unsure of what to do, they turn to the cops but don't get any help there. Soon the killer is after them and they have to escape before they are his next victims. This film is very well done and the performances are terrific. Anyone looking for a good film I recommend this one.

Good but not the best.
6 March 1999
Jim Varney returns once again as Ernest P. Worrell, and this time he's fighting off a troll who is terrorizing children. This film is ok but it just doesn't have the spark to make it memorable which I find is the key element in movies. There are some funny moments, but some scenes are just boring. If you need a reference try any one of the National Lampoon movies but steer clear of this one.

This movie is hilarious.
13 January 1999
Warning: Spoilers
Elvira aka Cassandra Peterson stars in this hilarious film. Elvira has just received word that her aunt has just passed away and she stands to inherit something she's unsure of but hopes it's money so she can achieve her dream of having her own Las Vegas show. Soon she's in Fallwell, Massachusetts which is a dead end town where nothing exciting ever happens, until Elvira shows up. There she falls in love with a local named Bob and receives her inheritance, her aunt's house, dog, and a book of recipes that contains spells which her evil uncle is trying to get from her. I laughed a lot and I'm sure you will, too.

John Larroquette, Kirstie Alley, and Dennis Miller star in this incredibly hilarious film. Mark and Jessie Bannister (John Larroquette and Kirstie Alley) have the perfect marriage, a nice house and wonderful jobs. When long-lost relatives Fred and Bernice show up uninvited everything starts to fall apart. Soon they have about 8 guests in their house and have nowhere to go. Then they decide to get even. Filled with a tremendous amount of humor, "Madhouse" is a great comedy that is worth watching again and again.

Hostage (1988 TV Movie)
"Hostage" is one of Carol Burnett's best.
6 December 1998
Carol Burnett and real-life daughter Carrie Hamilton star in this outstanding and terrific film. Carol Burnett has always been known as a terrific comedic actress (which she is) but in this film she's very dramatic and does it well. Carol Burnett stars as Martha, who is recovering from the loss of her husband. One day while shopping she's kidnapped by Bonnie Lee Hopkin (Carrie Hamilton) who's just escaped from prison. En route to New York City they forge a friendship while on the run from Bonnie's father who's trying to get even with her for shooting him in the arm. Carol Burnett is a very funny actress and it pleases me to watch her being terrific as a dramatic actress in this truly outstanding film.

Victor Wong, Michael Treanor, Max Elliot Slade, and Chad Power star in this great family action film. Victor Wong stars as the grandfather who teaches his three grandchildren the art of being a ninja. Soon they're kidnapped by an old acquaintance of Grandpa's. This movie is also very funny and no doubt everyone in the family will laugh out loud. I recommend this film to anyone that likes action films mixed with humor.

The Munsters' Revenge (1981 TV Movie)
10/10
This is a great movie from America's weirdest family.
22 November 1998
Fred Gwynne, Al Lewis, Sid Caesar, and Yvonne De Carlo star in this funny, funny movie. The late Fred Gwynne is truly wonderful as Herman Munster who lives with Grandpa Munster (Al Lewis), wife Lily (Yvonne De Carlo), and his son and daughter. Sid Caesar is hilarious as the owner of a wax museum that has a whole section dedicated to the Munster family. When the wax figures of Herman and Grandpa begin to terrorize the town everyone blames the two. The two now have to clear their names before it's too late. You'll laugh out loud just like I did.

John Travolta and Kirstie Alley are great.
8 November 1998
John Travolta, Kirstie Alley, and Lysette Anthony are wonderful in this funny, funny film. James and Mollie Ubriacco (John Travolta and Kirstie Alley) now have 2 more bundles of joy...dogs! Danny DeVito lends his talent as the voice of Rocks, a street dog who now belongs to Mikey. Diane Keaton is the voice of Daphne, a poodle that's dropped off by James's boss, Samantha (Lysette Anthony) who's got her sights on stealing James from Mollie. This is a great movie that is really enjoyable for everyone in the family.

Every single moment in this movie is hilarious. Jim Varney is great as Jed Clampett who becomes a billionaire once he strikes oil and then decides to move his family to Beverly Hills. Soon Jed finds that people are trying to steal his money. This movie is really funny and features cameos by Dolly Parton, Buddy Ebsen, and Zsa Zsa Gabor. You'll laugh really hard.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Penelope Ann Miller, Pamela Reed, Richard Tyson, and Academy Award winner Linda Hunt star in this action-packed, funny movie. Arnold Schwarzenneger is John Kimble who goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher while investigating a case. Soon he falls in love with a teacher who's the ex-wife of his enemy. Now he's trying to protect his enemy's son who's also one of his students. This is funny and Arnold Schwarzenegger is really awesome.

8 November 1998
Bill Murray, Karen Allen, Alfre Woodard, John Forsythe, Robert Mitchum, John Glover, Bobcat Goldthwait, Carol Kane, and David Johansen star in this laugh-filled Christmas movie. Frank Cross (Bill Murray) has always been bitter with everybody but meets his match when he meets the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Bill Murray has never been better. Carol Kane almost steals the show as the Ghost of Christmas Present. Bobcat Goldthwait is also terrific as a colleague of Frank's who becomes homicidal once he loses his job. "Scrooged" is a truly funny movie that received an Academy Award nomination for its wonderful make-up.

Annie (1982)
Carol Burnett steals the show.
8 November 1998
Carol Burnett, Albert Finney, Ann Reinking, Bernadette Peters, Tim Curry, Edward Herrmann, and Aileen Quinn star in this great version of the Broadway classic. Carol Burnett is very, very, very funny as Miss Hannigan, the mean caretaker of the orphanage where Annie is. Annie then goes to stay with billionaire Daddy Warbucks (Albert Finney) at his mansion. Soon she is kidnapped by Miss Hannigan's brother (Tim Curry) and his girlfriend Lilly (Bernadette Peters). The only good singing parts of this film are when Carol Burnett sings. If you want to see Carol Burnett at her best then see this one.

Stowaway (1936)
"Stowaway" is a great Shirley Temple classic.
8 November 1998
Shirley Temple, Robert Young, and Alice Faye star in this wonderful family film. Shirley Temple plays Barbara Stewart aka Ching-Ching, a lovable child who befriends Tommy Randall (Robert Young) in China. Both end up on a ship going to the United States. There they both meet Susan Parker (Alice Faye, in a brilliant performance). If you like Shirley Temple films and haven't seen this one you definitely should. Shirley was always great in her films and this one is no exception.
