Family Rules (1999)
A Spectacular Show!
I am a huge fan of "Family Rules". I recommend it to everybody. You have to watch it, at least once. You may not all become hooked, but I bet a lot of you will. The head of the family is Greg Evigan, who plays Nate Harrison. The family includes four daughters, each of whom are experiencing life at different stages of growing up. Hope (Maggie Lawson) is the oldest, followed by Ann (Shawna Waldron), C.J. (Andi Eystad) and Lucy (Brooke Garrett). C.J. is my favorite. She is a hilarious, adventure-seeking, sports-loving girl! Portrayed perfectly by Andi Eystad (who appeared in the award winning independant film, "The Legend of Cryin' Ryan"), C.J. is a LOT of fun to watch. No matter how much she might appear in each episode, in my opinion, Andi steals every scene she's in! Every Tuesday (for the record "Family Rules" appears on Tuesdays at 8:30 pm on UPN), I look forward to seeing C.J. and her wild adventures. Whether it's video taping Hope's party, or hiding in the bathtub to "listen" to her sisters, Andi truly is a blast to watch!
I watch it with my whole family and we thoroughly enjoy it. If you're part of a family, you can relate to it. Look for funny moments from Uncle Phil (Doogie Howser's Markus Redmond) who is Nate's best friend and very close to the Harrison Family. I hope that people give "Family Rules" a chance. I hope to watch this fine show for a LONG time. A lot of you will probably see a part of you in some (if not all) of the characters. Families rule... and so does "Family Rules".
Cruel Intentions (1999)
Stellar cast... stellar film!
"Cruel Intentions" was a tremendous film, one of the best I've seen in a while. Ryan Phillippe, who plays Sebastian, is outstanding! I honestly think that he is the dream of every woman and the envy of all men. Ryan is one of the two best up and coming actors (along with "I know what you did last summer" co-star Freddie Prinze, Jr) in movies today. Sarah Michelle Gellar, who plays Kathryn, gives evil a good name. You can't help but love how condenscending she is. As for Gellar, who's been everywhere lately, the performance was (as expected) great. Based on the book "Dangerous Liasions", "Cruel Intentions" is full of twists and turns.
There are solid co-starring performances by a couple of actors from tv's WB. They include Joshua Jackson (Dawson's Creek") and Selma Blair (Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane), who is from Southfield, Michigan!! Reese Witherspoon portrays Annette beautifully, showing why she has established herself as one the best young actresses there is. It was neat to see Phillippe and Witherspoon on the big screen since they are dating in real life. With news that they are expecting, I want to say Congratulations Reese and Ryan!
I recommend "Cruel Intentions" for just about anybody. I believe it's Ryan Phillippe's best work to date, and it showed the tremendous range of both Sarah Michelle Gellar and Reese Witherspoon. With that being said, to sum it up... I can't wait to see it again and to introduce more people to the world of "Cruel Intentions".
Boy Meets World (1993)
The trials and tribulations of Cory Matthews
"Boy Meets World" is a fantastic show. I wait in anticipation every week to see what happens with Cory (Ben Savage), Topanga (Danielle Fishel), Eric (Will Freidle), Shawn (Rider Strong) etc. I believe the show's been the most entertaining the past two seasons or so. Cory and Topanga's romance has really escalated, and the gang has remained tight in the transformation from High School to College. I love seeing Cory and Topanga together as much as anyone, but my favorite storyline ever was when the gang went on a skiing field trip. Cory hurt his ankle and met this fantastic "cute mountain girl" named Lauren. They really hit it off and it was fun to see Cory enjoying himself with another girl. Of course, Cory and Topanga stayed together...but not without some drama. People must admit that Linda Cardellini (who plays Lauren) is something special. Not only is she very attractive, but she's a tremendously talented actress. I'm glad that she was on a 2nd episode so that the storyline was closed properly, but who knows? Maybe...just maybe...Lauren will be on again someday, you never know! Until then, however, I'll keep watching this excellent sitcom. Another plus this show has is it's ability to get stars to appear on the show. Here are some stars that have appeared on "BMWorld": Larisa Oleynik "Alex Mack", Keri Russell "Felicity", Jennifer Love Hewitt "Party of Five" and Melissa Joan Hart "Sabrina". Now, those are some great guest stars! So, Please, Keep Watching. If nothing else, watch it for Eric and Jack (Matthew Lawrence) who are the funniest tandem on TV since... Jerry and George from "Seinfeld". I will forever be a "Boy Meets World" fan and I just hope that it stays on for a long time.
She's All That (1999)
Girl goes from geek to goddess...with a little help.
"She's all that" is an exceptional movie. I know that it draws comparisons to "Pretty in Pink", "Can't buy me love" and others, but this should be listed among those classics. Rachael Leigh Cook, who plays Lainie Boggs, does an exceptional role. She's drawn comparisons to Winona Ryder, Audrey Hepburn, and Natalie Portman, if you ask me, that's good company. Freddie Prinze, Jr does a great job as the Mr. Popularity, but Lainie doesn't fall for him as quickly as most other girls would. Look for an outstanding (although relatively small) role by Anna Paquin, who plays Prinze's younger sister and make-up artist Mackenzie. Paquin, an academy award winner for "The Piano", is terrific in an unusual role for her. The star of the show, however, is Rachael Leigh Cook. My favorite scene isn't anything she says, but it's how she looks when she is walking down the hall with her friend Jessie (Elden Henson). I love the way she walks in this movie. I hope that stardom soon follows Cook. In the future, Academy Award nominations are sure to follow (like her comparisons to Hepburn and Ryder). If I had to characterize Rachael Leigh Cook in one sentence, it would be: She's all that.
