Operation Repo: The Movie (2009)
Grab the Lysol Martha, this thing STINKS!!
Lou Pizzaro is a Director? = of what? Illegal dog-fights in San Fernando? This total waste of studio money needs to be spent on scripting REAL shows! At least it's not a waste of talent .... since there is none. The characters appear to be from the Cantina scene in Star Wars. I've seen better directed "special effects" in high school plays.
All in all, a very low-budget attempt to create "entertainment" from an obvious inexperienced crew top to bottom ... unbelievable characters, inane plots, poor scripting, bad acting ... what more could you want from a group of wannabe movie-makers?
A Christmas Story (1983)
"You'll Put Your Eye Out!"
So true to life!! Altho filmed in the 80's, this move is so reflective of life in So-Cal in the 40's - 50's. (The "War" years). I actually lived some of these scenes - hitting the neighborhood bully, sticking my tongue on a frozen street sign pole, "waiting for my Father to get home" and afraid of Santa. I was "Ralphy;s" age at the time I went through the "trauma" of the Christmas season, waiting for Santa, Mom & Dad getting us kids to bed early Christmas Eve, visiting the {Ugh} relatives.
* Wal-Mart actually sold a copy of the Daisy BB rifle this year ('08) for $39. * * Copies of the infamous Leg-Lamp are available in life-size as well as night-lights complete with the fringe lampshade. *
Kudos to Jean Shepard !!
Scent of Mystery (1960)
Hmmm is that fresh coffee?
I was at the premiere in Hollywood (1960) - A first-date thing ......
Didn't know what to expect .. but the pipe tobacco and peach smells (among SEVERAL more) were astounding! Each time you smelled the perfume... you KNEW something bad was going to happen! .....
I don't know how they did it, maybe a hose or fan mounted on the seat in front of you, but when the scene changed, the smell did too !! NEET!
If I remember correctly, the program LISTED all the smells you would encounter during the film as well.
Needless to say, the food smells probably helped the concession stand because the lines were a mile long !!
My date was NOT impressed... (should have made her buy popcorn!)
Too bad, This film followed the 3-D craze and is now gone.
Hot Rod Girl (1956)
Best damn hot-rod movie ever
Filmed in the San Fernando Valley at the time hot-rods and cruisin' Van Nuys Blvd was really happening!
Shots of the San Fernando Drag Strip are priceless to anyone who was there.
Why isn't this availble on VHS?????
Route 66 (1960)
Keep On Truckin'
Still the best of the TV "Road Shows", ... even in re-runs (Nick at Night).
A true inspiration for every generation who never felt the "Mother Road" under their tires.
The Hollywood Knights (1980)
Funniest Hot-Rod movie of the Century !!
Filmed in the San Fernando Valley (centered around a restored A & W Drive-in) Tubby's was a classic copy of our early drive-in heritage. We begged the film company to leave the "Tubby's" there, and several people offered to take it over & actually run it as a real drive-in, but to no avail. Anyway, beg, borrow or steal a copy if you can find it ... you'll laugh till you P---e, well you get the idea ...
