Murdoch Mysteries: The Murdoch Trap (2013)
Glaring inconsistency to resolve the mystery
The final problem to resolve was how James Gillies could have killed Darcy in his home at the same time he was killing Julia's alibi witness in another town miles away. The sensible answer would be that he contrived to kill the alibi at another time. But instead the producers invent a twist by which had the murder weapon fire and kill Darcy automatically when he opened the lid to a victrola playing Julia's voice. This would allow Gillies to be in a different town at the time, but fails to explain how he was seen entering Darcy's house just before the shooting by the next door neighbor, a fact previously explained by Gillies' own admission that he contrived to dress and look like Julia by wearing a latex mask shaped to her face and wearing it into Darcy's house. They undercut the solution to one mystery with the solution to the other one.
Midsomer Murders: The Electric Vendetta (2001)
Fie on the critics of this episode!
In response to Peter Andrews, it was apparent to me from my first viewing that Eddie Fields' body was dumped in a crop circle by his accomplice in burglary and the attempt to melt down the stolen silverware, in the course of which Fields died by electrocution. That accomplice is the same man who would later dump Lloyd Kirby's body in another crop circle, each time for the same purpose - to make it appear like another UFO death, and point blame at the person responsible for the first crop circle body to be discovered.
I really thought the whole storyline, with all its convolutions, was brilliantly conceived. One of my favorite episodes.
