well done!!
Well... I really like this movie! I'm not going to go into the whole "Yay Canada" bit... because, well... we know we make good movies, no need to constantly pat ourselves on the back. Hey, just look at "American Beer"... love that too! Anyway, on to business... this was a great movie... Hugh Dillon is a great actor, as well as an accomplished musician (Headstones rock!!!), and does a great job. He really knows the role... being the lead singer for a band himself... he brought something unique to the role... something a conventional "actor" couldn't have, which I liked.
I must comment on the ending... it completely blew me away... I sat there while the credits began to role wondering what had just happened. That is what makes this movie so great... very few movies can do that for me. Congratulations go to Kevin MacDonald, he did a fine job!!
**** out of *****
Oz (1997)
blown away.....
This is one show that should not be missed by anyone. It is, in fact, extremely explicit and vulgar in many scenes, but that should be over-looked. This show contains some of the best actors I have ever seen on TV...even better than most film actors. It is a brutally honest depiction of what it must be like to be in a maximum-security prison. The characters are all truly engaging, even if they are "bad guys", they all have their own story and do amazing jobs of bringing their characters to life. I love that guy in the wheelchair who does small bits of dialogue throughout each episode. His insights into life are amazing and have made me think on more than one occasion. The only flaw that I can see is that the turn-over rate for some of the inmates is too fast. Some may only be on the show for a few episodes. Apart from that, this show should definitely be seen. 9 out of 10. Amazing show...congratulations to HBO for putting such a great show on the air. Without the freedom of HBO I believe that the show would not be as good.
American Beer (1996)
one word......cool...
One day I was flipping through the channels on my tv and on came this movie, it looked interesting enough so I began to watch. What I saw was one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. The channel I watched it on didnt have any commercials and I sat there watching the movie until the credits finished rolling. I haven't laughed this hard for a long time. The main plot of the story is that there are these 4 Canadian guys (about 20 years old) and they are driving to a beach in America, as they are driving down some deserted highway their car breaks down, they need an alternator. Anyway, after much deliberation, they decide to go their separate ways. Somewhat in the fashion of "Four Rooms", each of the guys has their own little experiences. I won't explain them all, but they are funny as hell, except for one, where one of the guys ends up shooting someone while searching for an alternator in a garage at night. Anyway, it was kinda funny too!! These guys all have their own individual stories and they all meet up at the end at the car and they all have an alternator. It's so damn funny. Problem is, not one person I know has ever seen this film before, I seem to be the only one which is unfortunate because it really is very good. I have never heard of any of the actors before but they all did a great job. Anyway, if anyone ends up reading this, if you are bored one day and looking for a movie to watch that not many people have seen before, search out "American Beer". You will not be disappointed. I give it a 9 out of 10 (not PERFECT, of course)!!!
