Shin seiki Evangelion Gekijô-ban: Air/Magokoro wo, kimi ni (1997)
"I feel terrible" too, Asuka!
I can imagine some pretty bad endings. The "alternate ending" to Army of Darkness, for example, was terrible. End of Evangelion has that beat hands down. It was worse than Knights. It was worse than Beastmaster II. It was so bad, I just wanted to turn it off, but I watched the whole thing just to see if it would get better. It didn't.
I loved Neon Genesis Evangelion the series. It was great - second only to Bubblegum Crisis, in fact. But I just can't forgive such a horrible ending. It was just really, really bad! I can recommend this film only so you can have closure and stop wondering what happens to all the characters.
Shin kaitei gunkan (1995)
Engage the bow drill! Full speed ahead!
I loved Shin Kaitei Gunkan (or "Super Atragon" as it is here in the states). How much cooler can you get than a submersible super-battleship with a big drill on the front, except maybe an 80-foot tall steam-powered tarantula?
The animation was superb, the plot was great, and the action was truly spectacular. I've seen it in both Japanese and English, and as much as I hate dubbing, the dubbed version was actually pretty watchable; plus, how about the musical score, huh? I guess we Poles have something else to contribute after all...
I give Super Atragon an 8 of 10 - a must-see for any fans of Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato.
Incidentally, does anybody besides me remember seeing a live-action version of Kaitei Gunkan? It just seems so familiar...
Big Trouble in Little China (1986)
It's times like these I always remember what Jack Burton used to say...
This is one of those fun movies that I can watch any time it comes on. Kurt Russell was the perfect choice for the role of hero - it just doesn't get any better. The plot was good, the twists and turns and heck, the special effects were OK, too.
Besides, who could forget the movie that inspired Raiden, God of Thunder?
Rupan sansei: Kariosutoro no shiro (1979)
Best animated film ever made
Cagliostro Castle is, quite simply, the best animated film ever made. I love the plot, the humour, the development of Monkey Punch's classic cast of characters...
This is what Hudson Hawk should have been.
