Generalizes Men
25 August 2002
I would hate for women to watch this show and think; "So this is what men are like when us women are not around, how informative."

It also hails women as having it 'more together,' and as being smarter than men, just because these particular men are losers. It also seems that on this show, men can't keep from cheating or almost cheating.

It's just plain sexist in my humble opinion. I feel like the main character is a jackass ambassador speaking on my behalf.

Cheaters (2000 TV Movie)
These Kids Are Annoying. Movie's OK
17 February 2002
This movie has a great story, but the kids don't act anything like real people of that age who live in the area they do. Some of the students I can hardly stand to watch. The movies message is a good one. I feel sorry for those who have not the power stretch the rules a little bit. I myself have that problem, and I would be a lot farther if I had taken more chances. The only reason why it's not always a bad thing NOT going by the book is because other people don't. Being fair isn't always fair for you.

This is a huge insult to high school outcasts everywhere
30 January 2002
A girl looking like Mandy Moore would not get treated at all poorly at all in suburban high school. It's discouraging that the kids with real social problems see movies that are supposed to represent people like them, only to find they cast someone like Moore for the part of the outcast. This contradicts what the messages in these movies are supposedly supposed to be: you shouldn't care what others think of you. It's almost offensive. You don't hire white actors to play African Americans in a movie where they deal with prejudice all the time, so why is it I never see a heavyset girl in roles like this? If it's about the money, why even bother to make a movie like this at all, if you're going to do it wrong? All of you arguing that it shouldn't matter, obviously don't notice the kids that have few friends. I've seen movies with male characters that aren't what society would consider attractive and are odd, or eccentric... but never even see a "dorky" female at the theater. Too bad.

please read this and AT LEAST consider it

Warning: Spoilers
I liked this movie, however I really did think it was a bit on the sexist side. There was not one good man in this movie. I can't think of one movie with good male characters and all the women are jerks (unless they are also movies about heroism or power in an abstract way). So I don't understand those who claim this to be a role reversal. If there IS a movie with good male characters, and all the females are rotten or witchy, I would have a big problem with that too. "The Man Show" is one of my least favorite TV shows on this planet.

This whole "I am woman, hear me roar" doesn't make sense. Could I say something along the lines of "I am man, hear me roar". Women are equal to men so why is it they need to convince themselves threw statements of power? Companies use this to sell products... NIKE comes to mind with, "it's a woman's world" slogan, and people fall for it. I'm sure men would do the same thing in this situation. All I know is when Thelma and/or Louise refers to "men" in a negative light... or even if it's implied, it sort of hurts my feelings because..... I'm a man!?

However, the movie was great! I do think it's good to see two strong female leads who are willing to (spoiler) die for there cause. Women don't tend to get a lot oh hero roles... most men do, yet most men play the villain characters as well. I watched the movie with two smart, wonderful women (smarter than me)... and they hated it! They thought it's message made both men and women look bad. So, just so you know... you don't have to be a man to think it's sexist.

For the sake of my children, if I should just so happen to have a boy, I would want him to be proud of being a man. I wouldn't want him to feel like he was born criminal, or there's something wrong with him. I would also HOPE that if I have a girl, she would feel proud of being a woman. I don't think movie's, TV shows and commercials with a message like the one that's implied in this movie are good for that. Whether it's male or female. However overall, it was a good story.

A Girl Thing (2001 TV Movie)
Where's there a "Guy Thing"?
3 October 2001
This movie was great, acting was wonderful... but it left me with a disturbing thought. I very RARELY see a movie about men that depict them in a fair light. Take HBO's new comedy, "Mind Of The Married Man", it depicts men as being horny and uncontrollably sex crazed. In most of TV sitcoms, men are morons, and their women bail them out. "Family Matters", "Simpsons", "Everybody Loves Raymond", "Malcolm In the Middle", even one of me favorite, "Cosby Show". "The Man Show" might be a funny show, but it doesn't speak for all men. I support the female movement 100%, but maybe it's time there should be a male movement. The TV shows listed are, (for the most part), all fine shows, I just think there should be more TV and Films in the other direction as well.
