Lots of laughs and fun to watch!
13 November 1999
This movie offers an abundance of laughs with Hope as a baby photographer turned detective who is clearly out of his element. Dorothy Lamour is sexy and funny as Bobs love interest. Peter Lorre and Lon Chaney Jr. add the sinister part to the movie and are good straight men for Hopes antics. This type of comedy was popular in the 40's but few could pull it off as well as Hope could. He is, in my opinion, better without a partner such as Bing to bring in the laughs. It is a fun picture to watch.

Good old fashion western just getting beyond the old shoot'em up
7 November 1999
An entertaining movie just over the hump of the 30's shoot'em up westerns, taking on social values as alcoholism, race prejudice, and the basic frailties of man. Most westerns of this time were usually the White hat vs the Black hat and were rather simple. Victor Jory's character is basicly a good guy but had been a hired gun in Mexico and turned into a common drunk due to his conscience. He is saved by Jo Ann Sayers who won't give up on him and leads him on the path of righteousness. You can see from Victor Jory's performance (looks and mannerism's), although good, why he eventually took on the parts of villains. He made a better villain than a hero by just being himself, he had a natural sinister manner which projected on the screen.

They missed the boat on this one!
12 October 1999
With all of the fine acting and actors in this film, I would expect a story line that could be followed fairly easily, without thinking, did I just miss something. I feel that they missed the boat on this one. The relationship between the characters was totally confusing and detracted from the movie. More time is spent trying to unravel the relationship between the characters and what they were up to, rather than being entertained by what I consider to be a potentially excellent film. I have only seen this movie once, maybe it's a three timer before you get the "picture" the way you should the first time.

Mickey Rooney at his comic best!
24 August 1999
My friend and I must have seen this movie at least 5 times back in 53, it just struck us as hilarious. Mickey was at his best as the cocky optimist "Geechy" with his side kick Eddie Bracken as Clopp. Cheevers & Clopp open a gas station and are doing fine but competition opens up across the street, enter Elaine Stewart. A major Gas Company's gas line is under Cheevers and Clopp's station. So they decide to siphon gas from this source to battle the "gas war". This was larceny but not enough to to have a major impact on anyone but their competition. The laughs hardly ever stop as they romp through success and major failures. Rooney and Bracken play off of one another masterfully. Its a fun movie to watch!

Worth watching if you like old cars and humor
27 July 1999
This is a classic non classic. It has a simple plot of Hollywood's "B" movies of the time and is predictable in its outcome from the go. Never the less it is fun to watch, with the old cars and bad stunts and its standard (this type of movie) plot. The acting is almost laughable in some places, but this is what makes this movie so much fun to watch. It truly reminds me of the hundreds of movies i went to as a kid, prior to the arrival of television.
