There is more than one Don Juan
6 January 2006
A must see for all Carlos Castaneda fans. I patiently read through all 23 pages of comments and found only 2 people out of 229 who got a clue what is the movie about. The movie did get a high rating yet 99% of all people seem to be spiritually challenged (in 2001 it was 98%). Very sad state of the world.

Anyway, here is a clue to those who is capable of Seeing. River is a symbol of unconditional love. Note the name of the cemetery - Riverview Cemetery. Also note the name of the street where Don lives, the name of the restaurant where John-ston and Win-ston meet. The movie is full of symbols, it looks like I have to watch it quite a few times before I understand even the half of it. I wonder if Jarmusch himself knows what he created.

Must see... and hear
27 December 2005
If I can not find the rhyme - fine, if I can not find the rhythm - hit me!

It's been a while since I have cried watching movie. And by the end I sobbed like a child who has been told that Santa is not real. Of course, I'm lying just a bit, men do not cry in movies. It takes a woman to bring tears to man's eyes. Yet, I admit, the movie touched me deeply. I have been known to write a verse or two. And timing was suspiciously perfect, I just was looking for the answer, hoping 'Yes' could be the word I'll hear from the Goddess. God answered instead. He did not sound 3.14ssed but neither He was pleased with my quest. At least He was amused, you can bet on that. Let us return back to the movie. Some people, I guess, those who did not expect to hear a lengthy poem, might get upset after an overdose of verse. I pity them but only for a moment, it's all I've got for them, the rest is for my Goddess...

I meant the time, my darling, not the pity. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All the time. OK, I'm sorry, little domestic troubles. I gotta go now. See it for yourselves. And hear too)))

Bye-bye,

Ghost Cat

Collateral (2004)

When the trees are cut down the chips are flying
14 December 2004
Before you watch this movie go to dictionary.com and read the definition of the word "collateral" really well. Especially, if you are not native English speaker. On another hand, let me save you some time while I am here.

col·lat·er·al Pronunciation Key (k-ltr-l) adj.

1. Situated or running side by side; parallel. 2. Coinciding in tendency or effect; concomitant or accompanying. 3. Serving to support or corroborate: collateral evidence. 4. Of a secondary nature; subordinate. 5. Of, relating to, or guaranteed by a security pledged against the performance of an obligation. 6. Having an ancestor in common but descended from a different line.

This movie is much deeper than it seems. It's about the ordinary man who lives ordinary life doing the best he can, as he thinks. He does not expect much from live, just trying to take pride in an ordinary job, driving a cab, filling the missing part with a pathetic dream of his own limo service. The best in town, of course.

And one day the lighting strikes. The love comes but with it a deadly challenge. Suddenly, to call her next day or not is no longer the question. The question is how to survive this night. Too see what helped him to survive. watch very carefully, especially after shootout in a disco. It's easy to miss what caused the switch from the hope to survive to the passion to win.

Mark my words, you'll have a good ride.

At first I was disappointed by sex but then I grew to like it.

When I first saw Kill Bill vol.2 I felt disappointed in my expectations but then I grew to like it and eventually gave it 10 out of 10. Because it is a great movie and because it surprized me and I enjoy being surprized. Life is boring when it is predictable. Not mentioning the movies. Anyway, throw away your expectations when going to see this movie. It is still Kill Bill but the whole different one.

If the first one was 80% action and 20% drama the second one is 80% drama and 20% action. It is not a usual sequel, exploiting the success of the first movie, but a true continuation. The story will get deeper, the characters become more developed. The ending will be what you expect but not the way you were led to believe.

Great, Good & Ugly
5 November 2003
Matrix was a great movie, Matrix 2 was good if not very good, Matrix 3 is plain ugly. It is shallow, sloppy and lame. They reused every special effect, every line of the script and did not even bother to add anything new.

I am pretty sure that everyone who watched the first two movies will watch the third one to find out how it will all ends. Well, it does not really end. It looses its breath before the finish line and nothing really gets resolved. No questions will be answered. You'll leave the theater with mixed feeling, on one hand you kind of wish for the fourth installment to resolve the unresolved, on the other hand you will feel no desire to see Matrix 4 or any other movie made by the brothers for a long time.

Scary Movie (2000)
What a loss for porno industry.
15 July 2000
I'm afraid it is the last movie made by the bros. Most likely they will be slapped by law suits from everywhere. A lot of unsuspecting parents brought their kids to see the movie and you can bet that some of them were very upset. Keeping the millions they made with this movie may prove to be the mission impossible.

On a bright side if the bros become penniless they might start shooting adult movies. Personally I would greatly benefit from it because I sell porno for living and I would love to have something else to say other than "you saw one - you saw them all" when my customers ask me if the movie is good.

If they ask me about "Scary Movie" I would say that it is quite good. I give it 6 inches out of 10 :-)

Definitely the best Mickey Rourke film
7 August 1999
It is a mystery for me how the great movies sometimes fall through the cracks. I don't expect it to be everyone's favorite but being completely missed by almost everybody? It puzzles me. If you up for a tough and disturbing movie tonight rent it. You won't be disappointed.
