I Dream of Ginger (1985 Video)
Very good, but wish it had been shot on film.
29 June 2004
The best scene, and most unusual for this type of film, is the one in which Ginger has Paul Thomas bound, wrists and ankles, spread-eagled on a bed. She teases, slightly tickles and milks him into a frenzy. Highly erotic!

Other than that, I don't recall a good deal of interesting action. The video quality of this adult comedy is not adequate. It would have played out far better on film. Typically, anything with Ginger, Lisa Deluuwe and Paul Thomas ranked fairly better that most standard adult films, but again , the video quality is below standard. Video became cheaper and faster, unfortunately.

Ginger's best scenes typically occurred with actor Marc Wallice. The two of them seemed made for each other. He is missing from this story, but Paul Thomas fills in quite well. A good actor, given the adult film industry. Ranks right up there with Mike Horner, Scott Irish, Eric Edwards, Harry Reems, and Robert Bullock.

Of course, Ginger shines in just about anything she does. And that makes this worth the while.

Star! (1968)
London, Broadway, the South of France, Julie Andrews
30 May 2003
Yes, the story is somewhat thin. But Julie's performance, the music, the backstage scenes, the glamorous locales, the automobiles, the stage -- fill in where plot is lacking. This is, after all, a docu-musical that is, from what I know, a more literal rendering of Gertrude Lawrence's razzle-dazzle lifestyle, than a falsification of what actually happened. Robert Wise has said, to paraphrase him, that this is the one film he wished he could have done something else with. I personally would have included more scenes of Gertie being interviewed as she watched her life on the black & white tinny newsreels, and thus it may have bracketed her full color TODD-AO widescreen recollections. It might have drawn us more into her point-of-view. Still, the stage numbers, locales, party scenes (drunken one or two may have been) are fun to watch and experience. Script aside, the film is very well crafted, indeed.

For 1957, pretty funny, and even a bit risque.

Most Stooges fans shrug off the shorts that were done after Curly Howard's departure from the trio. But Joe Besser, who replaced Shemp Howard, after Shemp stepped in for Curly, is not bad at all. He's got his own unique mannerisms, almost effeminate or childish, but not overbearing. The idea of three Amazons overpowering the guys in this film and then tying them up and tickling their bare feet was pretty far out stuff for the Stooges! It was done innocently enough, but the Amazons were out to tickle the boys to death, then eat them! Could've been entitled the "Femdoms Attack the Three Stooges." There is an overpowering sexual overtone here that can't be denied. Aggressive women with the men as sex objects, albeit the Three Stooges! But beyond that, the short has got some typical Stooge slapstick and dialog that keeps it amusing and makes one glad that the group didn't retire too early. Give it a chance!
