A bad joke
25 November 2000
The entire movie is perfected trash science fiction. A scifi geeks dream? Certainly. Combining cliche outerspace alien-bug battles with hyped publicty and the latest computer generated copout images, what more do you need? Still, it should've remained a made for tv movie like the rest of the desperately unoriginal programs which seem to be so popular right now.

Good effort, ending fails to deliver
9 August 2000
Over all, this adaptation didn't live up to the book. There were some great moments and some superb acting jobs (Nick Nolte played a fabulous cross dresser and Bruce Willis was a perfect Dwayne Hoover), but the ending especially lacked the excellent writing of the book, and seemed to be just that; a way to end the film. I can easily appreciate the negative opinion expressed by a person who hasn't read the book. It's like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in that respect. Neither films nor books are mainstream enough for the average viewer these days, who want movies that involve as little thinking as possible. Moving on to the fantastic conclusion, Breakfast of Champions is a film of substance, but lacks a worthy ending.

X-Men (2000)

Surprised like everyone else
26 July 2000
X Men was surprisingly a quality film, though top 250 of all time it is not. Hyped up is the term that comes to mind. Great special effects, true to the original comic book for the most part, and some great acting. It was painfully obvious however that a good chuck of the film was setting up for sequels to come, a process done less blatantly in the past with such greats as Star Wars, and The God Father. Don't get me wrong, it was a very entertaining show with content, but for peters sake let the general audience digest the first before stuffing seconds in their face.

Python great as always, though some of best sketches left incomplete.
23 July 2000
A decent compilation of python sketches, and according to the host Steve Martin, some clips never before seen. Rather disapointing however, some of the funniest sketches are noticably cut short, leaving out the punch line. Great introduction sampler for folks who are less familiar with the comedy groups Flying Circus matereal, but fanatic devotees might be somewhat distraught with sketches being trimmed. Final television appearance of the entire python team together shown briefly at the end of the film, which is a shame and a poor final tribute due to Graham Chapman dying soon there after.

Tim Burton's Best
7 December 1999
I was absolutely stunned by SLEEPY HOLLOW. Tim Burton finally gave in and put his talents to use in the "R" category. He combines the grotesque images of a great horror film, and the dark beauty common to all of his efforts. Danny Elfman adds his musical talent once again, adding to and intensifying every moment of the film. Perfect example of melodrama. Great movie for the those who can take the gore.
