Turkey Time
1 May 2024
"Amityville Turkey Day" serves up a deliciously twisted sequel to its predecessor, "Amityville Thanksgiving," courtesy of director and writer Will Collazo. This time, a demonic turkey wreaks havoc on the set of an indie horror film, turning Thanksgiving dinner into a nightmare. As the plot delves into the mysteries surrounding Frank Domonico (Mark C Fullhardt), and a leaked tape exposing his misdeeds, the film within a film concept adds layers of intrigue. With sleazy filmmaker Rocco at the helm, supported by a quirky crew including his mom, the chaos unfolds swiftly after the delivery of a mysterious package. What sets this film apart is its commitment to fun, with witty dialogue delivered impeccably by a dedicated cast. "Amityville Turkey Day" revels in its own absurdity, making it a delightfully entertaining watch that doesn't take itself too seriously. With a stellar ensemble cast and inventive storytelling, this sequel is a must-watch for horror aficionados craving a unique spin on the genre.

Stand out performances by David Rodriguez in his acting debut. Had me pissing my pants. Also note amazing performances from David Perry and one of the best performances I have seen from Tim Hatch.

Really fun dialogue delivered flawlessly by the dedicated actors make this really fun to watch. What makes this fun is it doesn't take it self seriously and has fun with it.

Stay for the end credits Alot of pop up Cameos including me.

Mom n Pop Video Store Memories
6 April 2024
Writer/ Director Bobby Canipe Jr. Brought a tear to my eye after Watching 'Mom n' Pop: The Indie Video Store Boom of the 80s/90s' . Wow it brought back tons of memories for me.

I fondly recall my teenage years spent working at Park Video, a small-town video store where I indulged in my love for horror movies while getting paid. It was truly the best job I ever had. Now, Bobby Canipe Jr's documentary offers a nostalgic journey back to the glory days of neighborhood video shops when they reigned supreme. For those longing for the days of browsing aisles of VHS tapes, the documentary hits all the right notes. It vividly captures the creepy separate section for horror films, tucked away in the back next to the adult section.

Ah, those were the days! Canipe explores the history and culture of video stores with a heartfelt appreciation, covering the rise and fall of independent video rental businesses exactly as I remember it. The film celebrates the unsung heroes who made movies accessible to small-town America. I vividly remember the joy of discovering new films and the thrill of renting them for a few days. 'Mom n' Pop' is a beautiful tribute to such an important part of cinema history.

Reliving this era with fellow filmmakers like Lloyd Kaufman, Tim Ritter, and Paul Petroskey is a joy. Their insights into the impact of video stores on American film are brilliant. Canipe has crafted a documentary that transports viewers back to a magical period where phrases like 'Be Kind Rewind' brought back so many memories.

This Skeleton is out for blood
12 February 2024
Director Asif Akbar masterfully crafts the chilling horror film "Skeleton in the Closet," delivering an atmospheric and genuinely creepy experience that lingers long after the credits roll. The movie skillfully weaves a tale where the haunting message of a life for a life resonates throughout. Valery M. Ortiz portrays a mother haunted by an evil spirit, determined to go to any lengths to save her daughter, superbly played by Appy Pratt. The seemingly idyllic family, also featuring the excellent performances of Terrence Howard as Mark and Valentina (Valery M. Ortiz), faces the harsh reality of cancer's return in the form of wicked brain cancer after a brief remission. The narrative intensifies as Mark's insurance denies coverage for life-saving chemotherapy, pushing the family into a series of unfortunate events on the same day as Jenny's cancer diagnosis, from a deceased family fish to job loss and mounting debts to the mob.

Cubin Gooding Jr. Adds depth as Mark's brother Andres, introducing the audience to a psychic portrayed by Sally Kirkland, leading to the brilliantly portrayed character Luc, played by Udo Kier. The escalating self-destruction and bad decisions, driven by the desperate love for their daughter, unfold in a riveting manner. The film successfully combines a well-layered story with outstanding performances from the talented cast, including veterans Sally and Udo. Asif Akbar's direction is commendable, creating tension and scares throughout the film. In a genre saturated with quick teen slashers, "Skeleton in the Closet" stands out as a refreshing and genuinely frightening horror movie. The carefully lensed scenes, complemented by great sound and lighting, enhance the overall cinematic experience. Terrence Howard, Valery M. Ortiz, Appy Pratt, and Cubin Gooding Jr. Form a cohesive family dynamic, while the supporting cast contributes to the seamless flow of the narrative. Asif's directorial prowess, coupled with the stellar performances, makes "Skeleton in the Closet" a must-watch for horror enthusiasts seeking a well-crafted and spine-chilling cinematic experience.

Dariuss (2023)

Brilliant Bold Filmmaking
9 December 2023
The Writer/Director Guerrilla Metropolitana brings us "Dariuss". Guerilla makes a bold return to the movie scene with a controversial feature film that challenges viewers from the very start. As the film unfolds, you are confronted with a profound question: "The most important questions... are the unanswered ones." This thought-provoking beginning sets the stage for a visually stunning work of art that demands an open mind and an appreciation for the risks the Director has taken. From the opening scene, you're captivated, never quite knowing what unprecedented experiences will unfold. This film requires your full attention, immersing you in a unique world created through guerrilla filmmaking, reminiscent of a Blair Witch style, although the similarities end there. The narrative skillfully explores how a family copes with the loss of a loved one, depicting each member's individual responses. The choice of a remote, off-the-beaten-path house adds to the story's impact. The film powerfully illustrates how one death can shatter individuals in ways you've never witnessed before. The editing creates a nightmarish atmosphere that's impossible to escape, with moments of blood and explicit scenes that serve to emphasize the family's profound devastation. While not for everyone, this film is a must-see for true movie enthusiasts seeking something truly different.

Bloodthirst (2023)

Thirsty for Blood! You won't be disappointed! Another Mahal classic
31 October 2023
"Bloodthirst," directed by Michael Su, is a refreshing addition to the vampire genre. Set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by super vampires, the film follows John Shepard, a Vampire Hunter portrayed by Costas Mandylor, on his quest to eliminate the master vampire, played by Robert LaSardo, before succumbing to vampirism himself. Alongside him are a diverse group of characters, including the Vampire Queen, Tara Reid , and a team of rebels known as the Malicia.

The film's strength lies in its well-structured story, penned by Massimiliano Cerchi and Adrian Milnes, which keeps the audience engaged from start to finish. The characters are likable and well-developed, and the plot is filled with twists, betrayals, and intense action sequences. The chemistry between Robert LaSardo and Tara Reid as the vampire leaders adds depth to their characters and makes their scenes memorable.

On the hero side, Costas Mandylor and Sarah French along with her sister played by Elissa Dowling deliver powerful performances, portraying convincing badasses determined to rid the world of the master vampire. The film successfully balances its characters, providing ample room for each to shine. Special shout out to 2 of the many stand out performances but left a lasting impression on me where Charlie (Johnny Huang) and the bad ass Rico (Rich R. Rendon).

What sets "Bloodthirst" apart is its ability to create a compelling atmosphere of fear while delivering a unique take on the vampire genre. It offers a cool villain, plenty of blood, and a satisfying payoff, hitting all the marks expected from a vampire movie.

In the hands of director Michael Su, the film manages to be both fun and engaging, keeping the audience hooked throughout. The promise of a sequel in the credits is exciting news for fans, as "Bloodthirst" leaves us craving more of its post-apocalyptic vampire world. Bravo to Michael Su for delivering a captivating and promising addition to the genre.

Terror in the Woods
21 October 2023
Director Willy Adkins brings us "The Greenies," a thrilling short film. When two adventurous, bored teenagers venture into the woods in search of the local legend known as the Greenies, they soon realize that the truth is far more terrifying than the myth itself. Despite its short 10-minute duration, "The Greenies" plays out like a full-length movie, thanks to its two young leads who impressively convey their characters' emotions through a well-written script. The film's beautifully photographed forest scenes create an atmosphere of fear, making you believe that these Greenies could appear at any moment. The carefully lensed action immediately draws you in. The climax is riveting, and watch closely for a cameo by filmmaker Derek Braasch, who leaves a lasting impression. This performance has us eagerly calling his agent for a lead role in our next feature. Make sure to stay for a cool after-credits scene. "The Greenies" is highly recommended for its all-around entertainment, and with a runtime of just 10 minutes, it's a must-watch. Directed by Willy Adkins and starring Patrick Mallin, Katelyn Lane, Mykal Rodriguez, Lily Tomei, and Derek Braasch.

Adrenaline goes in high gear quickly ...
18 September 2023

"Adrenaline," the latest creation from director Massimiliano Cerchi, and writers Cerchi & Adrian Milnes is a high-octane thrill ride that proves Cerchi's prowess in keeping audiences on the edge of their seats.

The film introduces us to FBI Agent Victoria Travers, portrayed with unwavering determination by Constance Payne. Travers is a female Dirty Harry who prefers to do things her way, often ruffling the feathers of her superiors, including Lockwood, played by Costas Mandylor. After a daring bust that once again leaves her at odds with her boss, she begrudgingly takes a vacation in Romania with her husband Steve, portrayed by James Stokes, and their daughter Juliette, played by Alma Petra Vago.

But trouble follows Travers wherever she goes, and her keen eye spots the notorious criminal John Slater, portrayed by Louis Mandylor, as soon as she arrives. Without hesitation, she takes matters into her own hands, smuggling Slater into Bulgaria for extradition. However, this audacious move results in tragedy, with her husband killed and her daughter sold to organ harvesters. Now, Travers has no one to turn to except Slater as she embarks on a perilous mission to rescue her daughter.

"Adrenaline" lives up to its name as it spirals into a whirlwind of action and suspense. Massimiliano Cerchi's signature storytelling shines through once again, offering a fresh and exhilarating narrative. The film is expertly edited and directed, ensuring a seamless and engaging viewing experience.

Constance Payne's portrayal of Agent Travers is a standout, showcasing her talent and charisma. Her chemistry with Louis Mandylor, as the unlikely pairing of heroes, adds depth to the film's dynamic. Payne's performance under Cerchi's skillful direction is commendable, making her a rising star in the industry.

In summary, "Adrenaline" is a total win, delivering a thrilling and unforgettable cinematic experience. Massimiliano Cerchi's films consistently break away from clichés and provide original, well-executed stories. This movie is no exception, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a fun and action-packed thriller that keeps you hooked from start to finish. Cerchi's ability to breathe life into his characters with authenticity makes "Adrenaline" a must-see.

Action from start to finish. Great way to end the summer!
30 August 2023
"MR-9: Do or Die" centers around the enigmatic MASUD RANA aka MR-9 skillfully portrayed by ABM Sumon. The movie takes its inspiration from the 1966 novel "Dhongsho Pahar," which marks the inception of the beloved spy series from Bangladesh.

The film delves into the intricate world of espionage as MASUD RANA, a battle-hardened agent for the BCI, joins forces with an elite ensemble of international espionage experts, including charismatic CIA operatives Duke (Michael Jai White) and Taylor (Niko Foster), along with the cunning Indian spy Devi (Sakshi Pradhan).

As time slips away, the team engages in a high-stakes race against the clock to prevent an imminent international terrorist attack targeting Las Vegas. Orchestrated by the enigmatic RNR organization and headed by the evil Roman Ross (Frank Grillo), the sinister plot unveils itself. The stakes soar as they confront a villain fueled by audacious ambitions to reshape the very foundation of the global order, intensifying the suspense and tension to remarkable levels.

Despite its extended duration, the film's pacing mirrors the swiftness of the action, ensuring that time seems to fly by for the audience. Beautifully shot and paced, this film moves swiftly, treating the audience to visuals that will leave them awe-struck. The cinematography, along with a great soundtrack and precise editing, showcases the talent behind bringing this epic novel to the screen. The casting played a crucial role, with Abm Sumon embodying the hero Masud Rana and super villain Frank Grillo as Roman Ross, evoking a sense of classic cinema. To truly experience the film's full impact, I strongly recommend watching it on the big screen. Witnessing every fight, explosion, and meticulous detail on display enhances the beauty of this adaptation, unfolding right before your eyes.

Bangladesh-born director Asif Akbar was undoubtedly the best choice, having grown up following the adventures in book form and dreaming of one day bringing them to life in grand fashion. He and his team have accomplished that with utter respect for the adaptation of this classic series. A sequel is hinted at the end, which I eagerly anticipate.

In closing, Watching MASUD RANA transported me back to my childhood, where films like the Bond series held an irresistible charm, capturing my undivided attention and offering an escape into sheer delight. The experience of MASUD RANA rekindled those nostalgic emotions, reminding me of a time when watching movies was a source of unadulterated fun, allowing you to wholeheartedly cheer for a genuine hero.

The effort to bring this adaptation to life extended over numerous years, culminating in a treatment that would undoubtedly have garnered pride from its author, Qazi Anwar Hussain. This collaborative US-Bangladesh production was shot across the vibrant landscapes of Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Dhaka. The roster of producers includes Al Bravo, Hemdee Kiwanuka, Colin Bates, Asif Akbar, Philip Tan, and Abdul Aziz. Serving as executive producers are Niko Foster, Peter Nguyen, and Phillip B. Goldfine. The screenplay was skillfully adapted from the "Dhonghsho Pahar" novel, a part of the Masud Rana series, by Asif Akbar, Abdul Aziz, and Nazim Ud Daula. Helmed with finesse by director Asif Akbar, the film showcases a stellar ensemble cast, promising an immersive and captivating cinematic journey for its audience.

Surprising many, the franchise has evolved from its 2000 origins into a cult classic with numerous spin-offs and sequels. The Mistress Has Arrived!
25 August 2023
Director Marcel Walz brings us "That's a Wrap," a Giallo-inspired film that defies the notion that the end of summer is a cinematic dumping ground. Creepy and eccentric Director Mason Maestro completes what he believes to be one of his best movies and hosts a grand premiere for "That's a Wrap." As the cast gathers to celebrate, the horror takes a horrifying twist when the slasher character, the Mistress, transcends the screen and turns the event into a real-life slasher scenario. The film expertly melds suspense and tribute, delivering captivating scenes with meticulous attention to atmosphere, direction, writing, cinematography, and more. The cast, led by Monique Parent and Sarah French, injects humor and authenticity into their roles, while actress Eve Marlowe is in a delightful homage to Hitchcock's Psycho adds intensity.

The movie's patient crafting of each scene enhances its suspenseful impact, and the practical old school slasher FX by Joe Castro and his team maintain the tension without excessive CGI. Sarah French's performance stands out, exemplifying her prowess in the industry, and the film pays homage to Giallo, Hitchcock, and Brian De Palma, showcasing Marcel Walz's unique directorial style. "That's a Wrap" is a visually exhilarating experience that fearlessly satirizes the industry and the dynamics behind the camera.

Get ready for drugs, sex, and big hair. A true delight.
10 July 2023

Good fun for the Summer
2 July 2023
"The Unseen, directed by Vincent Shade, offers a supernatural horror experience that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. RJ Mitte delivers a compelling performance as Tommy Olson, a law student haunted by dark forces. Kudos to Jennifer A. Goodman for her remarkable work as the writer, star, and producer of the movie.

The film lays out Tommy's struggle with his past and the pressure of living up to his father's legacy. RJ Mitte's portrayal of Tommy's emotional turmoil is captivating, and viewers can't help but sympathize with his character. The chemistry between Tommy and Olivia, played by Kimberly Michelle Vaughn, adds a touch of romance amidst the chaos.

I found the clever twist about Tommy's scary blackouts and the string of murders kept me guessing till the end.

Overall, "The Unseen" really displays Vincent Shade's promising directorial debut and provides a chilling supernatural horror experience. RJ Mitte's performance, supported by Jennifer A. Goodman's multifaceted involvement, adds depth to the film. Great chemistry, direction and a solid story made this movie standout from a slew of the same type of movies popping out so frequently.

Throwback to the action movies of the 80's
3 June 2023
"Mojave Diamonds," directed by Asif Akbar, is a fast-paced action thriller that takes viewers on a gripping journey. The film centers around Roy Mason (Cerrone), a former MMA fighter who finds himself in trouble with the Vegas mob. After losing a high-stakes fight and costing mob boss Julian (Jackson) a significant amount of money, Roy's life takes a dangerous turn.

To repay his debt, Roy agrees to transport a $50 million shipment of diamonds to Mexico, accompanied by his G. I. brother Danny (Chris Maher). However, when a rival gang steals the diamonds and abducts their younger brother Joe's (Sonnen) family in retaliation, the three siblings must unite and infiltrate the mob compound to save their loved ones, regardless of the risks involved.

The film showcases Cerrone's portrayal of Roy, a down-and-out character who competes in illegal MMA fights and struggles with personal demons. His performance effectively captures the character's desperation and determination to set things right. The tension escalates as Julian's menacing presence looms over Roy's every move, further heightening the stakes.

The family dynamics between Roy, Danny, and Joe add an emotional layer to the storyline. The strained relationship between Roy and Joe, coupled with the threat to Joe's family, adds complexity and gives the audience a reason to invest in the characters' struggles.

Director Asif Akbar's vision shines through the well-executed action sequences and suspenseful moments. The cinematography by Jan-Michael Losada enhances the film's gritty atmosphere, immersing viewers in the dangerous world the characters inhabit. Richard John Baker's music effectively complements the film's pace, intensifying key moments.

This is Hell
24 April 2023
A low budget romp through Doomsday. Very well made and all 4 stories that comprise this movie are shot well and fun to watch. Each one tells of the days leading up to the destruction of the earth through an airborne virus called Meanies.

A host tell stories of the old world from a book he found from a survivor who meets her end.

Very fun locations and effects really help keep your interest. While this is low budget all the actors do well with the scripts provided.

This is based on a movie called Hell on Earth: Arena of Death made over 30 years ago.

I did not want it to end and hope a sequel is being planned.

Space Wars is a fun ride through space and beyond!
22 April 2023
Director Garo Setian brings us the galactic "Space Wars: Quest For The Deepstar". It's a fun fast paced adventure through space featuring an all star cast having fun with their roles. Leading the cast is Michael Pare and joined by Sarah French, Anahit Setian, Tyler Gallant, Olivier Gruner, Rachele Brooke Smith, Sadie Katz, Jed Rowen and Elise Muller.

The movie introduces us to Kip in a fun opening with villains and monsters. Kip is being tried for crimes and threatened certain death. He is rescued by his daughter in the Nick of time. We know the fun is about to take off. His daughter Taylor smiles and says "Get ready for a good ole fashion adventure". That involves finding a very beneficial treasure that will make them a lot of money. They remind me of a sort of Chewie and Han from Star Wars playing bad ass scavengers.

We also have a side story about Kips deceased wife. He carries her around in liquid form in what is called Essence.

Villainous Elanora (Sadie Katz) is also hot on their trail trying to retrieve a coin Kip accidentally stole. He didn't know it was Elanora dead sister. She will stop at nothing to get it back. We find out Elnora used to be Kip's former hire. There meetings turn to be crazy all out battles and she is determined to stop and destory Kip at any cost. Kip tries and tries to try to make things rite but Elnora is not going to have it and doesn't stop.

Things complicate even more when a stowaway is found on Kip and Taylor ship. Turns out her name is Jackie (Anahit Setian). Jackie is a scientist who has the location of a ship called Deepstar. Deepstar has the ability to bring essence back to life. That has Kip and Taylor interested. But Dykstra (Olivier Gruner) is a ruthless mercenary determined to find out the location of the Deepstar and is seeking out Jackie. Dykstra crew consists of Nina (Rachele Brooke)Smith and Wade (Tyler Gallant). Two very colorful fun characters.

But now that Kip & Taylor are part of this race we have big problems. All this sets up a really fun galactic adventure that we haven't seen for a long time. A movie that is a simple set up but beautifully acting and directed.

What starts off at just a bunch of scavengers trying to get some money any way they can. Then turns into a pretty heartwarming story of a father and daughter racing to possibly bring their wife/mother to life. It certainly is not what I expected but actually enjoyed.

Sarah French and Michael Pare are casted perfectly as Father and Daughter. They have great chemistry and look forward to every scene with them.

Anahit Setian as Jackie the scientist was hilarious, I loved her. What a great performance and really was a part she put everything into it to make it work.

Sadie Katz and Michael Pare constant conflicts were a lil over the top but I looked forward to the craziness they are put through every time they meet.

Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar is a fun script excellently directed by Garon Setain. Casting was perfect and everyone did a great job. For a low budget sci fi movie it was well done and worth looking at more than once to enjoy everything.

Summer came early and this popcorn fun movie is perfect for those care free enjoyable nights ahead of us.

First time Director Tony Schiena scores with this action packed film
18 February 2023
Director Tony Schiena brings us the action packed "The Weapon".

Dallas is a one-man killing machine on a mysterious rampage. His attacks on biker gangs and meth labs anger the Vegas mob boss who's holding Dallas's girlfriend hostage. But who is Dallas working for? Even torture won't make him talk...and he won't stop until justice is served.

Tony Schiena directorial debut and also stars in this as former special forces agent Dallas. We are introduced to his character through flashbacks of of a daring violent rescue of a women that was kidnapped and forced into a sex trafficking ring. His encounter is with a insane ruthless violent motorcycle gang. The depiction is terrifying and well shot and acted out by all involved to give an authentic feel of the situation.

We have so much going on here we have iconic Cubin Gooding Jr and things get really deep as Dallas takes on Biker gangs, cartels and the guy who is organizing this whole encounter Lars played by the always welcome Richard Grieco. Who by the way kidnapped Dallas girlfriend the beautiful and talented Anna Lynne McCord. My buddy Shannon Ritch has a fun scene as Sully, wish it could of been more. James Chalke a great actor has a very memorable performance. Check out the exclusive clip below.

What we have is a set up that just explodes with action and some of the best fight scenes choreographed that I have scene in awhile. It's such a breath of fresh air to see a movie with such adrenaline and constructed scenes.

There is such a great ensemble of actors here you don't want it to end. Tony Schiena had a challenge here on his first project. But he had a great team and it all panned out.

Director/co-writer Tyler Atkins brings us Ocean Boy. In his directional debut he scores big. Casting has a lot do with this. And Rasmus King also debuts with this film. This young actor is amazing and a joy to watch. He is a natural and he really becomes the character of Rockit.

The movie starts off telling us that it's inspired by true events. How much is true is unknown but it's a very well made movie that has you feeling for the characters. Knowing that it supposedly based on true events make it even more entertaining.

The story is about a father named Bosch (Luke Hemsworth) and son running from the law. The son has no idea what's going on and just think him and his dad are having a blast surfing in exotic Byron Bay.

The reason they are on the run is that the dad is a marajuana harvester and dealer. He is protected and not bothered by the cops so life is good. Until a detective (Martin Sacks) wants more for himself. He got some columbine high grade coke from a busted dealer and wants Bosch to sell it.

He tries not not get involved but has no choice. And out of control brush fire is heading to the farm and in his haste to get all his belongings out he destroys the coke by accident in a ceiling fan mishap.

So he grabs his sun promising a really cool surf vacation . Rockit lives and breathers surf and asks no questions.

He finds love (Savannah La Rain) and happiness getting to spend so much time with his dad surfing. But when things start closing in on him he panics and thinks it's better to take his son to live with his mom (Leeanna Walsman).

The whole cast is fun to watch and make a very fun movie on what could have been a very dark subject. Hemsworth nails the part and really has a heart and a great dad but in a bad situation.

Cinematography by Ben Nott and Shane Fletcher are worth mentioning. When you're in an exotic location you need to utilize and take advantage of it. These guys on land sea achieve that and is well noted.

Atkin and Drue Metz screenplay is really good but couldn't have been played out better than this great cast.

Monsters in the tropics...need I say more.
23 January 2023
The Mahal Brothers bring us another very ambitious fun monster movie called "Bermuda Island ". Shot on location in Puerto Rico this beautifully directed movie by Adam Werth will help you escape the winter blues.

The movie opens up with an excited arrest of a dangerous ruthless arms dealer. Diego (Noel Gugliemi) Is being extradited to Puerto Rico along with a plane full of excited vacationers. What is a set up of a modern day Airport movie crossed with The Island of Dr. Moreau but with so much more.

After a delay at the airport and a cool likable well written and amusing introduction to our cast, we are in the air. Not long into flight our travelers are plunged into a freak storm. Diego doesn't want to be jailed and has a cool gunfight onboard leading to the beginning of carnage that just gets more involved as we continue.

The plane goes down in the ocean killing all but a few lucky survivors. They make there way to the island that first appears to be a paradise.

Our main characters Carolyn (Sarah French), Damon (Victor V. Gelsomino) and psycho FBI agent Victor Sweden (Wesley Cannon) quickly take charge.

An unrecognizable Greg Tally plays Midnight. He is truly hilarious in his deliveries and is a part very different than anything he has done. Very memorable and so enjoyable. Great job.

After getting to know who is left and exploring the island the action picks up quickly and doesn't stop. Again great actors and direction take over for the carnage that is thrown at us. Our monsters who roam and rule the island are out to kill on site. A bloody encounter leaves more than half the group that survived the crash ripped, slashed, disemboweled and every imaginable act of ferociousness from a monster you can imagine. The blood is poured out and good ole splatter FX are presented along with cool scary monsters. These have to be some of the best looking creatures in a long time. Shot perfectly in the dark you see enough to fear and enough to keep you guessing what the heck is happening.

As the chaos has broke out and everyone is trying to either figure out or survive a mysterious guy comes out of the woods to help. We learn his name is Bruce (John Wells). Bruce is a surviving soldier that saw his whole group slaughtered by these monsters. He is part of this group now and explains how to build shelters and how they only come out at night. They are scared of fire so they also build torches.

FBI agent Sweden quickly doesn't like that Carolyn and Damon are getting all the attention split the group up and takes out on there own.

Each group start practicing and learning survival skills but they also keep losing members. Dwindling their numbers and ability to fight back and survive.

Meanwhile to step away from the blood and carnage and feelings of doom. Our hero's Carolyn and Damon sneak off and come across a utopia of sorts snuggled in the woods. A beautiful waterfall and swimming hole invite a lil skinny dipping to ease off some pressure. But like everything else it too is interrupted and more death occurs in the Process.

These 2 groups seem to be getting a hold on things and fighting back but things in these type of movies always take a bad turn. Not everything is as we would like and things turn quickly for the worse. A Bloody finally will leave you exhausted and totally surprised at the outcome.

Be on the lookout for horror icon Kimberly Lynn Cole in another kick ass bloody moment.

Another win here for the Mahal brothers. I mean how can you go wrong shooting in paradise and with such a fun cast and story. Everyone here did so well and was a joy to watch Sherry Davis as Peggy is memorable and had me laughing. Shooting on location is always a task but this movie seems to have had no issues and pulled it off. A special cheers to the whole cast & crew. How hard is it to light a night scene and it was pulled off here perfectly. The monsters were perfectly captured and all the action played out well. You have a little of everything and more that fans of this genre are looking for.

I was blown away by Night of the Tommyknockers and said how can they do better? Well here it is. Highly recommended and worth a look or 2.

The Old Way (2023)

Nic does a modern Day Eastwood and wins
16 January 2023
Director Brett Donowho and writer Carl W. Lucas brings us "The Old Way".

Things start off with a typical spaghetti like western opening with a hanging. But a very violent escape attempt leaves many dead lining the streets. When the smoke clears a young boy Jimmy McCallister is seen mourning the death of his father among the carnage. All brought on by Colton Briggs (Nicolas Cage) who was a hired gunslinger who was brought on to this task that led to his fathers death.

Now 20 years later, Colton is retired. He lives in a small cabin with his wife Ruth (Kerry Knuppe), and daughter, Brooke (Ryan Kiera Armstrong). He manages a small town store and leaves his violent past in the past.

Their happiness is captured with stunning cinematography in the mountains of Montana. The scenery lays well matched with the easy laid back scenery soundtrack.

This tranquility and happiness comes to a screeching hault quickly. A now grownup and outlaw James McCallister (Noah Le Gros),is bent on revenge. He returns wanting to settle the score with Colton. He and his gang bring trouble and death to the Briggs family. This occurs as Colton and his daughter are at the shop. Colton is unaware that his wife is being terrorized and eventually brutally killed back home.

When Colton finds out what happened and who is responsible, him and his daughter are bent on revenge.

I really like the twist of father daughter revenge and the young lady who portrays Colton's daughter is amazing. What could have Been your typical shot up revenge flick, brings more depth and compassion done like this.

You will be rooting for the Briggs family to avenge their moms death.

I found the performances and well written story a breath of fresh air compared to what we been getting. A good ole fashion western with one of my favorite actors worked well. I just also noticed this was Cages first western. He did well and hope to see more in this genre from him.

Everything worked well but my favorite performance was from legendary Clint Howard. He plays an older member of the ruthless McCallister gang. They treat him badly and have no respect or care really about him. He is the smartest and fears Colton knowing his past. We look forward to all his appearances and wish we had more. He was a delight and fun to watch as always.

Western Horror done Rite
25 November 2022
It's always exciting when I get a screener from The Mahal brothers for a review. Yeah it's a honor and thrill. When I saw it was "Night of the Tommyknockers" I was beyond excited.

One of my favorite directors Michael Su of the genre, takes the helm. After seeing him do such a great job with "Death Count" I couldn't wait to get this going.

This is the old west like you never saw before. You have the good guys, the bad guys and ancient monsters in the mix. It opens up with a group of miners blasting in mines searching for gold. One of the miners respecting legends with Irish descent tells of the leprechauns and there gold then speak of the legendary Tommyknockers. He claims this blasting will release the monsters and take back there gold if stolen from them. Not fearing these creatures the miners are blinded by the gold but soon violently meet there deaths and release these creatures. The little town of Deer Creek, Nevada are terrorized by not only these creatures but also a fleeing gang are set in robbing the town bank. We also have legendary Tom Sizemore play Marshall Steed, thrown in to make things even more exciting.

Beautifully directed from a very well Written story. The movie grasps you by the neck from the claustrophobic opening and excellent set up to an explosive satisfying end.

The pairing up of Bj Mezek and Jessica Morris is really great casting. They really worked off each other and made a great team of all the craziness. They were so fun and believable would love to see there saga continue.

But not to be forgotten and equally paired on the other side of the law is Richard Grieco and Angela Cole. Angela Cole is a little firecracker and can have sale her own among the ruthless robbers led by Grieco. Along with Robert Lasardo as a character named Lucky. Once again his craziness scores big fun. Greed and double crossing are often disturbed by our creepy creatures from hell. With the three main storylines set up we just can't help but sit back and turn up the sound and enjoy a well made fun western/Horror. You never actually know what path this movie will take and she ends you want more. The creatures are truly horrifying and the make up and whole set up of the Tommyknockers are horrorific.

Now let's not forget this is a horror movie and you will not be disappointed with the good ole fashioned splatter effects and even an intestine ripping scene. Great job to Vincent Guastini and his team of magic makers. We have a good ole fashion monster movie with great looking creatures.

All this is made even more magical by great music by Scott Glasgow. His score completed this movie.

Another win from The Mahal Empire and totally recommend.

Let's go Camping!
20 November 2022
I'm a lover of Anthologies. When Writer/Director sent me a copy of "Tale From the Creek" I was so excited. The following review is from the tales that unfold.

We start off with a father (Michael Spinelli) and his 2 sons (Milo and Maddox Spinelli) on a Father's Day camp out. As the father rambles they look for the perfect spot to camp out. Turns out this is the set up to tell some stories from the Creek and was written and directed by Michael Spinelli. The kids are now introduced to the 1st story "Bellwoods".

A women (Alexandra Cruz) likes running in the "Bellwoods". A tranquil beautiful Forrest that at first has a calming relaxing effect at first. On her latest run she is being chased. She manages to call her boyfriend (Ryan Esteban)to come help her. Him and his friend (Skinny)rush out to help, but will they get there in time. This was and directed by Ryan Esteban.

Good ole father and his sons return. He now teaches them how to build a campfire. There bonding is not getting any better. But now it's story time.

Time for the "Usher's Son". A lone Usher (Ryan Estaben)in a theatre is haunted by a unseen force. Noises, flashes, and actual physical contact. The actor portraying the usher really gives the fear of being scared. The theatre as the main location really takes advantage of its immense space and is haunting. Some pretty cool lighting FX and the desolation of an empty theatre make this a really creepy entry. This entry was written by Steve Balewicz and Ryan Esteban and directed by Steve Balewicz.

Now back to dad and his campfire stories. While the boys are going to get wood for the fire the next story up.

"Who's to blame" is good ole end of the world fun. 2 (Kii Hornick and Brooks Bailey) guys are holed up in a Storage unit. Trying to stay safe from the virus plaguing the world. They start freaking out being there and decide they maybe better off taking on what's beyond the closed gate. They finally decide it's better than dying without trying. This was written and directed by M. C. Nowell.

The dad teaches his son how to build up the fire. He gives them a lesson on fire. Not only how to start but how to respect. Which leads us to our last story about vampires with legendary Bob Glazier.

"Ultraviolent" opens with Bob Glazier walking the streets at night making them safe. He captures a guy (Steve Balewicz)and holds him captive. He believes this man he has been watching is responsible for his granddaughter and others missing. A interrogation gets the answers he wants but dies it. Brilliantly written by Dustin Hubbard Directed by Kii Hornick .

Back to Dad and his sons by the campfire. All is not what it appears to be and a really good twist is revealed.

The writers and individual filmmakers responsible for this movie made this a really fun entry in an Anthology movie. The set up with the father and sons on a camping trip is original and well done. You can feel tension building in there relationship and as the movie progresses a sense of abnormality develops.

Each story is not overdone and has cool shock endings that don't necessarily resolve the problem but further gets you thinking and bringing to the table your own thoughts on what just transpired in each story.

I loved the music, editing, stories, acting and how each story came together. You had 4 stories all very different but done in the same style cast compliment each other. I love Bob Glazier and thought I would be partial to his story. But yea it was strong and well done but hell they all were.

I was satisfied and really enjoy the set up and as a movie in whole works. I'm hoping a sequel is made. Was a fun watch and highly recommended it.
