The Greatest Movie Ever Made
8 June 2000
The film version of the great American novel. The movie is a wonderful complement to the Margaret Mitchell's epic. See one and read the other. You'll appreciate each all the more. The book contains a wealth of detail obviously not included in the movie, and the film portrays the sweeping grandeur of the world of Scarlett and Rhett.

An Unexpected Team
6 February 2000
Jane Powell (as Ellen Bowen) was a surprisingly adept partner for Fred Astaire for those of us who know her best as a brilliant soprano songstress. She kept up with him, step for step. She's probably best known for her fabulous voice as showcased in SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS, but she brought in the wonderful tune, "Too Late Now," here in ROYAL WEDDING. Astaire was his typical debonair self, and his role is reminiscent of that in THREE LITTLE WORDS.

The plot of ROYAL WEDDING is easy to follow and serves as a great backdrop for Astaire and Powell and their respective musical talents. And yes, Sarah Churchill is Winston's daughter. Worth seeing more than once.

A Classic
6 February 2000
One of the best of Hollywood's Golden Age of musicals. THREE LITTLE WORDS records the rocky but touching relationship between Burt Kalmar and Harry Ruby, famed song-writing team who began their partnership in the 20's. You'll love their songs as performed by Fred Astaire, Vera-Ellen, Red Skelton, and Arlene Dahl. And of course, the dancing is all you would expect from a duo like Astaire and Vera-Ellen. Wonderful entertainment for the whole family.
