Assassins (1995)
Why does this film remind me of "8 Million Ways to Die"?
Just saw this for the first time yesterday. Film is generally awful (make that AWWWWFUL!) Only redeeming grace is Antonio Banderas. What a pro! What charisma! Compare this film with "8 Million Ways to Die," very similar situation, wooden Anglo hero (Jeff Bridges in that film) and extremely charismatic villain (Hispanic Andy Garcia).
In fact, this latter film is better than "Assassins," because it has in addition the terrific Rosanna Arquette. Word is what sank "8 Million Ways" (which could've been a great film) was overuse of the powder "C" during principal photography. Exactly what "Assassins" needed more of.
Warriors of Virtue (1997)
It sucked then, still sucks now
I first saw this movie many years ago. It thoroughly bored me, as starting about 25 minutes into it, I could predict what would happen at almost every turn.
Well, I read a few of the favorable reviews of this movie here at imdb and decided to give it another chance. Would it be better second time around?
Nope. Stopped watching about 40 minutes into it and tuned in Pokemon instead.
Rating: 4 out of 10.
In Like Flint (1967)
In like pizza
This second installment in the Derek Flint spy spoofs is not as good as its prequel, being much looser than that, but like pizza, even when it's not as good as the legendary Pizza Malabon, it's still pretty good!
Our Man Flint (1966)
Best of the spy spoofs
The two Flint movies were the best of the numerous spy spoofs to come out in the 1960s in response to the Bond films. They are like the Austin Powers films, but funny.
O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
Vastly Overrated
This film does not do the Brothers Coen justice. The humor is strained, the writing often predictable, and it almost seems like the actors are just going through their paces. The fact that it is constantly being "fixed" (tinkering with it, compressing it, etc.) before American release just goes to show that the distributors realize this, too. The best thing about this film is the music. Suggestion: wait for it to come out on DVD or video.
