Strike a Pose
10 May 2006
This is Madonna at her best while during the prime of her music career. Although the film was released in 1991, Truth or Dare actually takes place during the summer of 1990, as Madonna went around the globe on her Blonde Ambition tour. This documentary / music film is a piece of history of not only of Madonna back in the day but what the styles and sounds of the year where like. Boy does it bring back memories! From spandex biker shorts, to that famous cone bra, and not to forget the hairstyles... its really great to watch and think back of what life was like when "Vogue" was her biggest hit to date. She is so revealing, funny, demanding, and warm at heart. It shows the no nonsense business side of her and the sad reflective side of her as she thinks about her mother who died when she was so very young. The film is packed with celebrities, including Warren Beatty, whom she dated while filming his blockbuster film, Dick Tracy. It shows the lives of her dancers, backup singers, and the crew behind the stage as they all mingle around her and do their best for camera time. LOL But in the end, there is no brighter star than Madonna. To this day she is still pushing buttons, creating great music, and daring us all to watch. And just like this film, I think its safe to say she accomplished what she set out to do.

Set sail for adventure with Kermit & the Gang!
16 February 2006
This has to be one of my favorite films from the Muppets! It brings back the charm the original movies had and goes to show that Kermit and his friends still have that magical touch. I think Jim Henson would have been proud of this movie because of its simple but hysterical tone. Many of my friends today still use many of the funny one liners and jokes from it. And how could you not love the new characters such as Clueless Morgan and Polly Lobster?? Or what about Tim Curry's fantastic role as Long John Silver? But we all know that the true star of the show is Miss Piggy, or at least that's what Kermit wants her to believe! In short, its a perfect movie for any kid (or kid at heart) that loves action, comedy, romance, and the Muppets.

Xanadu (1980)

Kissed by a Muse
8 August 2005
Out of all the movies that I loved from my childhood, none of them entranced me more as Xanadu starring Olivia Newton-John. I was four when it was released in theaters and being that age, music and visuals are a really big thing to a kid. That is something that Xanadu definitely had! Even if the music and special effects are out of date now, the style of the film is truly inspiring. I wont waste my time with the Xanadu haters.... But the people that love the film know what I'm talking about. Yes, it's not Oscar worthy material but who cares? There is an entire generation of fans that love it for its simplistic magical wonder. The soundtrack is one that I've always rocked out too... I've owned it on record, tape, CD, and even 8-track!! You cant go wrong with the talent of ONJ or the creative ethereal sounds of the Electric Light Orchestra. The film has entertained me now for 25 years and it will for the rest of my life. It's movies like this that bring back great memories and take you back to a time when innocence wasn't such a bad thing. XANADU FOREVER!

Turtle Power!!
30 March 2005
For those of us who remember the "Turtle Mania" of the early 90's, this film is definitely a classic! It's hard to believe the movie is 15 years old this year! With lovable characters, great comic writing, and awesome fighting sequences, this film is perfect for any fan or comic book lover of any age. Personally I love the film for the amazing job that Jim Henson's Creature Shop did on creating the realistic look of the Turtles. This was one of Jim Henson's final projects before he passed away and a true testament to the hard work and perfection that he took in all of his creative endeavors. Leonardo, Raphael, Michaelangelo, and Dontatello come to life in such an amazing way thru the use of puppetry. You really feel as if they actually exist! For music lovers, the soundtrack is full of classic early 90's Dance artists from MC Hammer to Partners in Kryme. When you watch this film, its like 1990 all over again. Not many movies make you feel as nostalgic as this one and those kind of movies are the ones you like the best. A time when things were much simpler and happier. So rock on with the Turtles... You cant beat a better film for all ages to enjoy! Cowabunga Dudes!!

Catwoman (2004)

The Cat without the Bat
26 July 2004
So I went to see Catwoman on opening night with a friend and was so worried that we were about to walk into an empty theater. After all, everyone has pretty much dissed the movie without even seeing it. Havent we learned that trailers dont always tell us everything?? Well much to my surprise the theater was packed! All ages in fact! I was so excited to see there were others like me who were just as thrilled to finally see Catwoman on the screen! I really enjoy the movie a lot. Dont get me wrong, its no Batman but I thought it was a great new take on a classic DC comics character. I do have to admit that it did have a slow start and there's way to many CG effects through out the film. But other than that, Halle Berry did an awesome job as did Sharon Stone playing her nemesis. I dont know if this film will produce any sequels but even if it doesnt, I still think its a great film that should be looked at with more of an open mind. Even if you dont like it.... at least you can admit Halle looks great in leather! Overall, this is a fun and fast paced popcorn flick that leaves you wishing you could see more of her adventures...hopefully we will!!!

Jurassic Park (1993)

What's Behind There...King Kong?
11 June 2003
Jurassic Park is one of those movies that makes your jaw drop. I remember the first time I saw it, the theater was sold out and my friends and I had to sit on the front row. Talk about a mind blowing experiance! It was like a 3-D movie! We must have jumped several times being that close to the screen but it was awesome! This classic, directed by Stephen Spielberg, is one of his all time greatest films. The cast is fantastic especially the soundtrack by John Williams. The score is beautiful and haunting all in one and many times it has given me goosebumps usually when we see the dinosaurs for the first time. The special effects are outstanding! The dinosaurs look and sound so life-like you actually wish such a place would exist! Jeff Goldblum's character, Ian Malcolm, is the scene stealer! There is no question in my mind why he is the star of the sequel. If your looking for a film that is humorous, creative, thought provoking, and a little scary at times...this film is for you.

Batman (1989)

"Is there a six-foot bat in Gotham City?"
23 June 2002
Before the bird-like man of the sewer and his sexy feline accomplice. Before the man of riddles and the schizophrenic District Attorney. And even before the man of ice and the woman with the poison kiss, came the most dangerous of Batman's enemies...The Joker. This is the one that started them all. This 1989 smash, directed by Tim Burton, is one of the greatest action adventure movies to have been made. Michael Keaton plays the Caped Crusader who is attempting to save Gotham City from Jack Nicholson's Clown Prince of Crime. Kim Basinger makes an appearance as Vicky Vale, photographer and Batman's alter ego Bruce Wayne's girlfriend. With a great soundtrack by Danny Elfman, awesome music by Prince, plus incredible sets and special effects make this Academy Award winning film enjoyable from beginning to end.

The Dark Knight Returns
19 June 2002
Out of all the Bat-films, Batman Returns is my favorite. This beautiful, dark, and funny film is one of Tim Burton's best work. Although it is much violent and darker, this is the Batman that creator Bob Kane envisioned many years ago. Michael Keaton reprises his role as the avenger of Gotham City. This time he's up against two deadly foes, Danny Devito's Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman. With a great cast and film score by Danny Elfman, the movie takes us on an adventure as Batman battles the evil forces that are trying to take over Gotham City. Christopher Walken makes a great appearance as Max Shrek, a shrewd businessman who has an evil scheme up his sleeve. But of course, Michelle Pfeiffer is the one that steals the show. With all of these components, you have a film that will blow you away. This is the reason why you go to the movies. It's got everything. It's really a shame that Tim Burton didn't get to direct the other sequels. If so I think the franchise would still be going strong today. Batman Returns is an awesome experience for fans that like cool movies.

Dick Tracy (1990)

A town this tough needs a cop this tough.
15 June 2002
Dick Tracy is one of my all time favorite films. I must admit to those that haven't seen it. You will either really love it or really hate it. It came out a year after the success of Batman. So everyone's expectations were so high that many were let down simply because the plot is so simple. But its based on a comic strip...what did you expect? Creatively, this movie is amazing! The sets, make-up, music, costumes, and the impressive acting make this film fantastic. The film has bloodless violence and no bad language - that's something rare these days. Directed, produced, and stars Warren Beatty as the ace crime fighter going up against Al Pacino's evil Big Boy Caprice and his mob of thugs. Madonna steals the show as the seductive Breathless Mahoney. This is one of the best characters Madonna has ever played. She has the best one liners I've heard! Madonna fans would love it! One of the coolest things about the film is that they only used seven colors to make it look like a comic strip. This film is truly a piece of artwork that is sadly overlooked by the public. To sum things up, this film brings out the child in all of us. It's a film that will leave you smiling at the end.
