Trinity Blood (2005)
Anime Misunderstood
The level of perfection Trinity Blood evokes can only be described as breathless. I have watched many different anime and this show has reached a pinnacle of beauty which I have not seen in others. It is much like a moving painting, so rich with color and vibrancy, and the seamless integration of both CGI and single-cell animation makes it a technological tour worth taking.
What fascinates me the most by Japanese animation is the reoccurring motif of machine vs. human and spirituality vs. society. Both of these conflicts are seriously considered in Trinity Blood without the actual plot and characters being bogged down. Also, one must consider the various aesthetic differences between U.S. culture and Japan. I don't think finality is considered an important aspect for completion in Japanese culture. The story must go on, and nothing really ends. (Although it appears the author of the manga died before the completion of the story, which explains why their is a wanting for more closure.)
I personally don't like to be patronized when I watch a film. There is something much more mysterious and fascinating to be able to watch the characters develop without a whole lot of unnecessary exposition. I think Trinity Blood deserves repeated viewings in order to truly appreciate the plot it weaves. Even the smallest characters are treated with the utmost importance, and yes, even I want to see more. But is that really a bad thing?
Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
Exceeded Expectations... my kind of comedy.
I personally didn't know what this movie was about before I watched it so it was a pleasant surprise to see Kirsten Dunst as the lead character. The only flaw in this movie is that Denise Richards is just way too old to play a teenage girl... and after playing Christmas Jones on 007, yeah that sure makes sense. But this movie is a refreshing film. Not typical slapstick comedy. Would it be appropriate to call it intelligent comedy. I mean, every scene is full so subtle comedy that one has to have a pretty good understanding of things to get it anyway. If you are sick of all of that middle America "bad taste" comedy then go for this comedy because it is not that boring old standard
Center Stage (2000)
Just plain entertaining!
This movie is actually way more realistic than I thought it would be. A well thought out coming-of-age story. The end isn't mushy or anything, but takes a more unexpected turn. Join Jodi Sawyer as she learns about life, loses her innocence, and gains self respect. Because let us face it, all the drama queen stuff in the movie probably happens in real life. It is a cat fight to get in to a famous ballet school, and it is fun
Psycho III (1986)
It was just as good as the original.
I don't know why people don't like this movie... over its predecessors. I mean, this movie has some very disturbing images of the macabre. I mean, to see someone getting killed in the shower is shocking, but to see someone dig in an ice box containing on of Mrs. Bates victims just plain discusting enough that it is actually impressive. I was left feeling more affected by this film that the original itself. Because this time we got to look into the mind of Anthony Perkins himself, and maybe learn more about or our own inner-self
