Underrated Sequel(Spoilers)
14 May 2003
Warning: Spoilers
This seems to be one of the horror film sequels that seems to get the most bashings...but in my opinion I think it's far far better than any of the Friday the 13th sequels that came after it. Continuing the character of Tommy Jarvis into part 5 made for one of the most interesting horror film characters to come out of the 80's...both intelligent and troubled...I actually cared about him and what he was going through...here's a guy who as a child went over the edge and mutilated Jason with a machete, and now he's spending his life going from institution to institution, and he's still being haunted by the visions of Jason.

The characters inhabiting Tommy's current home were definitely more appealing than most of Friday's sequels...they came off as believably troubled teens, and not the stereotypical 'crazy people' usually portrayed in these types of films. The institution out in the woods made for a great location...especially in the scenes at night during the rain and lightning. I also liked the fact that the filmmakers weren't afraid to try something different...they could have went for the obvious by having Jason coming back(but part 4 was called the Final Chapter, as in the final chapter of Jason), and they could have gone with the most obvious by continuing Tommy right away as the new killer...but instead they let us wonder who the killer was until the end(and isn't that one of the things that made the first Friday the 13th so enjoyable?) And I love the ending...the idea of Tommy being the new killer would have been the perfect continuation of the series. But then part 6 comes along, and it's nothing more than a parody of itself, and Tommy is reduced to a dumb redneck...ugh. And the complaints about part 5 not being good because of Jason not being the killer is silly...Who was the killer in the first Friday the 13th?

Silo Killer (2002 Video)
More comedy than horror.
29 October 2002
But, that's not a bad thing. This movie was actually more funny than scary...and the humor was on purpose. Brian Reid's Lyle was a very funny character. All the actors were quite impressive considering they were all no names, and the budget of this movie. I definitely have to give the original ending some credit...unfortunately most people will probably pass this movie by, since films shot on video seems to be a taboo. But I say give it a chance, I'm far more impressed by this $6000 shot on vid horror film made by a group of buddies, than that big-budget teen-slasher Hollywood slop that keeps getting thrown into out theaters.

Under-rated slasher
12 December 2000
Warning: Spoilers
***MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS***

I remember my sister taking me to see this when it was originally in the theaters when I was 13...it was the first horror film that caused me a sleepless night...and that was all do to the ending. And now as I sit here at 30...just having watched my newly acquired copy of it on DVD....the ending still hits me....in my opinion it's the greatest ending in horror movie history. And everybody made such a big deal about 'The Crying Game' ending....'Sleepaway Camp' had that ending long before 'The Crying Game'came out.

I have no problems with the acting...after all this is a low budget slasher film....if your expecting more...why are you watching these kind of movies? Yes, the actress playing the aunt is a major over-actor....but, to me that just adds to the fact that she is crazy...obviously she is crazy for doing something like that to her nephew.

It's nice seeing kids talk and do things like real kids...it took me back to my childhood summers.

I loved the characters in this movie...Mel the camp owner. Artie the perverted chef. Judy and Meg played excellent bitches...man, they reminded me of my sister's friends back in the old days. And I thought the interactions between Paul and Angela were nice and interesting. I liked the killing scenes....they were creative and fun...especially the scene with Mel getting the arrow through his neck. All the killings were as believable as every other slasher movie made.

Felissa Rose was perfect as Angela....I've never seen anybody stare as good as her. And once and for all...Angela was not afraid of the water. The director himself said this on the DVD's commentary. She didn't want to go in the water when there were people around because there was more of a chance of them finding out her secret.

The music is very well done for this kind of movie...and I love 'Angela's Theme'...it ranks up there with the 'Happy Birthday To Me' theme song.

And this movie may be a rip-off of Friday the 13th....but, remember Friday the 13th ripped-off' Halloween' and 'Halloween' ripped-off 'Black Christmas'...I could go on.....

Hell Night (1981)
Give it a chance
9 July 2000
I love slasher films and this is one of my favorites....it seems one of the biggest complaints about 'Hell Night' is the lack of blood. Am I the only one here who remembers two other horror classics that have little bloodshed....'Halloween' and 'Texas Chain Saw Massacre' and before you disagree....watch them again. And notice that all the times that Leatherface smacks heads with the hammer and carves bodies with his chainsaw- very little blood hits the ground.....even 'Prom Night' shows black screen when someone is getting hacked up with an axe... And not all slasher films have to have the 'guess who the killer is' theme....in 'Halloween' we knew it was Michael Meyers and 'Chain Saw Massacre' we knew it was Leatherface and his family.... Back to 'Hell Night'...I thought everybody gave really good performances throughout...Linda Blair and Vincet Van Patten standout the most. I enjoyed the background story about the house's history...the house itself was an excellent setting. Character interaction was interesting...it didn't seem like pointless time filler. The killers were alot more scary than most of the slasher villains...plus the fact that they didn't get a lot of screen time which added to the suspense. A very under-rated slasher film. 'Hell Night' and almost any slasher film post 1979 are called 'Halloween' rip-offs...but, remember 'Black Christmas' came out years before 'Halloween'
