Signs (2002)

Third movie, second disappointment.
21 September 2002
Third movie, second disappointment. Although the 6th Sense was terrific, Signs is terrible. Perhaps, one of the worst alien-story movie. Everything is so crystal clear, you know the end since the beginning, so to speak. Some sequences are funny when they should be scary (the men closing the door not in the good way...), the climax is very disappointing. There some elements of Fincher's "Panic Room", that's rather good but not very revolutionnary... Mel Gibson is very good, though. Culkin too (without him, the movie would be nonsense). But, the a-thousand-time-reheard story doesn't provide new element on the subject. I hope the director's next story won't fail again in trying to play with our inner-fear. At least, he should try doing a romance. I do deeply hope he wasn't the man of one movie.... Too bad. Just as Signs.

Beware the critics, enjoy the difference.

Back to the future ! The three "kings" are seeking for the new Jesus, in 2001... in Paris. This is NOT a common comedy. I mean, one will not laugh loudly all the time. It is full of wit one will enjoy only if one possesses a large vocabulary and culture. It is much more a Christmas tale (but a few people realizes that) than a brainless movie like AmPie - though it's not THE event of the year, it's a fun time very optimistic and enthiousastic.

Another little French movie worth being seen
5 August 2000
"Mon père ce héros" is a quote of Victor Hugo, the most famous French poet of all time. And although the movie is very realistic, kind of true-to-life situation, it is full of poetry. It shows one more time that Love is a big awkward thing for everyone. It is a very nice comedy, rather funny and moving. The movie helps to realize the gap existing between a father and a 14-year-old teenager. All the actors (not only Depardieu And Marie Gillain) are sincere while the main subject is "lies" !! I deeply recommend you to see this film and not its remake - a bit too tasteless (actually the dialogs are exactly the same). However, if you want to spend a good time in front of your telly, I believe Mon père ce Héros to be the perfect choice.

This is THE masterpiece of funniness. Trust me, the big winner trio (Depardieu, Richard and Veber) shows one more time his talent. On one hand Pignon/Richard is the unluckiest man on earth, all the things you don't even think about happen to him and on the other one there is Depardieu, a cartesian private detective who doesn't believe in fate or luck, he disagrees with these concepts. Actually, by meeting Pignon, his entire life will be turned up side down because they must work together to find Pignon's Headmaster's daughter who was kidnapped in Venezuela. The worse thing will happen to the Laurel-and-Hardy-like team. You almost die of laughing so much. This is the comedy one should have seen once, just as "the Gods must be crazy." The movie is really worth being watched.

The plot ? You can read it anywhere. The actors ? No one is known. The screenplay ? No oscars.

So what ?

Bushmen ! Terrorism ! civilisation ! Love ! Coke !

This is a few ingredients for the making of a fantastic cocktail, a movie like this pure priceless moment of comedy. Grown up AND kids will be really pleased with viewing it, no doubt about it !! No sex, no violence (okay, there are a few killed people) but a lot of FUN.....
