The Ring (2002)
All in all not bad, but...
Having just seen "The Ring," I will say it definitely was creepy. Lots of nice, disturbing visuals accompanied by a shrill noises and sudden bursts of sound...Only problem was after leaving the theater I knew I'd been cheated. All throughout the film there is an impending sense that we're obviously being led somewhere, hopefully to the mystery behind the tape on which the story revolves around. Unfortunately, it seems the film makers have taken the easy route and left out any explanation whatsoever for anything that occurs in the film. My guess is that we're being set up for "The Ring 2." All I know is throughout the climax of the movie all I could think was, "Now, why am I supposed to be scared by this?"
Oh, and I figured out what "The Ring" was the first time we get to see the tape for ourselves...that probably didn't help to heighten the suspense. If you want my opinion, see "Signs" instead...
First Knight (1995)
Ugh...
This film blows, plain and simple. Take, for example, the scene in the forest when Guinevere asks Lancelot where he learned how to make rain pour down a few leaves into her mouth...I thought the people in Leoness were just trying to hide in the church until the movie ended and they could safely come out, but NO! King Arthur forces them out and makes them suffer like everyone else who had to appear on screen. And what was up with the costumers and production designers on this film? Why did EVERYONE and EVERYTHING have to be draped in blue?
Swordfish (2001)
Ugghhh...
All I'm gonna say is maybe one day Hollywood will realize that loud music, break-neck editing and a ton of useless extreme close-ups do NOT necessarily a good movie make. This one wasn't as bad as some, but it certainly won't be winning Best Picture this year...unless it makes enough money, of course. 5 out of 10.
Eddie Izzard: Dress to Kill (1998)
Perhaps one of the best stand-up performances ever...
I find myself comparing all stand-up acts to this one performance now. Even older recorded performances I once thought were funny just don't seem as funny after seeing Eddie Izzard in this award-winning look at history, language disparities, and Englebert Humperdink...
