Island of the Dead (2000)
Not Very Good
I'm the biggest fan of bad horror/thrillers you'll ever find and this one left me with a ho-hum feeling. Although it did have some interesting comic relief, the killer swarm of mutant flies really wasn't that exciting because it didn't kill indiscriminantly. That makes the premise of the movie, "let's outsmart the killer flies," pretty silly. Malcolm Macdowell appears as your typical Donald Trump-like tycoon, there is a pretty missing persons detective and a band of likable convicts (one of which was wrongly imprisoned...of course). Overall, there aren't too many thrills in this thriller.

Preposterously Bad...and Entertaining!
This movie is so atrocious that it's actually entertaining. Did anyone else notice that the car only turns left when the unsuspecting college students are on their way to the burial ground? That someone decided to use the "scary" music the whole time, even in scenes that aren't suspenseful (such as when they're driving and making only left turns)? That the film goes from day to night to dusk back to night again in the span of one scene? (Counting how many times the time of day actually changed, those kids should have been camping for 2 weeks). That the spirit in the fire is obviously a rubber hand puppet? Who knows why movies like this get made and who cares. All I know is that movies this bad are a rare treat.
